All Hail King Mongo is a hidden objects game adventure. The story about a princess who received a letter from her father's servant, Reko the dwarf. He mentioned that her father, king Murad Mustana has disappeared and her brother Prince Mongo has declared himself to be the new king. Clearly, there is a foul play, especially when you discovered that the sorcerer Zarrar became the wizard again, even after the King himself had kicked him out of the kingdom long ago. The ending kind of predictable but it is not a bad story overall. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1770631744 The first thing you'll notice that there is no map or journal, only objectives you'll get and it will lead you to the tasks in hand. The hint is the servant, he gives you written tips of what you should do next, it is a good way of giving hints but the recharging time is pretty long in my opinion. The hidden objects scenes are good, they are not skippable though, unlike the puzzles which they gave you the option to skip them. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1772213719 Since the game is old, the artwork is not like the new HOGs, it is not bad though, the characters design is ok, although prince Mongo looks more like a woman to me. The voice overs are on the average side. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1770634194 Pros: +Ok story. +OK music. +Good Artwork. +Average voice overs. +Multiple hidden objects scenes. +Variety of puzzles. Cons: -No steam achievements. -No Map. -No Journal. The game is on the short side, you can finish it in two hours. I do recommend it to HOGs lovers who loves classics! Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo (IHOG) ENORMOUS spider warning! Save the kingdom from an evil wizard who has returned to wreak havoc on the kingdom! Options include separate sliders for Music, SFX and Voices, Full-screen, Widescreen and Custom Cursor. Choice of Normal or Hard mode and an optional Tutorial. You are a princess whose father has disappeared, and whose brother is being controlled by a dark wizard. You are the only member of the royal family remaining, and only you can save your family and the kingdom. Using a HINT during the adventure portion of the game will get you very specific instructions on how to proceed, so use with caution! We have a bow that stays with us throughout the game, and will occasionally find arrows that will help us along the way. I both like this and don't like it. I like that our Princess is skilled with a bow, but I don't like that some of the things we shoot at make no sense. Speaking of which there is some messed up logic in this title - a pet peeve of mine - but I expected nothing less from this game ;) There is neither Journal nor MAP, but you are restricted to a small number of locations at any given time, and there's not a lot of story to track. Puzzles are skippable an are generally easy-to-understand and complete. Hidden object scenes are your standard find-by-list type with no interaction. If you use a hint during a HOS, you will get a picture popup showing you where on the scene you should look. I really like that we find more than one usable item on each scene, as it's more realistic. HOS will repeat once, but are nicely-spaced with the adventure part of the game. The graphics range in quality from okay to pretty depending on where you are in the game. The game should take you anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours to complete, depending on how observant you are. Despite my problems with the logic, it was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours, and was actually more fun that I had anticipated.
Alright. Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo is done and dusted. in the genre of Hidden Object Games, I think this one is mediocre. It's not bad, but it's also not really good. It is serviceable though, and a short game overall. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3255973180 One thing I noticed is that some of the objects in the classic 'find this shopping list of items amongst the crowd" did not really make sense in context with the game itself. They were just kind of tossed in to fill out the item quota. Additionally, there were instances where the item wouldn't necessarily trigger when clicked, instances where it was placed in front of something nearly identical to it, and instances where the item could barely be seen at all due to its complete lack of color and detail. The graphics were decent. Pretty classic HoG stuff. The story itself was cookie cutter. Evil dude casts spell on prince and tries to seize control of the kingdom. You, the protagonist and princess have to try and stop him. Nothing to, you know...write home about. ;) The voice acting was bad. Not turrible bad. But bad. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3256027401 The point and click style find item use item to get another item to get past a door or unlock a new area. Those puzzles were well done. None were too crazy and all were actually applicable to the story and setting. I didn't really like most of the other puzzles though. Slider and tile matching puzzles are my least favorite already and many of these were quite obtuse. However, you can skip any puzzles you don't feel like doing, and that is a nice feature. I definitely would not spend $4.99 on this. $1.99? Maybe. Included as part of a bundle? That's definitely the way to go. Like I say, it's very mediocre and forgettable, but it is a serviceable way to spend a couple hours. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3256027393 I received this license via my Robilar's Reviews curator program.
If you found this review helpful and would be interested in supporting my Curator group, Robilar's Reviews, it would be appreciated. In Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo, you play the princess. Your father, the king has disappear and you brother who is being controlled by the evil sorcerer is now in power. You'll have to rescue them by defeating the evil Zarrar. A hidden objects game with a fair amount of puzzles Scarytales is entertaining. The story should take you between 1.5 to 3 hours to complete if you take your time. The graphics are not amazing for this day and age but fairly decent. the HO scene are challenging at time but not very hard so are the puzzles. If you get stuck on a puzzle at some point they are all skippable and there's a hint system you can use if you ever need help but as I said the game is not that hard when played on normal mode.
Pros

A nice balance between HO scene and puzzles.
There's a hint system if you get stuck and all puzzles are skippable.
The story even though it's not original is entertaining and well written.
For HOG's lovers, there's lots of HO scenes.
You can choose between normal or hard mode.
A slider let's you choose the volume of the music

Cons

There's no map so it's up to you to know where to go and you end up backtracking but the locations are pretty limited it's fairly fast to find where you should go
Not necessarily a con to everyone but I found the story to be pretty unoriginal but it is well written.
The graphics are not bad but also nothing spectacular and some scene are better than other so it's not consistent.
All in all, I enjoyed the time I spent playing Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo, it was an entertaining 2 hours. It's a fun game with a nice storyline. The puzzles and HO scenes where challenging enough to keep me entertain through the whole game. I recommend this game to all puzzle's fan out there and for the novice, this would be a good starting point.

Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo is a hidden objects game where the evil sorcerer Zarrar has returned to take vengeance upon your family and the kingdom from which he was banished years ago. The different locations are drawn in 2D/3D and characters are well modeled. You move around using icon arrows on the screen. There is no map that indicates where you are. It's easy to find the way between all places because there are few locations and some of them are used twice in some puzzles. There are different kind of puzzles, mini games and tasks to find many objects from a list in the screen. You can choose the difficulty between: easy and difficult but there is no difficult in this game. There is a hint button in a corner to help you too. Depending on the level of difficulty, it refills quickest and tells you which are your next step. You can change between window mode and full-screen, but there is no options to change resolution and the game doesn't adapt to 16:9. Music is good and the enviroment sounds are normal, all characters talk to you and the voice acting is good. The game hasn't achivements and trading cards. I encourage to developers to add them in next releases. This game is really short (it takes you around two hours to complete it) and is far, far away from Artifex Mundi's games, so play it only if you are a fan of this kind of games. PS: Thanks to genkicoll
https://youtu.be/ypD8gdcOiqQ Puzzles appear to be randomly collected and organized as the princess solves the mystery of why her brother is hanging out with a aggressively goth wizard who hid their dad.
This game is really quite good but I am sure this game is older and only released on steam now. Nobody mentioned it in other reviews but there are some games from this publisher with such situation. HO screens are really nice. Items are bigger and easy to see but still hard to find, it is nice balanced. Good story, easy but consistent, nice minigames. My recomendation is Yes for anybody. It looks like older game but it has all the things you want to have in HOG.
Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo is a mobile app-like hidden object/puzzle/adventure game where you tap on your iPhone screen to locate various hidden objects in various piles of junk. There's a typical fantasy/medieval/haunted spooky castle theme, but the most frightening thing about this game is that the developer genuinely thought it would be okay to put this on Steam. This is just more mobile shovelware being dumped on Steam to pollute the place while they make another cash grab for trash. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the app stores. It's unclear why this was put on Steam instead of the app stores it seems to have been designed for. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes "Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo" might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Scarytales: All Hail King Mongo has the unrealistic price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product. Because this is the kind of game you can play for free on mobile app stores, if this is the kind of game you want to play, grab your iPhone and pick one of the free ones on the app store.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
