Or were you deaf or were you blind when you left your two fine legs behind, Or was it sailing on the sea when you got the cannonball to your knee, I too was young and I was slim and I had a leg for every limb, But now I’ve got no legs at all, they were both shot away by a cannonball.

About

Admiral John Byng who spent his life sailing the seas for the British Navy, died in 1757, by bullets on the deck of HMS Monarch. Admiral Horatio Nelson, carrying on with the utmost duty, fell similarly to a French musket shot in 1805.
Now it is YOUR turn to sail the seas of the Age of Sail.
But it would be wise to approach the subject cautiously: practice, improve your skill and your ship and connections with allies. Then you can commandeer best vessels: crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear lamentations of their women in global chat.

Naval Action is a hardcore, realistic, and beautifully detailed naval combat game immersing players into the experience of the most beautiful period of naval history - when sailing ships ruled the seas.
Age of sail combat is a personal affair with no dirty tricks, corner camping, or hiding in bushes: you see the enemy from 20km and so do they. Just like in boxing you have to get close; and use all your tactical knowledge of wind, your ship to slug it out face to face. Broadside weight matters, but even a smaller vessel can overcome the superior enemy by focusing on the enemy weak spots.
No game has come closer to the replication of the Age of Sail sailing mechanics and combat. Thats why Naval action was named one best releases from early access in 2019 by Valve!
Beautiful ships – We have been painstakingly recreating the beautiful ships of the Age of sail period. Accurate hull models, sail plans, guns, internal upgrades, historical speed trials were used in the creation of vessels. The game features 50+ ships from small cutters to large 100+ gun 1st rates allowing the player to experience every possible role of that era.

Realistic sailing – Advanced wind and physics model provides for realistic portrayal of ship’s performance in the age of sail. Yard angles, ship angle to wind, fittings and ship condition affects speeds and turning rates. Correct tacking, boxhauling, clubhauling and other elements of realistic sailing will help you win battles in most adverse conditions.
Conquest and PVP Activities Fight for the domination of the West Indies, recreated based on 18th Century maps and navigational charts. Build ships, trade, attack enemies of your nation almost everywhere and capture their ships and Open trading outposts in the ports governed by your clan.
Damage model – Every cannonball is tracked in the air and after it hits the target. Leaks, structural damage, torn sails, demasting, raking, fires, explosions and all other hazards that were possible in that era. Damage is positional: hit the gun and you might destroy it. Gunnery crews are placed deck by deck. Shot can pass through the balcony, ricochet of the gun, hit a crew member and then fly out of the gunport splashing into the water. Armor thickness and wood types affect strength of the hull and cannonballs will ricochet from the hulls at extreme angles.
Built for PVP: Absolutely no hackers.
Hacking is a killer of fun in PVP games. From the start we have built the tech around one main goal - complete elimination of hacking from PVP. Naval Action is one of the few games where hacking is made impossible by design. Every battle action is calculated on the servers, even water and wave shapes. Yes - you have heard it right: there is a special server that calculates and replicates waves to all users in battle. When fighting in Naval action you can be sure you are only facing skills and ship fittings.
Gunnery and weapons – Major types of naval artillery are implemented: from long guns to mortars to carronades and obusiers. Fort and land batteries will provide you with support during battles near shores. Mortar vessels can destroy fortifications, though they may require an escort.

Each gun has realistic ballistics and penetration performance based on historical gun charts and admiralty tests. Heel and wind affect the shooting distance and will require a change in tactics.
Thank you, Captains for Attention

I cant wait for Sea Legends
I enjoy the theme and some of the gameplay. The worst part about this game is Devs. I cannot recommend this game in its current state. Hopefully some other studio picks up the age of sail mantle because these devs just wont listen to their community that is *screaming* at them what we all want.

Good game but i cant play anymore bc it broke
Destroyed economy + made ptp
There was a time when Naval Action felt like a true seaman’s dream-an open horizon, a test of skill and resolve. Yet, as the years have passed, the spirit of adventure has given way to the burden of upkeep. The sea remains beautiful, but now it demands payment at every turn. The shift from free waters to paid passage has left many adrift. The cost of entry, compounded by dear-priced DLCs, weighs upon even the most loyal captains. What once invited mastery through courage and wit now leans upon grind and coin. Powder, shot, and patience are all sold dear, and the game’s economy creaks under its own design. One cannot help but feel that the hand upon the tiller has lost its course. Each update seems less a refinement than an interference, as though the ship is being steered into shallower waters by those who no longer hear the wind. And yet, beneath the frustration, one still glimpses what Naval Action once was—a rare and artful homage to the Age of Sail. That glimmer keeps many of us aboard, though the voyage grows ever more wearisome.
This used to be a good game, best of its kind in genre. Then the devs got greedy. DLC, paywalls, new systems and mechanics nobody wanted. Then they doubled down when everyone called them out for it. Player count dropped, barely 100 people on the servers. Devs still refuse to admit they are wrong. They have now decided to triple down and make the game paid for again after many years of being f2p. It hurts to see a old beloved game die like this. I pains me to write this review. Stay away...
Kesinlikle tavsiye etmiyorum.
A few years ago, this game was sort of fun - I wasn't around before it was free-to-play, but I was puttering about before the 2025 update. I've heard from veterans it was more fun before 2022, but in my experience, the game was kind of fun even after - the constant resets and seasons were ♥♥♥♥, but even then, the game had its moments. Then the devs ruined it. Earlier this year, they dropped an update that massively changed the game - you have to grind for your ammo and to unlock its production, resource-by-resource. You have to grind to experience any combat, and as far as I can suss out, any combat is a net negative. You will spend more by pirating than what you stand to gain, even if it's piracy against other players. Yes, you heard that right: piracy, in a game whose main hook is piracy, is unprofitable and unfun. Buying your ammo is no better a grind either - the issues of random people buying up shot and powder and selling it back at massively-hiked prices persist half a year into the update's release. Combined with the changes to boarding and naval combat itself that make it grueling and unfair, the devs' attitude and passive-aggressiveness to critics and average Joes in their own discord server, and the shrinking playerbase after the initial influx of new players, the developers have nailed Naval Action's coffin shut for good. The only upside was that the game was free-to-play, and you could access the Peace Server, the dedicated PvE server of the game, as a F2P. Guess what the devs did October 17th? They made the game pay-to-play again, at a pricetag of $20 USD. Worse, they cut off access to the Peace Server and restricted it to anyone who bought the game before 2022, or to anyone who has bought the $40 USD Galeon DLC. It doesn't matter if you already bought any of the other DLC, you have to buy that specific DLC to access the PvE server if you just want to sail your ship in peace. TL:DR, don't buy this game. It's not worth it, not even for two hours of playtime before you refund it. Trust me, those two hours you'll get will be an hour of doing pointless back-and-forth trucking to scrounge barely any money at all, and then the rest of that will be spent being boarded, losing your ship and all your money to AI or another player. If you want a pirate game, I'd suggest Sea of Thieves. If you just want an MMO like this, go play EVE - at least it's more honest about what it wants from you, and it's actually free-to-play.
