Reviews
I'm just starting the game, but leaving a positive review to share the reasons I bought this game over other indies at a similar price point: The narrative is well-written, and the voice acting is also good Game style and puzzles are variable, and typically intuitive for most puzzles I've encountered so far.* 21:9 resolutions are supported *I did have an issue discovering what inputs I needed to use for my first deduction. It was a slight hiccup in otherwise fun and intuitive gameplay.
Well, that was an interesting first case of this comedic, perhaps even slightly absurd, noir detective game. And the teaser of the hare with the awesome hair does make me look forward to the second case. But there were also a few things I wasn’t the biggest fan of, making it a bit of a mixed bag for me, though it still leaned towards a positive feeling. To start off with the positive, the good, the fun part: It’s charming as heck, playful, and it has so much bad humour, and if someone likes bad humour, it’s me! I can cackle over the most stupid of stupid puns. Although I must admit, this probably isn’t going to be for just everyone. Throughout the story, despite being well, “who killed the chicken” (though thinks he’s a rooster, but yeah, ok) stayed light-hearted. In the way of cozy but silly vibes. And don’t even get me started on the amazing artwork. I think I read somewhere it was all hand-drawn, and wow. Top-notch! The voice acting is truly a chef's kiss as well. Not just a few lines got voiced, no, no. The whole thing. Even to the point where I was at a location and could hear some soft yelling in the background (fitting the current scene and setting). A small detail, but one that didn’t go unnoticed for me. So yes, I do feel that a lot of thought, detail and love went into this first case. Buuuuuutttttt, but but but. I also felt a few downsides for me personally. Things I would’ve liked to see differently or improved. And given this is still in EA, it’s the perfect time to drop that feedback right here. *~ This type of constant narration, humour and all might not be for everyone. And it isn’t so clear that you can often skip through it if you wish with the ‘e’ button. Perhaps an info sheet or some explanations here or there could help with that. And I’m not sure whether it was a bug or intentional, but some parts felt unskippable. *~ The minigames are not skippable as far as I’m aware. So, pretty much if you suck at it, you’re well f’d to be honest. While I found it mostly doable, it can still be an issue for some people for certain reasons. *~ The boxing mini game is an achievement. Well, 100% achievements isn’t the most important; it still sucks having to miss out on it because of one mini-game. It also just didn’t feel like it belonged with the others, and I hate that cheevo with a passion. (I’m just not a fan of the boxing game, being an azerty user also wasn’t a help. See point below.) *~ The whole world only runs on qwerty, apparently. *cries in azerty* There’s probably or potentially other keyboard layouts crying along. Overall, the controls just felt weird to me. I could use my mouse sometimes, but not always, and running with shift wasn’t a fan of my little, too-short pink finger. With no toggle option to permanent run, pressing shift to walk in case it is needed in certain *no spoiler* moments. While I managed to get through as-is, I’m still kind of hoping for controller support in the future. Not only is it more universal, but as the true potato bag I am, it would feel more comfy to just lean back and enjoy the game instead of the keyboard, sometimes mouse, struggle. *~ A fox is about 1.5x faster than a squirrel that relies on pretty much acrobatics, which wasn’t an option in the setting, but.., and yet the chase felt pretty unforgiving. When he clipped through a wall to catch me, it was the cherry on the cake. For that one time, I was so well ahead. *~ I never got my promised dinner date with the one gating the gate… What, it’s valid feedback. Don’t judge me. I promised! And I low-key was kinda looking forward to what that dialogue would be, though I don’t think anything good could come of it. Lol. Oh deary dear. And I think, if I haven’t forgotten anything, that about sums it up for me. Even though the feedback feels like a lot, which I hope will be helpful in one way or another, I don’t see it as negative per se. Especially since I did leave the game feeling positive, looking forward to that hare with the beautiful hair. I guess overall, how it makes me feel about how much heart went into it outweighs the rough edges for me. And I’ll definitely be lurking for updates, and the next case. So, for me, a thumbs-up it is. And seeing the demo is still active, nothing is holding you back from giving it a try for yourself to see if this game is the right fit for your taste if you're in doubt. A lovely charming game that has a lot of soul. The animation, gameplay, story, and design have been masterfully crafted, as seen from their social media pages, and by experiencing the game itself. The best thing about the game are the minigames, they are all unique and you never know what you're going to do next. I look forward to seeing what comes next in the game and what Wise Monkey Entertainment has to offer in the future.
Def recommended to pick up great story and the game gives me undertale with alot more comedy well for now alot easier then undertale fights but i would like to see where this will go in the future, wouldnt mind personally if the minigames get harder in the next cases or a difficulty scale you can choose from. For now this is a 2 - 3h hour game if you just play the story and leave after :D. Only negative i have seen so far are visual issues like layering of sprites which should get fixes, remeber this is still eary access and being worked on actively with progess being shared to the community. Got this as a curator copy and the write-up sounded like a lot of fun, but this is just Not for me I assume it would be fun for people who like old-school point and click adventure games, but the play is too slow for me and the mini-games just not fun. The humor is cute at first, but grates after just a few minutes of play. I was going to try and play longer but having to "fight" with a stain by trying to figure out whether to use soap, water, or a mop command was just too ridiculous. It's not like this is a turn-based RPG and there is any indication of the best action to use (just RNG). The artwork is cute and it's "old school" pixelated which I don't mind. The movement is smooth and the controls easy so far. The highest resolution you can change it to is 2560x1440. I can't really comment on the price point as I didn't play long enough to see if I got my "money's worth." There is a demo, so try it out if you think this might be for you.
This game is just pure awesomeness. The vibe is excellent. The voice action is excellent..er? The jokes are hitting like a jackhammer. It is a pity it is in EA, so I have to wait for a full review, but I wanted to put something out because this game is truly worth it! Was looking forward to this game ever since I heard about it, and being able to play the first case was so much fun!! The minigames were different, refreshing and sometimes even hard for me lol. Voice acting had me in stitches, looking forward to the next cases! Def worth it to support this game
I’ll admit I was skeptical at first, but I was completely won over within the first few minutes. This is honestly one of the funniest and most genuinely enjoyable games I’ve played in a long time. The story is engaging, and the mini games are surprisingly polished and intriguing. I highly recommend buying this game and experiencing it for yourself firsthand before watching a playthrough. It’s worth the surprise! Huge shoutout to Gab Smolders for putting this on my radar.
I absolutely loved the first case of this game. The humor, voice acting, and music were all spot‑on, and the minigames felt fresh and added a lot of charm to the experience. The stone collectibles were a delightful touch too. I’m really excited to see what the next cases bring. If you enjoy detective games and appreciate a good pun, this one is definitely worth playing. That said… the Big Red chase absolutely wiped me out!
