Fazit: kaufen, kaufen, kaufen! :-)
Story
You play as a reporter, Sarah Hamilton, who has been sent to Neuschwanstein as part of an investigative story.
Gameplay
You go from area to area picking up objects and solving puzzles to solve the mystery of Neuschwanstein. The game gives you a good background on Neuschwanstein and King Ludwig II. Neuschwanstein is the castle Disney modeled their castle from. There are interesting facts about both the King and the castle. There are a variety of puzzles. I played in easy mode, where objects of interest sparkle. There are lock picking puzzles where you have to open lock by entering a code. Each number of the code moves different pins in the lock. There are hacking puzzles where you need to make a number of two point connections without crossing paths. There are jump puzzles where you have to leave a specific piece remaining. Though the instructions could be better as the remaining piece does not need to be in the center to complete the puzzle. There are hidden object puzzles where you have to find specific items in a mess of items. Not many of the names had multiple meanings, such as Bolt, which could be a fastening device or a projectile for a crossbow. Some of the puzzles require you to contribute items from your inventory. Plus a few more different types of puzzles. I thought all of the voice acting, with the exception of the main character was very good. She said her lines, but that's all she did. There was no passion with it and it often sounded flat.
Final Verdict
A good hidden object / puzzle game with lots of historical information about Neuschwanstein. Cardinal rule of hidden object games: When you find the "object", there is no doubt you found the right thing. This game has 5 different brown-tinged metal keys and it asks you to find the "Brass Key". No way not to have to guess. Bad game! NO! Bad!
A good old HOG with a history theme. You have a tablet to interact with for notes and emails. It eventually gets a UV light and night vision goggles. The puzzles can be quite challenging. The HOs have some tiny things to find that can be a challenge too. In some HOs you have to use items from your inventory, so that is a cool feature. On easy mode the things to interact with and pick up sparkle, so you shouldn't miss anything. Except you still can if you rush through each screen! Things are a little hard to spot on normal/hard because they can be really small. Some screens can have two diary pages to find, so check carefully. Overall the game time should be between 2-5 hours if you have no troubles.
(Not sure how to get the "Mechanic" Achievement and sadly... Not going to try and figure it out). I am guessing that this game wanted for you to feel like a detective and investigate things on your own, solving the mystery in the end. That's all good and all, but... The game has glitches and a few... Annoying things. For one, at times interactable objects/people would move with me from scene to scene or even into a puzzle. I mean... It's hilarious at first... Until you realize that it's a mess. Re-loading the game works. Next: The letters you are supposed to find. They get stuck and you can't read them. It's a trial and error when they will get unstuck for you to take off that "MISSED MESSAGE" red mark from your screen! The worst though... The worst is that the Hint system doesn't know where the Hidden Object scenes are. You HAVE TO memorize all sorts of things... Especially where an H.O. scene could be!!! And how the hell are you supposed to know that on your first try? If you get stuck... You gotta examine EVERYTHING all over again and hope to find that one H.O. scene to move on... Also... Tiny objects. Please! I couldn't even tell some apart from where they were! And this wasn't even in an H.O. scene either! Also x2: Sometimes you need to interact with something that the mouse pointer wont even interact with/change. HAVE FUN!!! Now if you bypass all that and are all good, how is the rest? It isn't that bad. Unless you get stuck... Or you glitch... Yeah, okay. I liked the story/mystery and even when an altar was chasing me through every room... It was funny. The "skip" button is instant and it keeps asking you what difficulty you want to play... Every single time you start the game. o.O Complaints aside... Not hating on it. It is what it is and it's fine. Thank yous! :>
<Game native resolution: indeterminate> Do you remember the Puzz3D puzzles from Milton Bradley? I only ever got three of them as a kid but they were great. One was the Millennium Falcon, another "Bavarian Mansion," and the other was called "Alpine Castle." I understand why it was called that. It's a bit easier for American kids to say than "Neuschwanstein." It's a fascinating design for a castle. I almost wasn't surprised to see a hidden object adventure game about it. But yeah, it was kind of surprising. It's just a cool looking castle. There's no need for anyone to visit it and mess around with the objects inside. Enter Sarah Hamilton, our heroine for this adventure. She's a journalist on the trail of a secret treasure hidden in this iconic alpine castle. This game sucks. I wrote too many notes about bad things to mention in this review. Every element of the game has problems and there's no point in detailing them. The developers didn't even bother to animate ANYTHING. They didn't care and the woman playing Ms. Hamilton didn't care, so I don't care. Just don't play Mystery of Neuschwanstein. It ain't worth it. Buying a used Puzz3D Alpine Castle for $50 is a better use of your money than paying $3 for this game. Just ensure your puzzle kit still has all the pieces - this game certainly doesn't!
Mir hat es Spaß gemacht
Trying to play this co-op, I was literally falling asleep, but it's about on par with other HOG, so if you enjoy those, go for it!
Mystery of Neuschwanstein is a hidden object game where you play as a journalist investigating the real, titular castle, home of Bavarian king Ludwig II with the help of a professor. It follows the same formula as Artifex Mundi's HOGs, but being made by a different company it has some differences as well. One of the more noticeable ones is that sometimes in HOG scenes you have to combine it with something from your inventory and not from the scene itself. While the levels look pretty, I notice one thing that I'm not a fan: the colors look so dull. While one can argue its more realistic, I'm in HOGs to look for colorful pictures. That aside, it has a pretty interesting mystery story, and people who enjoy history and HOGs will have fun playing this game, especially if you're familiar with the Fairy Tale King and his unusual hobbies.
