Nakawak: Expanded Color Edition

It's not the worst microvania out there by any means. In fact, jumping around and shooting stuff in an Atari/DOS Metroid was somewhat intriguing. The beeps and bleeps are good for creating a mood and atmosphere but are ultimately repetitive and annoying to endure. While there are branching paths, they are mostly one-way tunnels. It's "okay".

Solid mini-metroidvania game with good controls, interesting levels to explore, and an air of nostalgia. Certainly a bargain, even at full price. I've had fun with it.

Mir hat das Spiel gefallen und ich freue mich schon auf die kommenden Updates, welche dann hoffentlich auch die Durchspielzeit erhöhen. Sound und Grafik sind im Retro-Stil gehalten und meiner Meinung nach ganz ordentlich. Ich kann mir aber vorstellen, dass es nicht jedem zusagen wird. Den Schwierigkeitsgrad find ich nach dem Update auch in Ordnung. Abstürze gab's keine bei mir. Der Entwickler scheint nett zu sein und geht auf Kritikpunkte ein. Er schaut auch gern bei Youtube, was die Spielerschaft mit seinem Spiel anstellt und holt sich auch dort Feedback. Das fand ich persönlich ziemlich nett. Den Preis find ich mittlerweile auch angemessen und neuer Inhalt soll gratis hinzukommen, wenn ich das richtig gelesen hab.

Short and sweet, beat it in about an hour and a half and enjoyed it. Pretty rough around the edges but it all works right and the price is fair. Good for between larger games.

I first back this game on Kickstarter, recently downloaded it, and enjoyed playing this game. It was always a treat to find each new ability, and then go back to find the life orbs and missile packs. The developer said he's working on adding more content to the game, so be sure to keep an eye on this game's progress :)

For what it is, not bad. It's VERY reminiscent of the original Metroid for the NES. The game itself looks like it could have been a forgotten NES ROM that you downloaded and never played. The controls are simple but effective, though they don't feel smooth. The soundtrack is very Metroid-like, in that it's atonal, dissonant, and yet very moody and helps make the setting. A high point for me. The Metroidvania style backtracking is there, certainly, and that's what made me buy it, as it's my favourite genre, but this game is pretty condensed, so it feels kind of forced. It could very easily have been made linear. Which brings up another point. It's short. Not necessarily in a bad way. I mean, it's very cheap so your expectations should be in line with that. Overall, for less than the price of a cup of coffee, it's entertaining enough and seems glitch-free (so far).
