Played the prologue and really liked it! So I bought the game on the Nintendo Switch eShop (it was on sale, too) and played through it in about six and a half hours. It's a nice little point & click adventure game without any pointing or clicking, as it's played solely on keyboard or controller (which was one of the reasons why I decided to buy it on the Switch). If you are into well-pixellated graphic adventure games, such as the releases of Wadjet Eye Games, or the old LucasArts or Sierra games, Nine Witches might be right up your alley. Having a bit of a Thimbleweed Park atmosphere to it, plus the ability of one of the characters to speak to ghosts, similar to the Blackwell games, which I love, I simply needed to play this. All in all, I must say that it was kind of a mixed bag. While I liked the protagonists, the graphics, the whole atmosphere and the story in general, some of the puzzles were needlessly annoying and there was lots of backtracking. That stuff was still okay though... It was the "special blend" of humor that left me... surprised, to say the least. This game was filled with deliberately bad jokes, with an "audience laugh track" after them. Worse though: If you're into... let's call it... "fecal humor", this will be your cup of tea. There are lots and LOTS of fart jokes, jokes about hemorrhoids, people peeing themselves, people loudly going "number two" for extended periods of time, people asking stuff like "Did this sound of me pouring gasoline in the tank make you want to urinate?" out of the blue, someone drinking urine, too... I found this to be waaaaay over the top by the end of the game. It kind of blemished the whole experience in my opinion. There were also plenty of references to games and movies (which were okay) and other fourth wall-breaking jokes, such as the developers stepping into the game and telling the protagonists how they aren't allowed to do something and have to think of a different way around a puzzle. It's all a matter of taste, I guess. Keep in mind that this game is also filled with violence, reckless killing and gore. (It also had shoot-out sequences, which were VERY fun, if you ask me.) In a pixellated game like Nine Witches, it isn't that much of a problem. However, it being mixed in with all of the crude humor, it made for a weird blend. The game went for a supernatural mystery atmosphere, yet cranked the "comic relief" (if you can call it that) up to eleven. I still recommend the game because it was fun to play. Just know what you're getting yourself into.
Recomendado. Impaciente por su salida!
Nine witches: Family disruption is the prologue to a very cheesy adventure game about an eminent professor of the occult and his assistant who are sent to infiltrate an occult research compound during world war 2. The pixel art in the game is beautifully done and the cheesy dialogues lines definitely make us laugh. This demo allows us to play the first 30 minutes of the full game, and the game uses keyboard controls only (WASD for movements, and arrow keys for inventory and item interaction/ability use). We can control both characters, one at a time. And each character has its own abilities. The professor can talk to ghosts or use some objects/bodies detection aura, but cannot walk and is too weak to carry anything. The assistant has a gun and can pick up/carry anything. The demo has one shooting sequence that is played similarly to an arcade space shooter. I hope the full game has few, because I really am not a big fan of those. In all, it looks like an interesting game, and the art is definitely my favorite, but the action aspect not so much...
This Prologue was super fun and very promising! Can't wait for the full game. The art is just perfect, but, above all, the sense of humor is what makes it unique. Smart writing, full of details, you'll recall the old glories from Lucas Arts :)
Exquisitely written, lo-fi ode to the early 90's. This one came in under the radar and it's exactly the sort of surprise we need.
Welp, crashed after "Press Any Key to Continue". Tried uninstall and reinstall but doesn't seem to work.
