So I was watching Wrestlemania, and they said "use the NextVR app to watch the preshow in VR". I very excitedly plugged my Vive in, launch NextVR and hit the Wrestlemania 35 button. 1:30~something video loads. Its Wrestlemania 34. Huh? So I return to the menu, press the Wrestlemania 34 button and the same thing happens. So I turn off my headset and return to the couch only to find that its exclusive to Occulus GO and Gear VR. What the actual F? Why would you release a stream for a niche sporting event on 2 of the handful of headsets with access to this app? Why do you not want more people using your app? The quality of the videos on here are some of the best I have seen, but if you are gonna gate off content behind specific headsets why would I bother keeping this installed?

NextVR - Live Sports and Entertainment in Virtual Reality
Wanted to watch wrestling, could not watch wrestling, uninstalled.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
I had already tried this app on the Oculus Rift and the Oculus Go. To be honest, I wasn't impressed. Everytime I had tried using this app, the streaming quality was bad. I don't know if their severs were just overloaded, but it would seem that not only was the video quality poor, but that the connections would drop out and the videos would stay stuck frozen. I tried it out over a few days with always the same result. However, today on Steam, I tried it out and the streaming quality was much improved. The video quality I would say is good, but not great. It's good enough that it won't distract from your viewing pleasure, but it still doesn't match the quality of the first-party videos from the Amaze VR app. NextVR is going for something different. A lot of their content is sports related, music, or comedy. Unfortunately, a lot of their musical content is behind-the-scenes kind of stuff instead of actual music shows. I would rather see musical shows form lesser / indie artists that are up-and-coming than the behind-the-scenes stuff of known music artists. Some of the sports content is nice, but most of it is just highlights of a sporting event. Probably the best, as far as bringing you into the action, is the NBA basketball where the 180 camera brings you a near the backboard view of the game which, unlike a traditional broadcast TV game, lets you see all the action taking place. The Softbank kickboxing was also well done as you get a ringside view of the fights and it was more than just highlights. The comedy is probably the best thing about NextVR. There are full sets from these comedians. You feel like you're front row in the crowd. Paranormal Evidence is a full show also in VR, but I am not into that kind of show even though it was wonderfully shot for VR. The Russian ballet was also a full featured performance, but they filmed too far from the action. There are live sporting events. I know they have done some live NBA games on NextVR that was heavily promoted on Oculus. I never did catch one because of my bad experience with the streaming quality. I hope that catch one now. If you're on the HTC Vive or WMR, you should download this app here. However, if you're on Oculus, probably the Oculus version is better. Rate 7/10. I hope the streaming quality keeps improving as well as the content. It is free and there is some nice content already available.
Some of the best streaming i have encountered! Teleport yourself to a comedy club in NY for hours, watching comics, from the best seat in the house! Not sure about the people with streaming issues, i stream just fine and i don't have fiber or anything... might be an issue on their ends.
NextVr is a very cool concept. Being able to get up close and personal with all kinds of live events like basketball, soccer, boxing, and even stand-up comedy is awesome, and NextVr with its revolutionary technology gives us a glimpse at the future of VR broadcasting. This application functions as a very basic video streaming site. Much of the content available consists of highlight reels from various teams and sports that range from three to ten minutes in length. There are a few other options that break away from the sports category, like some stand-up comedy, a documentary on a reclusive tribe in New Guinea, a paranormal-themed show, and even a performance by the Moscow ballet. On my HTC Vive, the experience of these different videos was pretty good. The resolution of the majority of the videos on offer is lower than I would like, with part of the problem being the limited resolution of the screens in current headsets. The videos specifically marked as “High Res” are the ones to look out for because the upgrade in resolution, even on a low resolution headset, helped to make things in the distance become clearer. Besides the resolution issue, one of my biggest problems with this app is that for almost all of the videos, the perspective seems off by a considerable bit. By that I mean that everything you see seems too small. People are undeniably smaller in these videos than they are in real life. There are times when this problem can serve to break immersion, especially if someone is standing near you. The only other disappointing thing with this program is that when people or objects get too close to the camera, it is extremely straining on the eyes and you get double vision. Getting close objects in focus has always been a problem in VR, but it is especially problematic and uncomfortable in these videos. In conclusion, I do recommend getting this free program. It’s an engaging look at what to expect in the future, and being able sit in a better seat than anyone in the audience is pretty gosh darn cool. NextVR certainly isn’t perfect, but it’s worth checking out if you have a headset.
