"Mystic Isles" is an abandoned 2D/ISO minimalist boardgame which comes across as a bit of a ripoff of Settlers of Catan, if Settlers of Catan had bad graphics and wasn't a complete game. What do you do in the game? Not much because there's no players and no matchmaker, but if you could play this, just like Settlers of Catan, it's all about gathering resources and buying and placing upgrades. Actually I'm a little surprised the developer didn't get sued for this because it really does look a bit copyrighty-infringey. The developers abandoned this 5 years and 3 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. This game features very lacklustre minimalist "art" for graphics instead of anything remotely contemporary. I'm sure the "developer" thought this would come across as "artistic", but it doesn't, it comes across as "really lazy". Yes, contemporary 3D graphics take a lot of time and effort to create. That doesn't mean it's okay not to bother! Developers must try to understand that gaming is a visual medium, and gamers spend a lot of money on high end gaming rigs for a reason. And that reason is not so they can look at lazy, phoned-in half efforts like this. It's free for now, but the developer intends to charge for this through cancerous in-game microtransactions if it ever leaves Early Access... but considering the poor public reception, it's likely this will not be one of the 25% of games that ever gets finished and leaves Early Access. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 7 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
