Or were you deaf or were you blind when you left your two fine legs behind, Or was it sailing on the sea when you got the cannonball to your knee, I too was young and I was slim and I had a leg for every limb, But now I’ve got no legs at all, they were both shot away by a cannonball.

About

Admiral John Byng who spent his life sailing the seas for the British Navy, died in 1757, by bullets on the deck of HMS Monarch. Admiral Horatio Nelson, carrying on with the utmost duty, fell similarly to a French musket shot in 1805.
Now it is YOUR turn to sail the seas of the Age of Sail.
But it would be wise to approach the subject cautiously: practice, improve your skill and your ship and connections with allies. Then you can commandeer best vessels: crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear lamentations of their women in global chat.
.......................................................................................................................................................
Naval Action is a hardcore, realistic, and beautifully detailed naval combat game immersing players into the experience of the most beautiful period of naval history - when sailing ships ruled the seas.
Age of sail combat is a personal affair with no dirty tricks, corner camping, or hiding in bushes: you see the enemy from 20km and so do they. Just like in boxing you have to get close; and use all your tactical knowledge of wind, your ship to slug it out face to face. Broadside weight matters, but even a smaller vessel can overcome the superior enemy by focusing on the enemy weak spots.
No game has come closer to the replication of the Age of Sail sailing mechanics and combat. Thats why Naval action was named one best releases from early access in 2019 by Valve!
Beautiful ships – We have been painstakingly recreating the beautiful ships of the Age of sail period. Accurate hull models, sail plans, guns, internal upgrades, historical speed trials were used in the creation of vessels. The game features 50+ ships from small cutters to large 100+ gun 1st rates allowing the player to experience every possible role of that era.

Realistic sailing – Advanced wind and physics model provides for realistic portrayal of ship’s performance in the age of sail. Yard angles, ship angle to wind, fittings and ship condition affects speeds and turning rates. Correct tacking, boxhauling, clubhauling and other elements of realistic sailing will help you win battles in most adverse conditions.
Conquest and PVP Activities Fight for the domination of the West Indies, recreated based on 18th Century maps and navigational charts. Build ships, trade, attack enemies of your nation almost everywhere and capture their ships and Open trading outposts in the ports governed by your clan.
Damage model – Every cannonball is tracked in the air and after it hits the target. Leaks, structural damage, torn sails, demasting, raking, fires, explosions and all other hazards that were possible in that era. Damage is positional: hit the gun and you might destroy it. Gunnery crews are placed deck by deck. Shot can pass through the balcony, ricochet of the gun, hit a crew member and then fly out of the gunport splashing into the water. Armor thickness and wood types affect strength of the hull and cannonballs will ricochet from the hulls at extreme angles.
Built for PVP: Absolutely no hackers.
Hacking is a killer of fun in PVP games. From the start we have built the tech around one main goal - complete elimination of hacking from PVP. Naval Action is one of the few games where hacking is made impossible by design. Every battle action is calculated on the servers, even water and wave shapes. Yes - you have heard it right: there is a special server that calculates and replicates waves to all users in battle. When fighting in Naval action you can be sure you are only facing skills and ship fittings.
Gunnery and weapons – Major types of naval artillery are implemented: from long guns to mortars to carronades and obusiers. Fort and land batteries will provide you with support during battles near shores. Mortar vessels can destroy fortifications, though they may require an escort.

Each gun has realistic ballistics and penetration performance based on historical gun charts and admiralty tests. Heel and wind affect the shooting distance and will require a change in tactics.
Thank you, Captains for Attention

I loved this game, it was probably the best age of sail game ever made. Sadly it is not that game anymore, it is barely recognisable now. Toxic developer with a bad temper and attitude to the community and his game completely destroyed it. Nothing left but a stripped out and empty shell of a game now, it has less content today than it did 9 years ago when it entered steam as an open beta... how is that possible? who knows! but its true hah.
Greed has sunk this game to Davy Jones. You can't even fight until you have cannons, which you can't get without grinding FOREVER. This used to be one of the best, a great old-time sailing simulator with realistic action. Now it's literally unplayable.
I know it will be slightly longer review, but this sh*t show doesn't deserve any positive feedback so here goes Started playing this game few years ago since i love this period. Fascinating ships all of them were art and combat was actually about strategy taking into account surrounding conditions and each ship was trying to get upper hand. Naval action was amazing at that when i started playing. No ammo purchase, grind was on slower side but still well managed. I've ended up on Vice Admiral and was able to fight ships of the line with 3rd rate ship. Was getting coins and medals along with some upgrades. Boarding was interesting although it was just clicking but pressing "]" unleased grape shot into hull which could have gotten you upper hand. Still did not guarantee you win but you could do at least something. Around that time i was enjoying game so much that i bought few premium ships (Redoutable and Victory) and they allowed me to capture normal HMS Victory which was my target since i love that ship and even though i just sailed it and did not really took it into combat since i was afraid of loosing her i loved every moment with her i believe this was year maybe 2022-2023 and times were perfect. Now we will get to present time. Victory DLC i've bought and could have used it, now i cannot simply because devs decided to raise crew requirements so much that my 70 dlc is not usable. I SAY THAT AGAIN. I BOUGHT DLC IN CONDITIONS I COULD USE IT AND THEY TOOK IT AWAY FROM ME. Grinding changed from slow to 2nd job style. Getting to top rank is not just matter of days or month. YOU HAVE TO QUIT YOUR JOB, SELL YOUR KIDS TO BAHAMAS AND PUT PLANKS OVER YOUR WINDOWS TO KEEP YOU AWAY FROM OUTSIDE WORLD. Ships are now doing very little damage compared to what it was. Boarding weeeeell good luck. Building different ship ? Sure go ahead but read again about quitting your job. Devs are throwing this game into serious cr*p. Each update made it worse, each update took away parts of the game we liked. I mean honestly if you pay for something for a game and they change how it works and now you are not able to do its gotta be some sort of policy violation. DO NOT PLAY THE GAME, DO NOT SUPPORT CURRENT STATE OF IT. Devs need to realise only they got power to push game and give community what they promised , fix what they mess up and maybe people will return although it will be hard to fix what they broke. To people which finished reading all the way to here. Thank you and fair winds
This game is awfull at the beginning, bad UI, unexplained mechanics, and built around the goal to make you pay additional DLC from the start. You start with 3 storage in your warehouse (can't even manage basic ships consummables) No dock slot (you can't buy a ship and prepare it for later use, and if you bought a ship that you don't have enough crew to manage you are stuck and forced to sell it.) No auction slot (The ship you bought but you can't use because their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ UI is ♥♥♥♥, you can't sell it.) Slow as ♥♥♥♥, tedious, unrewarding, consufing. You HAVE te get your credit card and PAY to play. What a disgrace.
This game is not what I bought into years ago unfortunately. Take a good look at the store page to see a few red flags in regards to how the game has changed since the purchase. I am not sure who wrote the new page but it's terrible and that's just the handshake of the game. Gameplay itself has been run into the ground with the game having a heavier grind than any game I've ever played. If the player count was in the hundred or thousands, maybe it could work. Honestly, now I just wish I could get my money back since this game is not what I paid for anymore. It's a shame because I loved this game for years. But it's now just a sham under Naval Action's name.
My biggest issue with the game is that resources are limited in towns, so dedicated players (bots?) snatch 'em up and sell them at a mark up. That means you're paying a lot extra for stuff, which makes the grind worse. I've done the grind several times myself and it's just gotten worse over the years. Now, this game is very grindy as a solo player, to the point that I suspect it's to force clan and group play. so unless you're planning to group up, don't bother. I could go on and on about this game, but I'm just so done. It breaks my heart as I used to love this game, but now it's a fungus ridden ♥♥♥♥ stain.
I don't know what the dev is on but i hope i don't get any dosage of it. - - - Any DLC bought, you do not have access to it in the game from the get go, you have to actually STILL Grind and spend hours in the game to UNLOCK your PAID DLC - - - The game feels unpolished, unfinished. There seems to be indicators that you can build and craft but i never really got there or the features seem to have been either removed or never implemented? Like, you are supposed to passively create a resource according to the building info but you simply just cant? There is no proper trading bar, its hidden in the map menu separately and even then its horribly implemented and complicated to use. There is no clear path in the game, you hop into a ship, haul cargo and barely manage to find equipment and ammo for your ship in order to engage in pvp / pve. The grind is absolutely horrible in contrast that you have to spend literal hours in the game in order to advance to a rank to obtain a ship that can barely handle up a fight with a higher tier ranking ship in pve. PVP Is a hot mess. As a fresh or new player with barely anything to go with rank wise, anyone max rank can just come and wipe you off the board soon as you enter the pvp threshold zone. You are set to failure if you think you can go out solo without spending months grinding your rank up in the PVE zone to obtain the funds and crew limit increase with your rank ups to use and even manage a proper ship to engage in pvp activities even. If you are lucky not running into a pack of players where you end up in a 5vs1 or 10vs1. TLDR - Lack of proper trading tools - Lack of proper crafting mechanics and instructions unclear. - Lack of gameplay loops, the only one you seem to have is sail back and forth rince and repeat the same deal (pve or cargo hauling) Before you can think of handling anything outside the 'safe zone' - You start of with nothing but a starter ship. No guns no ammo no equipment of anykind. Just a starter ship to start your first haul mission for less than 5 XP points and little less over 7,000 coins (Main game currency) - it takes an average of 15 to 25 minutes to find a suitable target to attack (PVE) early on and battles last around 15 to 25 minutes. = with a competent good ship around 20 to 30 minutes of sailing for a battle. With the same 15-25 minute avg. Battle time. If the winds favour your alignment with the hostile ship. - You can't cross your pvpve / pve server profiles, ============================================ Game has, or had? Potential but i can't express how upset i am of what i have seen in the discord with the dev's and their heading with the game and seemingfully ignoring the cries of the majority what's wrong with the game. I personally don't think the developer has played their own game even at this point. Now a little self venting from my experiences trying to interact in their discord below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Appareantly critizing the heading of the game in the discord in a discussion board with the devs on the game get's your messaging deleted if it hurts the dev's feelings. Asking how the game was around in its first years and during its peak times when there actually was a playerbase higher than 60-120 people. It seem to have been a sinful act and got me removed from the discord, its like i hit a nerve. I was just only curious as i was not here from the start. - And banned without a reason from discord - No chance for appeal, snuffed and silenced. 10/10
