Review powered by Mamilos Club Group.
Nekuia: ~~~~~~ “Come to me, beautiful little light being”, summoned a stone statue in the middle of a cemetery. . . Who, me? Yes, who do you think I am referring to? You small floating thing beaming with light, of course it’s you! I am in a bit of a predicament; I lost my soul and I need you to help me to find it. Sounds fun, right! Go, little being, through this crypt door and find it for me! Good luck little being, you’ll need it. Nekuia is an action / 2D platformer game were you take control of a blue being who has to travel through four worlds to recover a lost soul. Most of the levels are fairly small but it could take you many attempts to clear each one of them. Expect to die a lot and you will respawn at the start of that particular level. It might bring something out of your inner character that you never thought you had! Each world has a few stages which are longer and harder to finish; these have tombstones in them and every time you pass one your progress will be saved in case you stuff up in the next few seconds (thanks god for that!) And this, my friend, is only playing on the easy difficulty! Venture onto the medium or hard difficulty and your voice will gradually will become louder and louder. . . Nekuia is truly a challenging game. Each world has a boss to defeat and when you do so, you will unlock the new world. Gameplay-wise, the mechanisms of Nekuia are pretty simple. Your being can only jump or double jump. However, if you execute a fluid streak of jumps (without stopping), your being will increase speed and the length of the jump each time you do so, and with good control, you might complete a stage in seconds! It happened to me once or twice. Obstacle like spikes will be laid out all over the levels with gaps between them (small or large) for your little blue being to land safely here and there. Safely, if you take your time and don’t try to set a new time record. Graphically the game looks very good, with well-designed levels, but I find the controls a bit hard to get used to. I think playing with the gamepad is slightly easier to play than with the mouse. Positives: ~~~~~~~ - Nice graphics - Challenging game (Hardcore) - Well-designed levels - Good, simple mechanism - Achievements and trading cards Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - You will find that your voice becomes louder and louder If you like challenging games or are a true hardcore gamer, then this game is for you! 7/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes.
I love it !!! Fast paced game very challenging if you're looking for the perfect run. A must have for hardcore gamers ! ;-)
Nekuia is yet another of literally thousands of console ported 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. And this one is bad. Ok, it's not "indie game" bad, but it's still awful. It's a brawler type platformer with an action focus that's ported from Playstation and X-box (so yeah, why is this console trash here?). This was never AAA, I mean, in 2024, no 2D platformer is. There's a plot about souls and finding the afterlife or whatever, but when the quality of a game is so low, as this is, well, you might as well be asking about the plot for Pac-Man. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. PC gamers will be insulted by the presence of console peasant children's toy controller prompts, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for. Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game. Once more, console peasants have made gaming worse for everyone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Nekuia didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for hitting a high combo level, trivial to get, but less than 11 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 11 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Nekuia has the pathetically optimistic price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Middle Earth - Shadow of War", "Prey" or "Disco Elysium". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
This is an amazing idea! Love the way increase in speed changes the tempo of the music. My only qualm is with the movement mechanic. With no sensitivity option, as of yet, momentum can easily be lost when trying to change direction. I feel that initializing movement with A or something of the like might make it a little smoother. I will def be playing more of this and waiting to see how it grows :3
