Nock & Load

A pretty nifty free archery game I played for almost 90 minutes before, after a really good run, I felt like I'd seen all of what it has to offer. That's pretty great value for (no) money, I'd say. The controls are tricky, and I never really felt like Robin Hood, even the cartoon fox version. But I got into a groove with the upgrades, recruiting additional bowmen for my little band, and outfitting them all with split-arrow upgrades to rain pointy sticks on my foes. They did the heavy lifting in the bird-hunting sequence between battles. This kept the gold rolling in for more upgrades. And allowed me to overwhelm enemy archers for a while with volume of fire. The only knocks (heh) against it, and these are debatable, are the randomness of the upgrades making it possible to largely miss out on recruiting more bowmen, the apparently poor value for gold in taking hunting accuracy upgrades (which are per-archer, unlike base health and base damage increases in battle), and the way the reroll mechanic works. Where the player is offered an upgrade that gives only a (low) percent chance to be able to re-roll each selection of upgrades going forward. Well worth checking out, though. Just hang in there, if you're off to a rough start. Or maybe restart and try to get on a roll.
