Do you know what makes a game innovative nowadays? The courage to refuse current trends and to propose again good old themes. From this point of view, this game is certainly innovative. Here we find again in all its eerie and mysterious atmosphere the good old theme of alien abduction. We see again, after a long, long, too long time, skinny and bobble-headed green men, floating edgy drones, and of course round UFOs full of neon lights. Old school sci-fi, literally! And above all, we find again the eerie and mysterious atmosphere I talked about previously, that awesome atmosphere that made classic sci-fi movies so great and unforgettable. The aliens are silent, they look at you without saying a single world, without moving, even without blinking (mostly!), and you can do nothing but shiver in fear, wondering what incomprehensible and inhuman thoughts dwell in those giant brains of theirs! But what do you do in this game, actually? OVNI Abduction is mainly a walking simulator, with occasional puzzles, platforming and even shooting. The puzzles are all very simple, as well as platforming, and the shooting system is pretty well made, with the possibility to try two different weapons. The game can be divided in two distinct and very different parts. The first part is a true horror experience, with no real threats, but well placed jumpscares and a truly creepy atmosphere full of tension and anxiety. The second part is more focused on action, with the possibility to explore a pretty large open world, and above all the possibility to defend yourself with weapons. In this large setting, what you have to do is to accomplish various tasks while fending off attacking foes. Shooting is fun, but you have no vehicles, so when you have to move to another location, which may be pretty far away, you have to do it by, you know, running like crazy! That was the only tedious and frustrating feature of this game, in my opinion. There ARE effectively some vehicles on the place, so why can't we use them? However, I must say that during some of these trips... something will happen. So the monotony of all this running is effectively interrupted every now and then. So, overall, I liked this game veeery much, I found it very interesting, and I certainly recommend it to all grown up men who, as children, were literally delighted by movies like Alien, Contact, or 2001 Space Odissey.
