Nightgate is a very atmospheric and chilled out experience which involves avoiding enemies whilst collecting orbs and solving minimalistic puzzles. It's very engaging thanks to the gorgeous synth soundtrack and the clever use of geometric shapes and 3D effects. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip through the fifty levels that Nightgate had to offer. The game starts off very easily and you are tasked to collect the orbs and move on to the next stage. In your way are various enemies and defences protecting the orbs which get progressively more difficult as you travel through the Nightgate stages. Most enemies are faster than you and most target and engage you, so it is a case of dodging them which gives you a few seconds to collect the orbs until their next sweep. At the same time the defences can kill you too and these usually involve barriers that either spin around or get larger and smaller needing good timing to pass through. More mechanics are added later like speed boosts and areas that slow you down so that you can pass through very fast spinning defences. There are even a few puzzle sections where you have to join orbs together without obstacles breaking the line you have created. These were the most challenging levels I thought. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails?id=3656246231 If you are thinking that it all sounds quite difficult then don't worry because the movement of your ship is very intuitive and feels like you have perfect control over it. There were some levels that looked to be impossible to navigate but then you notice patterns in the defence movements and work out a strategy and it becomes much easier and it feels very satisfying when you escape to the next level. After collecting the orbs, the exit is usually off the grid where there is no danger, but sometimes the exit is within the grid and you have to dodge the enemies and obstacles again to escape. It does bring about some very near misses and edge of your seat stuff and I loved it. There's no braking, boosting, or shooting. It is purely a game where you avoid obstacles and enemies whilst navigating the levels to collect the orbs and move on to the next stage, but it works so well. It's funny how the simplest of ideas, if done well, can result in a very entertaining experience. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails?id=3656120347 Levels are bite sized so when you do die and your progress is reset, there isn't a huge amount to do again and this makes the gameplay very addictive. There's nothing worse than repeating things over and over again, but even though you will die often, it never feels disheartening and you are ready to leap into the action again. The game flows well and looks and sounds gorgeous. It feels like a polished affair. There are five achievements to get but I ended up getting none of these at the conclusion of the game. When I investigated, these achievements are for finding hidden orbs way off the grid denoted by co-ordinates displayed on the screen. You might have trouble finding these but It is nice that after the game you can start from any of the fifty levels, so if you want them you won't have to repeat the game again. The total experience lasts around 3 hours.
🍳Conclusion🍳

I thought Nightgate was a great little game full of a mixture of zen and ambience mixed with pockets of frantic near misses and on your seat gameplay. It's a weird combination but it works really well and proves to be very addictive. I definitely recommend you check this one out if you are looking for something different that offers some challenge but ultimately a relaxing and chilled out experience. I've been playing this game on iOS for years. It's one of the best casual arcade games ever. The soundtrack is on another level and is absolutely amazing, relaxing, wonderful and adds to the atmosphere of the game. This hidden gem is underrated. I wish the developers would change their marketing strategy. The only negative is that the game is short but it' makes sense considering the quality over quantity. I wish the devs(Semidome) would port the rest of the games to Steam.
This game is good, unfortunately the trailer fails to comunicate the gameplay style. The game is a type of avoid-em-up, you don't shoot, you just dodge obstacles, and you need to navigate through the levels collecting items to unlock the next areas. There is a simplified story that encourages you to move forward in the game, and the music fits the gameplay style very well. The game is short, and you can finish it in less than 3 hours - it's not very difficult, although there are a lot of enemies and obstacles, I would even say it's relaxing.
最早是2017年在iPad上玩过免费送的,音乐和视觉风格很惊艳,感觉很像电影《创:战纪》,很喜欢这样的视觉风格,特此来补个票
This is an avoidem style game where you are a dot that dodges the color red. There is a good variety of enemies and obstacles to avoid and a small plot to follow. The achievements you do need to go out of your way for but they aren't too hard to get if you really want them (they are sort of mini easter eggs). For the price, I can't recommend the game as there is only around 2 hours of gameplay if you are decent at the game. But if the game goes on sale for $5 and under and you have the money, its a decent game to play.
Great game, great concept! Awesome synth soundtrack that sounds very Tron like! One of my favorite games ever. So simple yet so beautiful. Loved the camera angles and continuity too. Played wonderfully on my steam deck. Hats off to the developer, not gotten enough recognition for this game!
