Mystery Masterpiece: The Moonstone

In this video I take a look at Mystery Masterpiece: The Moonstone a hidden object detective game. From the catalog of HH-Games comes another great HOG game at a great price. This time it's a detective game set in a posh manor in early England. This is an older title but it has a unique layout to it that makes it refreshingly different and worth taking a look at. It is primarily based on HOG's without the need to find them so you can just go straight to them when investigating a suspect, so it's great for HOG fans. Garbage

Very hard spotting little objects, when click hint make sure you find everything but main clue otherwise it will only show you that for hint and no other item and when clicking on a item you have to be exact or it says not there when it is, so after all that it makes it an annoying game instead of fun.

One of the hardest HOG's I've played, mainly because many of the items are very small and blended into the background, plus you have to click exactly on it or it just sits there. There isn't a zoom feature to help but there is a hint button and zero misclick penalties. That said, I really enjoyed this non-cookie cutter HO game! The scenes are intricate, finding the items are challenging and the music is beautiful. You are a detective investigating the theft of a stolen moonstone and you will be investigating everyone in the household. I have one investigation to go so I can't comment on the ending but the game is definitely engrossing! If you like HOG's you should like this one.

I play a lot of HOG's. This is one of the more interesting ones simply because the concept is different. It's not supernatural. It's not horror. It's an old fashioned mystery you get to solve by actually investigating the people in the mansion on the night the precious stone is stolen. As for positives, I felt the story was an interesting one with enough potential twists and turns to keep it fresh. Negatives: The artwork is awful. The HOG's can be really difficult to discern the individual items from the background. I never have enjoyed that type of thing. It's also got a slow hint refresh and no way to speed it up. There's a strategy guide, concept art, and music files, but you have to find them in the game files on your computer. In general, I would recommend this only for people who have a lot of patience with very small, difficult to find items in HOG's or for people who enjoy mysteries. Otherwise, nope. It's not going to be your thing.

It was an entertaining enough way to spend a couple of hours, but this is by far the most casual of this type of game that I have ever played. The game is entirely played through hidden object scenes (which are each used twice) and there are no different difficulty settings. Hints are available every minute or so. There will be one object in the room that's either a tool or a clue that requires a tool, and the use of the tools and clues together is very very simple - even a pretty young child could solve the puzzles. After all of the scenes are complete, you have to accuse the suspect you think is guilty. However, there is no penalty for guessing wrong. You just get an explanation of why that person wasn't guilty, and then you can guess again. In the end, I didn't feel like I would ever have actually come up with the conclusion the detective came to given the clues provided, so that was a little disappointing. The art was decent - I don't remember seeing anything in the puzzles and not knowing it was supposed to be the thing I was searching for. If I ever had difficulty finding it, I always felt pretty silly once I did. Music was nice (a series of classical pieces) and each character has their own "motif", but that same piece will play over and over on repeat while you are doing the puzzles associated with that person, so I ended up listening to them each for about 20 minutes and they were getting pretty old by the time I was done. All in all, it was a very very light, easy, hidden object game, but if you like your games on the easy, relaxing side, you may find it enjoyable. $4.99 is not a bad price for it, but even better if you can get it on sale or bundled.

My recommendation is tentative. Some people will like the game; others will find it tedious. The way the game is organized by almost an infinitude of interviews of potential witnesses/perps leaves me cold. The idea behind a single interview is good; applying it across the board to a whole host of characters seems assured to make many find a reason to quit this game.

Pretty good old fashioned hidden object game.

I play mostly HOG & puzzle games. This HOG is OK-ish, mostly ho-hum. It is all HOG, one after another.

Very glitchy. Can't get past brushing for fingerprints on a bottle because it thinks I haven't brushed the whole finger print.
