This game speaks to me! As someone who primarily plays almost exclusively shoot em ups/Shmups/Bullet Hell, STG's, I can say this game is perfect for someone like me who wants a quick, intensive, no non-sense arcade style of fun. As I've gotten older and my obligations in life have increased, I do not have the time to dedicate to complex gaming mechanics as before. I just want to jump and have fun and log out. I might have only fifteen to thirty minutes of free time, and this sort of game is literally perfect for anyone seeking high quality entertainment without the hassle of complexity. I'll leave the mechanics and how the game is structured to other reviewers, but suffice to say, if you are seeking fast and intense arcade game play, modern graphics, catchy and quirky tunes, memorable Namco characters, online leader boards, quick gaming sessions that can go for five to twenty minutes, this is game is pure gold! Easy to play Intense arcade action Great presentation Nostalgic and classic Namco characters Catchy tunes Online leader boards to motivate Excellent price for your entertainment value Always wanted to get grandma to game? This is the game (have her take on the entire retired community center and be a legend)! Get it, you will not regret it. My hat off to you Namco Bandai!
Takes a little bit of time to figure out combos. Really addictive and quite fun! Works on steam deck!
As far as these Suika-like games go, this one feels unique. The timeless Namco arcade sound effects and voxel versions of classic arcade sprites are nostalgic and really release that dopamine when scoring a big combo. Some stages are definitely better than others (seriously that 3-second background music loop on XEVIOUS should have been reworked). I particularly enjoyed the Suika versions of MAPPY and THE TOWER OF DRUAGA and now I'm curious to play the original arcade games. I binged this game over just a few days since it's easy to play "just one more round" only for a few hours to pass without realizing it.
A humble little game that's exactly what it looks like on the tin. I've gotten a shocking amount of enjoyment out of it, but that's mostly because I'm a classic Namco nerd. Would love to see more stuff added over time from other games like Galaga and Bosconian, but as is, I've had a lot of fun with it!
This is BeXide's latest in a series of licensed spinoffs of their Fruit Mountain 3D matching game. Much like the Touhou Yukkuri and Hololive versions that precede it, this game adds to the basic Suika-style matching gameplay formula by having the player complete objectives and earn points to unlock more characters. Also included is an online high score leaderboard, and an extra mode where your voxel characters can be arranged and displayed in a customized scene. The music tracks and sound effects from the original game sound great, and I especially liked the few original arrangements that were done. I don't know if these voxel renders of the sprites already existed or if they were created specifically for this game, but they all look very good. At the time of this review, local multiplayer is not included but is planned to be released in the future. I would also like to see the time attack mode from the demo be added into the full release. Otherwise, there is some precedent from the earlier entries for more characters to be added in a later update. There are still quite a few Namco games that aren't represented (Galaxian, Rally-X, Metro-Cross, Motos, Bosconian) that I believe would fit in well. From my perspective, the main appeal of this release are the classic Namco arcade properties represented in 3D. Even forty years after their original releases, these games still have devout fanbase, and I can imagine any Namco arcade game fan picking up this release and enjoying the simple gameplay. This is the most expensive in the series so far, costing more than any other release by a sizeable amount. This is understandable for licensing such iconic characters, but there really isn't any extra content to make up for the higher price. If you're in purely for the gameplay, the Hololive version seems like a better value with comparable features. But for me personally, I like the characters and gameplay together enough to give this title a recommendation.
As a fan of the Suika Game gameplay, this game is VERY fun and satisfying. The theming and gameplay makes this simple game style feel more arcadey and polished with the overall presentation. I really enjoy being able to collect the different voxel models and setting them up in cute little dioramas as well! Initially, I thought that each level not having music was an issue but then realized it's accurate to each respective game's audio. You can actually customize which voxels you use in the mashup gameplay! Overall, if you are a big fan of this style of gameplay, and a big fan of Namco's IPs, I HIGHLY recommend getting this.
It takes a few minutes to learn, but once you do it's an incredibly clever puzzle game with a lot of built-in nostalgia from the featured 80s Namco arcade games, music & sound effects. Trying to complete the entire collection and unlock the different themed stages provides a lot of replay value. I jumped right in without playing the demo and I'm glad I did. If you're in to unique puzzle games that go beyond trivia, words or simple jigsaw puzzles give this one a try.
