tl;dr: Needs additional software. After that still buggy. Got this for 2 bucks in a sale, had some nostalgic fun, but still disappointing that it doesn't work properly. The game is fine, if you install dgvoodoo or some other helper to get the graphics going or not crashing after the first race respectively (see forums). The championship races are fine, but more than half the fun back then, when I played it in my teens, were the death matches. But in this version here you can equip your car all you like, most of the time you will start with some random assemblage of no good stuff, and the equipment you get is sometimes already empty at the start of the race. Also, your opponents in the deathmatches don't have to drive the full circuit: If you get off the track, they will magically appear some distance before or behind you, and in the latter case you're dead. One time I spent two minutes far off track just to see my opponents rush by every ten seconds. I guess, after 7 hours of playtime I probably won't touch it again.
It must be fixed a lot,but still a great game

N.I.C.E. 2 is a distinctly late-1990s arcade racing experience that blends speed, spectacle, and mechanical experimentation into a package that feels both ambitious and unmistakably of its era. Developed by Synetic GmbH and published by UniqueGames Publishing GmbH, the game—also known to many players under its North American title, Breakneck—aims less to simulate real-world motorsport and more to deliver an energetic, content-rich racing playground. Approached today, it functions as a time capsule of PC racing design, capturing a period when developers were eager to combine arcade immediacy with just enough tuning depth to keep players invested beyond simple pick-up-and-play thrills. One of the most striking aspects of N.I.C.E. 2 is the sheer breadth of its content. The game offers a surprisingly large roster of vehicles spanning multiple classes, from sleek sports cars to unconventional options that lean into exaggerated arcade sensibilities. Each category feels intentionally distinct, not just visually but also in how it handles on the road, encouraging players to experiment rather than settle into a single favorite. This sense of variety extends to the track selection, which covers a wide range of global locations and supports mirrored and reversed layouts, effectively multiplying the number of race configurations available. For a game of its time, this abundance gives the experience a longevity that goes beyond what many contemporaries offered. Driving mechanics in N.I.C.E. 2 strike a careful balance between accessibility and engagement. Cars are responsive and forgiving, allowing players to push aggressively through corners without the punishing realism of hardcore simulators. At the same time, momentum, braking, and cornering still matter enough that skillful driving is rewarded, especially at higher speeds or on more technical courses. The game’s tuning system reinforces this balance, giving players control over aspects such as engine performance, suspension, and handling characteristics. While not as granular as modern racing games, these options meaningfully affect how cars behave, making preparation and experimentation a core part of the experience rather than an afterthought. Adding to the arcade identity is the inclusion of combat-oriented mechanics that introduce a layer of chaos to the racing. Weapons and disruptive tools allow players to interfere with opponents mid-race, shifting the focus from pure lap times to situational awareness and opportunistic play. These elements give races a volatile edge, where positions can change rapidly based on timing and aggression. While this approach may not appeal to purists, it aligns perfectly with the game’s design philosophy, emphasizing excitement and unpredictability over strict competitive realism. Visually, N.I.C.E. 2 clearly reflects the technological limitations of its release era. Environments are functional rather than lavish, with simple textures and lighting that prioritize clarity and performance over detail. Despite this, there is a certain charm to its presentation, especially in the way tracks are laid out to emphasize speed and flow. The interface and menus likewise feel dated, but they remain serviceable, communicating essential information without unnecessary complexity. Audio design supports the action with energetic music and engine sounds that reinforce the game’s fast-paced tone, even if they lack the fidelity expected from modern titles. Playing N.I.C.E. 2 today inevitably highlights its age, both in terms of presentation and technical quirks. Modern players may encounter compatibility issues or find the overall feel less refined compared to contemporary racing games. Yet these limitations are inseparable from the game’s identity; it was built for an era when experimentation and excess were valued as much as polish. For some, this roughness may be a barrier, but for others it enhances the nostalgic appeal, recalling a time when racing games embraced bold ideas without strict genre boundaries. Taken as a whole, N.I.C.E. 2 is best appreciated as a spirited and content-rich arcade racer that prioritizes fun, variety, and experimentation. It may not offer the precision or visual fidelity of modern racing titles, but its expansive vehicle selection, flexible track design, and blend of racing with combat give it a personality that still stands out. For players interested in retro PC racing or curious about the evolutionary steps between arcade racers and more simulation-focused designs, N.I.C.E. 2 remains an engaging and revealing experience, showcasing a moment when speed, style, and sheer quantity defined the thrill of the race. Rating: 5/10

Ретро гонки, ничего особенного, но и ничего плохого. Вдруг ваш любимый жанр: гонки, и вы шарите по всем гонкам в принципе, здесь вы что-то для себя найдете. Игра не пустая.
