What a great game. Totally underrated. Learning curve is dialed in and spot on, found it just punishing enough to challenge me. While the combat is it's strength, the 'puzzles' (if you can call them that) exploration and platforming are pretty good too. This game has by far the most unique and interesting boss fights in any game I've played. Hitting a clutch parry combo on the final boss is like crack for my brain. The only aspects I disliked was that some achievements are missable, and that some screens have a bit of enemy spam. The boss fight to leave the prison was probably the most difficult curve because it felt overly punishing due to the RNG with the boss spawning too many enemies at once. The story was also amazing, I love how it fed you bits of the story at a time, and the twists were amazing. Finding out that
Cheng is dead and that her messages are just late due to Yi's distance from Penglai is heartbreaking.
The characters are amazing, I loved learning about each of the sols and their backstory. Overall this game is perfect for anyone that enjoyed hollow knight and silksong but is looking for a more combat and story focused game.
Very good game
Good game
A 10/10 GAME IN MY BOOK This game is as if hollow knight and Sekiro had a perfect son.. Gameplay, Music, Art direction, Story-rich, no over-used or under-used mechanics, everything is implemented well, Parry/Deflection is on of the best out there. I can see how invested the team was in this game.
Overall Review: A 2D action masterpiece rooted in Eastern philosophy Story & Visuals: Nine Sols delivers a truly deep and haunting narrative, heavily grounded in East Asian Taoist philosophies mixed with a unique sci-fi "Taopunk" setting. Visually, the game features a 2D hand-drawn art style that seems simple at first glance but is incredibly aesthetically pleasing. The color palettes, environmental designs, and smooth animations create a captivating and atmospheric world. Gameplay & Combat: The combat system is the absolute highlight of this game. The heavy emphasis on high-paced parrying instantly reminds me of Sekiro. However, Nine Sols doesn't just blindly copy; it carves out its own distinct identity. Instead of relying on a traditional Posture meter or Combat Arts, the game shines with its Talisman system, allowing you to build up internal damage. The rhythm of perfectly deflecting attacks and dashing in to detonate a talisman is exceptionally satisfying. The Flaw: My only gripe with the game lies in its early-game exploration. Before you unlock the ability to fast travel freely between resting nodes, navigating the map can be a bit of a chore. You will inevitably run into many dead ends or locked paths due to missing abilities. Forcing players to memorize these blocked routes and backtrack on foot wastes quite a bit of time. It would be a massive Quality of Life (QoL) improvement if the developers added automatic map markers for unexplorable dead ends to save time and streamline the experience. Conclusion: Nine Sols is incredibly worth playing, but be warned: it is brutally difficult. This game is not for the faint of heart. However, if you are looking to push your limits and challenge yourself, the pure rush of satisfaction you get from finally conquering its bosses is unparalleled. I highly recommend experiencing this game at least once in your lifetime!
