About
NEURO is a narrative first-person shooter in a cyberpunk setting. The action is taking place in the future, in the 4th century of the Space Era, which starts after humans invent a hyperspace engine.
You’re James Gravesen, young and enthusiastic agent of the intergalactic government, which controls all habitable planets in the Galaxy.
Countless billions of human beings are serving this corporate machine willingly. And you were to become one of them, a nameless drone of the Strategic Bureau of Investigations. But then...
By unlucky turn of events, during your first mission you and your partner ran into some serious trouble. You’ve handled things more rough than you should, and now a couple of shadowy, but powerful figures wants to get rid of you.
Now you’re fleeing from your former comrades, and at the same time try to expose a horrible conspiracy, which threatens many lives besides your own. The terrible mess you’re in doesn’t allow you even to take a gulp of fresh air, forcing you to endure one survival test after the other. You’re well-armed and trained, but your main weapon will be your brain. Thought can save, and thought can kill. Keep that in mind!

This game is bad, and this review is to tell here why you should never buy the game. I know, you're thinking to yourself, you have played jank games before and this one isn't anything new. And mostly, you'd be right. But this one is special. Our story starts fairly normally enough. NEURO is a game from a Russian developer in the year 2006, where you have a story about something that don't really matter. Really, it doesn’t matter. You’re Jimmy, going to find some bad guy with your best buddy Craig, but then things don’t go right. This gives us a reason to run around and shoot bad guys. Honestly, I had written a bit about why this game is jank like the weapons, story, movement, skills, and all that. You could probably enjoy that with the other games, but let’s just say they’re in line with other jank Russian games of the time. The real reason why you should never play this game? The load times. Holy hell, those load streams. It’s not just the loads. It’s the saves, too. Say you are playing along, finding this game isn’t as bad as people are saying it was, then you hit save. Then, you wait. A full minute. And you’re like, okay, that’s not too bad. I just won’t save too much. Then, you accidentally die and now it’s time to load. You have to do that again now. It seems pretty normal, but the more you’re playing, you find wondering how you got to this point in your life? I don’t want to be sitting here talking about why my life. I just want to play bad video games. Oh, the game loaded, now I can keep playing and... I just took fall damage and died. Okay, time to load again. The game is more about time management of your saves/loads than anything. Now, the reason why I noticed into this issue and not as many people did? I had the game on hard. Please, I beg you. IF you do buy the game for some reason and play it, despite me telling you to not buy it, please don’t play it in hard. It’s not fun. You’re looking at like 3+ hours of your life just saving and loading. More even, if you’re worse than I am. This review is a rescue for help. It should give you a good idea of how the game plays and what to expect.
Game is utterly busted. Have gotten softlocked at numerous points just for playing a tad too quickly, weapons almost universally suck a*s, quicksaves are broken, and the final level is absolute bullsh*t, infinitely spawning a bunch of damage sponge enemies in armor to spam the game's strongest weapons at you in an extremely open area where progression is unclear. It honestly gives me Hunt Down the Freeman flashbacks. That's besides the fact that tons of areas are copy-pasted throughout the game, making it dull as hell to navigate. Story and voice-acting are funny but not enough to make this a worthwhile experience. Not recommended at all. F*ck Neuro.

I recently played and beat 18 total different russian slavjank shooters. Every single game in the ultimate slavjank bundle i beat, every single game in the orion games shooter bundle i beat. 18 total games. It was fun. they all look pretty and have great gameworld design. but i had the same exact issue in every single one of them. NO WAYPOINTS!!! the developers expect you to know the unknowable. The only game out of 18 different games that had waypoints was metathrone, but they were worthless anyways because they just stayed on the quest giver and never updated for some reason these developers seem to think that hiding the route to progress = masterpiece game we arent going to think you are deep complex game developers just because you block every hallway and door with wooden crates Now i understand why these games have no DRM...just lock/hide every door instead and nobody can play your game at all!!!!
NEURO, developed by Revolt Games and published by Strategy First, is a cyberpunk-themed first-person shooter that transports players into a richly detailed futuristic universe. Set in the 4th century of the Space Era, the game places you in the role of James Gravesen, a psionic agent embroiled in political conspiracies on the planet Sorgo. Rather than focusing solely on fast-paced action, NEURO weaves a narrative dense with intrigue, power struggles, and ethical dilemmas, inviting players to experience not just combat but the complexity of a dystopian world grappling with corruption and upheaval. Gameplay in NEURO blends traditional FPS elements with a unique layer of psychic powers, allowing players to use abilities such as telekinesis, mind control, and enhanced perception. This combination enriches combat encounters and puzzle-solving alike, encouraging creative strategies beyond simply shooting enemies. Players traverse nine diverse environments, ranging from sprawling urban megalopolises bathed in neon lights to dense jungles and high-tech research facilities. Each location is crafted to evoke a distinct atmosphere that reinforces the game’s cyberpunk aesthetic, immersing players fully in its dark, high-tech world. Combat offers a varied arsenal that includes conventional firearms alongside experimental energy weapons. The integration of psionic abilities with these weapons adds tactical depth, requiring players to adapt dynamically and decide when to rely on brute force or subtle manipulation. Enemy AI presents a challenging opponent, demanding attention to positioning, timing, and ability usage. These mechanics foster a sense of tension and engagement, ensuring that encounters rarely feel repetitive or straightforward. Visually, NEURO embraces the classic cyberpunk style with moody color schemes, futuristic cityscapes adorned with neon, and designs that reflect a society teetering on the edge of collapse. While the graphics may feel dated compared to modern standards, they effectively capture the tone and atmosphere the game aims for. Accompanying the visuals is an atmospheric electronic soundtrack that reinforces the mood and supports the immersive experience without becoming intrusive. However, NEURO is not without its flaws. Some technical hiccups, including occasional freezes and performance inconsistencies, can interrupt the flow and detract from the overall enjoyment. The pacing also varies, with certain sections feeling slow or drawn out, which may test the patience of players used to more relentlessly paced shooters. Despite these issues, the game’s narrative depth and innovative mechanics offer enough reward to keep players invested, particularly those who appreciate story-driven titles with a strategic edge. NEURO stands out in the FPS landscape by offering more than just gunplay—it combines story, strategy, and unique powers into a cohesive whole that reflects its cyberpunk roots. Its focus on political intrigue and ethical quandaries enriches the player’s journey, making every choice and combat scenario feel meaningful. Although it may not appeal to every shooter enthusiast, especially those looking for fast-paced, twitch-heavy gameplay, NEURO provides a compelling alternative for players seeking a thoughtful, atmospheric experience set in a futuristic world rife with complexity. In summary, NEURO is a noteworthy and ambitious title that, despite some rough edges, delivers a distinctive cyberpunk adventure. Its blend of psychic abilities, strategic combat, and rich storytelling offers an experience that resonates with fans of narrative-driven shooters and cyberpunk settings alike. For those curious about exploring a game that challenges traditional shooter conventions while immersing them in a dystopian sci-fi universe, NEURO remains a fascinating and worthwhile journey.
