Nock: Hidden Arrow is a stealth archery dungeon crawl full of sneaking, shooting, throwing, and the occasional surprise bout of frantic combat. No potions, xp, hit point management, or penny pinching for gear upgrades. The focus is on action, feel, and theme.

I think that the motion controllers on the Vive are perfectly suited for 'Bow and Arrow' games and while there are a wealth of them, this is one of the better ones, even in early access. The game still needs some variety but what is there is quite solid... AI not too smart but still they make sure you have to get that shot right or you'll pay for it. The teleport locomotion feels spot on, maybe you can spam it a little too much when running away but otherwise very good. Well worth the money, hopefully it gets more enemy types and some hallway eye candy!
Played this on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers, no issues
I just can't recommend this game at this stage. Just FYI, I only played the game 20 minutes, but I didn't see enough difference to keep playing the game. I am asking for a refund. So why didn't I want to continue playing? Let me talk about the positives first. The core game mechanics are very good. Shooting an arrow with your bow feels great. You can shoot right or left handed. Things are very responsive unless you are trying to grab an arrow on the run and shoot one off. Where you hit an enemy matters. You can easily hit them where they have armor and it will have no effect on the enemy. Likewise, a well-placed headshot on an enemy will usually mean instant death, depending on the enemy. The locomotion options are great, although no turning sucks as usual, especially on the Oculus Rift. The use of light and shadow is awesome. This game definitely gets the feel of stealthily walking down corridors and sneaking up on enemies. I even found the distraction ball to be fun to use, even if it wasn't always the best (why not a stone or a firework?). With all the positives above, why would I not want to spend $5? Well, it comes down to content. There's not really enough here to justify the normal price of $9.99 or even the sale price of $4.99. There's no story here. There's a single player campaign mode, but it's just some text written on a wall with a pre-determined level. That wouldn't be so bad if every level looked almost identical. You're always walking around these same looking corridors. The design might be different, but you can't ever tell them apart because you're always looking at these ugly, greyish-brown walls with torches in certain spots and levers in some corridors to open doors. The wave shooter option is awful. There's also only three enemies. One melee goblin, one ranged goblin (bow and arrow nemesis and the most fun to go against), and 1 giant melee orc. After 15 minutes in this game, you've basically done everything. It's just more levels of the same stuff that looks the same and acts the same, just more of it. Enemies don't get smarter, you just get more of them, thus increasing the difficulty. Is the game fun? Yes for 10-15 minutes. After that it is just too repetitive. There's nothing to pull you forward to continue. No story. No new mechanics. No new enemies. I'm honestly surprised at the positive reviews. Yes, there are some REALLY GOOD things about this game. But you can't hide the lack of content. I know it's early acess, but it's more like a demo than anything else. Maybe in the future, my recommendation will change: if better environments/ level design is introduced, if more enemies are added, if more mechanics are added other than finding the teleporter at the end of the level or pressing a lever to open a door or distracting with a magic ball, then maybe this game will be more than worth it's normal price. But right now, today, February 18, 2018, it is not worth much. This has $2.99 content currently. It should be a demo while it's being worked on, not EA. No update since July. No ETA on the next update. It's not dead, but do you want to spend $4.99 on a promise of a future better game that may never happen? Rating 4.5/10 Great core gameplay, but not enough content to justify it's price tag, it's a game to keep an eye on if it ever leaves Early Access
I've been waiting for this game to get an update, because I was excited for a VR dungeon crawl with archery mechanics, but it seems like it has been abandoned with the bare bones of both those categories... At least there are several movement options, and the archery mechanic feels good, but that's all the positives I can think of. The dungeon is just rectangular connections and the enemies zigzag to rush you (even the huge minotaur ones) which doesn't fit with what mass they should have. Even when firing directly where an enemy is running, after you release your arrow they can course correct and dodge it which is fine for a small goblin but an ogre shouldn't have that dexterity. When playing stealthily and using the decoys it is super satisfying to land a sneak headshot because there is no aim assist or path tracing, but once you miss here we go time for QCQ trying to fling as many arrows as possible. There is no snap turning so when you get surrounded you have to physically spin around while flailing to draw arrows which there is a good chance of them dodging even at point blank. The campaign says "more levels coming soon!" of course... Skyrim VR is a much MUCH better version of exactly what this was trying to go for, but that game has so much more as well, so don't waste your time on this.
A.I. pathing and animations need serious work. They weave nonsensically like a derailed train. It looks and feels awful. You get 1 stealth shot, then maybe 1 more before they reach you, which will inevitibly land in the tiny circle of armor they have. It's a better and more consistent strategy to wait until they walk up to you, full stop, and get ready to swing. Guaranteed headshot. While effective, this is incredibly dull, but it's infinitely better than taking shots at range. Decoys are a neat concept but should have just been built into arrows, preventing the need for over-the-head reloading, which is clunky and not guaranteed to work. Arrows should just always be in hand, functioning as a torch. This would let you make more dynamic lighting. Visually nice. I love that the decoys and arrows give off light. The sounds are very thematic, but the footsteps need to fade and be quieter the further away the monster are (if this is already in place, it needs to be heavily cranked up). I keep thinking things are behind me when they're in front of me further into the level. Overall, this level of polish is something I'd expect from a free game. Worth a playthough if you can catch it on sale. The dramatic elements are spot on, for the most part. The formal elements need some help.
Im Ansatz zwar eine gute Idee mit Geräuschen und schleichen, aber nach spätestens 30min wird das langweilig, was an der mangelnden Umgebungs- und Gegnervielfalt liegt. Alles sehr eintönig designed. Nock: Hidden Arrow, a dungeon crawler where all you have are decoy balls of light and glowing arrows. It's kind of fun, but so far I've only seen the same modular rooms for over an hour and 4 enemy types. Still It's well put together and is actively being updated. Definitely an indie title, picked it up in a bundle of low budget VR games. I'd pay $2-3 for it as it currently stands, not sure if it's worth $10, but lucky me I paid $4 for a pack of these things, so this cost me like $0.50. I'm suspecting heavy asset store use, I think I recognize the characters from Dexsoft or Protofactor (IE I may own them from YEARS back) that being said I kind of like the high budget 90's made for TV movie feel of the whole thing. The bad guys are really detailed, but their skin has that 90's 3D plastic look to it, quasi Reboot. Oh hey I found their Minotaur. XD https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/19336 And their Orc https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/10185 I guess my biggest complaint is the lack of stage dressing, just lots of completely empty rooms and hall ways. I hate to compare this to Vanishing Realms, but I have to give props where props are due, Vanishing Realms did a great job at stage dressing, which helps you tell exactly where you are in the castle/mazz/whatever. If you find it on sale, buy it, it's fun and I've spent almost an hour in it and I can't say I was ever bored.
Great demo. Awesome potential! Can't wait to see the actual game.presently not worth buying as it is a complete demo.
Cool minimalist stealth dungeon crawler. I paid 1 euro for the key and i don't regret the experience. I have played the whole game content wirelessly on Quest 2 and using the app Vrocker for locomotion. It did work perfectly with some tweakings of the control scheme via Steam Vr menu. At the end i was running (and walking) in place activating Vrocke on the left grip button. The game features roughly: - 3 dungeons - 4 intelligent enemies: 2 kind of Goblins, one of them attacking from the distance, Ogres and Minotaurs. - Bow and arrow - Throwing globes for illumination and baiting the enemies The game is basic but polished and definitaly had its moments, I will especially remember running away in corridors, by running phisically in place via VRocker, looking back and seeing all the mobs running after me, including 3 meter tall Ogres. Then stop, suddenly turn around and plant an arrow right in the their forehead.
I love stealth games most of all, and I think this might be the only VR-game on Steam to date that includes an actual, good fun stealth experience. Even besides that, this is easily my second favorite game so far. The trolls are so real standing in front of you you feel like you could touch them (or tthey you!!!) and the Big One already made me scream several times when suddenly standing right in front of me. The feeling of sneaking through those creepy corridors builds great tension, the bow and arrow physics feel damn near perfect, this game is great fun. If you love some stealth action and you have VR you are stupid not to buy Nock: Hidden Arrow.
