I played neopets when I was a lad so I was very happy to see this on steam, but I think it's more of a middle thumb +Played well on my deck +Graphics look nice and charming -game really tries to get you to sign up for the online thing, after every time you play a game it asks you to sign up lol -asking for a lot for not that many games, also you better like matching puzzles -halloween map/games is not present despite being in the steam description, that was my favorite too I think they can improve it, I would say wait
oof
As someone who's entire childhood was spent playing Neopets, I was very excited for this game release. However, after completing the story mode within about 20 minutes, I was disappointed in what was left to play. Starting off with the attributes that I liked 1) there is a good representation of classic nostalgic mini games, mixed in with games that came a few years later 2) The games seem to run well without many hiccups on my PC and steam deck. With that being said, for a game that came out at a $20 price point - I wouldn't spend more than a dollar or two on this collection. You play through the story mode in just a few minutes, which unlocks the arcade for quick and casual playing of the mini games. The arcade mode (which should be the highlight of the game) has a lot of room for improvement. 1) Most of the minigames have a time limit, and I would like for this type of platform to have a zen mode, or allow the player to chose their time limit for each game. 45 to 60 second limits does not allow for any time for enjoyment. 2) It does not save your scores for each game. Would love to have a personal and or community leader board for each game - otherwise it just feels like you're quick 60 second games are instantly irrelevant. Overall its generally cute and nostalgic - but has A LOT of room for improvement in the arcade mode - which I am genuinely surprised about. It feels like they spent the time to almost get there, but just sent the game out incomplete without thinking about what their target audience (arguably millennials) would want. Lower the price, allow for longer mini game play, let us save our scores.
optimizen bien la weaa po!! algunos errores de repente en los controles, pero está bonito y da justo en la nostalgia uwu me pregunto si aun estará en mi cuenta antigua mi Kougra famélico y mi Lupe muriendo de hambre.
The Story & Gameplay
This collection is wrapped into a narrative of you playing as Nyx, the current website plot's protagonist. For those who are not on the Neopets' website you will not know who this is, which is fine and kind of makes you want to learn who these characters are then, but it will leave you slightly confused (especially as once the web plot is over we are unsure if new players will get to replay or experience the plot and story of Nyx). The story puts you in the role of Nyx who is challenged against two siblings, Aristotle A. Avinroo (AAA) and Abigail Avinroo, to be the best at various different games across the world of Neopia. The siblings are avid gamers and AAA deems himself the games master. They were once the main characters in a yearly event on the Neopets site called Daily Dare where if you, the player, beat their scores, would get rewarded. This is actually fun in concept to me as Daily Dare hasn't been a thing since 2019 and this whole story mode felt a bit nostalgic. The story mode is a series of small dialogue visual novel formatted sequences in between you playing the different arcade games. My only qualms is dialogue is not always the most engaging and the reuse of old art (or well newly touched up art, but in the same pose) is a bit boring. More expressions and unique scene art of you beating these other characters in their games would be nice.
Worth the Price? Yes & Maybe
As a Neopets fan and daily player of the web browser game this collection is very much worth the price. At $25 you get access to over 2 dozen different arcade style games, rebuilt from scratch, and most are as faithful as they possibly could be (Meerca Chase II might be the most different and lacking in some fun easter egg features, but it's still the same old fun). 27 games for less than a dollar a piece, and infinite plays seems reasonable to me especially when you tack on the feature of gaining Neopoints (the currency for the web game) if you connect a Neopass account. If you are someone who doesn't actively play on the Neopets website, have kids, or don't enjoy playing arcade style short games than this collection might not be worth your while. Perhaps wait for a sale before committing. Personally I am more than willing to support a franchise ive been playing for 18yrs. The price is fair for a small team to recreate 27 different arcade games, plus i likely will be playing this games on and off for years as I personally love playing arcade games and more ways to earn Neopoints for the web browser game.
Bugs & Issues
All games have bugs and this one is no different. So far nothing drastic that ruins gameplay, but just minor visual issues have been seen. The whole collection of mini games play great on a Steam Deck and all issues i've encountered so far have been on PC, which I have been relaying in the Discussion forums.
My hopes
- More Mini Games - Added Neopass rewards such as items for the website (nothing exclusive just added things similar to what the Faerie Fragments and Tales of Darcadia mobiles games does or what Daily Dare used to do where you can take on tasks, try to reach a high score and earn items The dev team seems to be releasing devlogs once or twice a month which is great. They also seem to want to include more mini games. I'm not foreign to buggy games, many of the original versions of these games can barely be played on the Neopets website (due to being in Flash and other bugs), so I am all for this collection being a bridge and start to Neopia being taken off site as a bonus feature. This is a totally different dev team from the Neopets website, so those asking for the games on the site to be fixed and remade are barking up the wrong tree. (Big shout out that we got an updated Pyramids game in here. I love that one to death)
Really fun what a dose of nostalgia - lots of fun playing it and have had 0 issues!
So much nostalgia!!!!
很后悔买了这个游戏,游戏很难玩,很不好玩,非常让人失望。给人的感觉是做这款游戏的人从来没玩过游戏
Very bad arcade mode lock behind story mode, just a poor copy of the originals browser game but asking a high prace for it
I love neopets as a kid and an adult. I was so excited for this game. Im enjoying it so far. The only thing im bummed about is I cant log into my Neopass. I keep getting a unknown error message. I dont know if its because im playing on my ROG Ally or becase the game. Its still so new, so ill wait and see if it connects later. **update** I got my Neopass to link and im getting so many neopoints. Due to poor setup, i dont like pulling my laptop out. So i access my neopets on my phone and now i can play the games on my ROG. So im loving this game. ♡
