Hello there Mystica overall is a decent game. I will start with this. I do not recommend the optional stuff late game though. The grind is real and that's from someone that usually likes grinding. The enemies just balloon in health and damage. Its just not a fun rewarding endgame content with combat in mind. (Meaning fights are tedious in several optional cases.) Compared to Empire there is some balancing, which falls off late game. Sad days. Music however is pretty good, the story is pretty decent, the visual effects are better than in Empire. Overall it's an improvement and a success as a sequel. If combat is your main focus in a game than i wouldn’t recommend it late game as its pretty dang annoying. I for one would recommend it… albeit barely for me.
I've really enjoyed playing through "Mystica". It's an excellent successor to "Empire", the developer's first game. Although it's not necessary to play "Empire" first, I strongly recommend it; it's also a very good game, and many characters and locations appear in "Mystica" again, which continues "Empire's" story 30 years later. If you still decide to start with "Mystica", you can read about all of "Empire's" important events in the menu's detailed "notebook". "Mystica's" story is gripping, the dialogues are witty and well written. Constant power struggles between different nations and the persecution of magic users are dominant themes throughout the game. The conditional turn-based battle system is also fun and challenging, featuring the usual elemental skills, status conditions and a very player-friendly skill-chain (quick time event) system to deal some extra damage. There's even a story mode that eliminates random encounters, so you can focus on the story if you want, and even in the normal mode random encounters can be adjusted at any given time (0%, 50% or 100%). Battles, besides EXP, also yield AP, which can be used in the "Skill Realm" to unlock new (active and passive) skills and stats bonuses. Item usage plays an important role in battles, since Evie can use cooking skills that consume different kinds of foods. Unfortunately, due to Evie's cooking skills, most monster drops revolve around cooking materials (which can also be bought), but if you - unlike me - don't like to grind for equipment, this design choice probably won't bother you. There are a lot of side quests to undertake, and the developer provides an official walkthrough that contains all the important stuff (though not every hidden treasure chest or item). Many optional tasks are permanently missable, though, due to a (rather obvious) story-related point of no return before the game's final chapter, and some items are hidden in a counter-intuitive manner, so it would be wise to use the walkthrough even if you think you can manage on your own. If you like story-heavy classic old-school JRPGs with (conditional) turn-based battles and don't mind playing games made with RPG Maker (MV), "Empire" and "Mystica" will provide dozens of hours of fun.
It's good. More JRPG than western RPG. Abilities unlock as you buy them and you'll probably buy them all. Abilities are purchased using a separate accumulative than exp though both are earned from killing. Map has some 'secrets' and if you miss them, you will miss ability unlocks. Hard to miss though. The story is well tread territory. I've played 3 or 4 games with the same general conflict/ persecution in the last year alone. If you read the description of the game in the 'About This Game' section of the steam page, you've probably already realized this. The characters are well written and distinct tropes, with some exceptions. The dialogue is coherent. It does a good job of getting you invested without being too off-color or too bland. Some of your dialogue options have consequences. It is grindy but you can turn it on story mode if you dislike grind. As someone who tends to like grind, I was pleasantly surprised that the combat system rewards you for active play instead of just holding down the enter key til it's over. My only criticism of the grind is that the encounter rate cannot be turned up enough to avoid pacing back and forth, looking for a fight. The equipment system isn't worth mentioning. The crafting system is 'cooking'.
I'll give my early review to gain some traction for this game. I've only scratched the surface so far as I'm only in Chapter 2 and 8 hours into the game. I have not played the predecessor to this game "Empire" as I was unaware of it at the time of purchasing it. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who likes old school RPG's reminiscent of the SNES days. The game has a gripping and yet gritty story so far that rivals that of Final Fantasy and from what I understand it was done by a single developer! The music style is well used and reflects the tone of the game well. I have not played many other games made with an RPG maker but the couple I have didn't have the depth I have found so far in this game.
Great game, if you are a fan of classic JRPGs I would recommend trying it out. Definitely worth the price point.
The game's plot borders on brain-dead and lost my suspension of disbelief after a boardroom of a handful of people elected the equivalent of "magic Hitler", who was completely transparent about his desire to basically murder half the population just for having magic potential. It feels like it was written by a 5-year-old. Other than that, it's a decent enough Final Fantasy clone.
I think the game is game, storyline so far is really cool! Also the battles are fun, and graphics are great keep up the great work your very talented. You will go far i believe in you
Definitely a well made game, perfect for the RPG enthusiast. This is a successor to the game Empire, and while you don't have to play that to understand this, it would really help a lot, esp with the backstory. Also, Empire is an excellent game as well, so it's worth the play through first. Mystica has a great story, and the characters are all unique, with all their attributes, as well as character flaws. The game play is good as well, with challenging enemies, and lots of skills you can unlock. Highly recommend!
tres bon jeux a quand le prochain
Enjoyed it. I wish more games like this allowed you to turn off random encounters, letting you chose when to grind or letting you explore without having to fight every 10 steps. Do recommend playing Empire first though.
