First off, let me just say I appreciated this game let you choose to play as either a male or a female protagonist. As a female gamer, I feel like I can connect more with female characters. Most game developers just do the numbers and figure "eh gamers are statistically more likely to be men" and forget there's an entire demographic that would enjoy games more if they felt they were being represented. Things I loved: 1) Synthesis was a favorite feature of this game. As soon as I got the manual I looked over the possible designs, and then saw what I needed to make a better accessory in a shop in the first town, and was super impressed with the stat improvement. It really made me want to try more synthesis. 2) There were a lot of rewards for exploring like Ethereal Fruit or cool items. It can be disappointing to put in the effort to visit every section of the map but don't see the fruit of your labor (pun fully intended). 3) There was a subtly in the story. Finding mini quests like the Doomed Girl where you have to hypothesize what really happened made me feel much more involved. HINT: be sure to read the gravestones in the Blind Forest carefully. 4) Kylar didn't have much of a story but his powers are awesome. I like that he uses daggers as it seems most summoners are stuck with staves all the time. Most impressive though is that his summon's status inflicting abilities ACTUALLY WORK. It's not at all like playing FF7 and ignoring the status inflicting spells because the only enemies they work against are weak anyway. I was actually able to use his skills against the final bosses. 4) The ending was not what I was predicting which I appreciated. There is nothing I hate more than experiencing a story (game/movie/book whatever) that I can completely see coming. I'm really excited to find out what happened to Lionforge's family like maybe in an update or something. 5) My absolute favorite thing about this game was the humor. There were some dark undertones the game (cough Doomed Girl cough) but the moments of levity really balanced it out. Plus, there were quite a few references I picked up which just made the bits of humor even funnier. Things I would like to see: 1) I was a little disappointed Raegon just left your party and wouldn't come back. I wish that he could be convinced to return like if you did another quest for his owner. Raegon isn't talented as a fighter (c'mon how can you expect a cat to be?) but he is an impressive healer. I liked keeping him as a white mage to keep my fighters healthy. 2) The vines leading up to the houses in the bunny town were a little hard to see. When you play this game pay close attention for them because Doomed Girl is found in them. 3) I don't know if its possible with this gaming engine but I would like to be able to do some form of character creation with Lionforge. I mentioned how being able to play as a female protagonist allows me to connect with the character. Being able to make the character look a bit like me helps me really experience the story. 4) I wanted to battle Thornheart into the ground. It was nice seeing another side to Jaguar's character but maybe he could join the battle on my side temporarily instead. All in all this was a fun game which I would totally recommend, and I'm psyched to see what else Disbanded Crow will create!
This is really quite well done. The graphics are excellent, and the scripting is as well. It's easy to play, and keeps the player engaged. I can't wait to play through to the end!
The game is pretty average, not terrible or anything but not the best either. Overall, a good experience though. I really liked the crafting system.
