This game was released on BFG in 2014. It is not bad if you are a fan of hidden objects games or even adventure games as you can skip all puzzles and hidden objects scenes. The story about Valerie, daughter of one of the greatest mages Cygnus, he is the guardian of Neverville and the runestone of light which was stolen. Valerie ventured to find the thief and save her city. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1597179271 I liked the voice overs, they did a great job with that but the graphics are a little bit dated compared to the other HOGs, however knowing that it is an old released game which only recently found its way to steam, it is not bad at all. What disappointed me the most is the lack of map and journal, we need those in every hidden objects game especially when backtracking is required. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1607966720 This game is decently fun for HOGs and puzzles lovers, there are many scenes to visit and puzzles to solve, none of them were too difficult to mention they are all skippable too. The hinting system is very good, when you stuck anywhere and don't know what to do, it'd show you the objective again and give you the option to fast travel you to the location. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1607968634 Pros: +Dated but not bad graphics. +Good story. +OK music. +Multiple hidden objects scenes. +Good voice-overs. +Variety of puzzles. Cons: -Short game (Almost two hours long) -No steam achievements. -No fast traveling map (Require some backtracking) -No journal (But the hinting system reminds you of the objective and fast travel you to the location) The ending was a little bit rushed, I wished for a bonus chapter to add more to the story which lasted for almost two hours.
Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light
Hidden object adventure from 2018. Play an exciting hidden object adventure and solve the mystery of Neverville. The Lightstone that has protected the city of Neverville for centuries has been stolen! Without anything to protect the city, an evil fog has surrounded the people inside. You are the daughter of Cygnus Rastlin, the greatest magician and guardian of Neverville. Find out what or who is lurking in the fog! Is it the infamous necromancer Grimhall, once captured by Cygnus Rastlin himself and buried in a stone chamber? Can you bring the runestone back to the city to stop evil from spreading and save the residents? (Developer) Ahead of you is a good little adventure with a story that, well, is just a story. The implementation was very successful, to my taste. This is where the focus lies, the search for everything and everyone. There is also an excellent typing function. There are hidden object pictures that are very difficult, with a tap function and you can even skip them. There are various mini-games and these are easier than the usual standard of such games. You can skip them. Which isn't necessary since they're all well made. It will be a celebration for lovers and a pleasant challenge for everyone else. By the way, this is a whole series of games of this type. All with the title “Mysteries of”. In my opinion a good old school search game. Super clear recommendation for lovers.
Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light
More reviews on our Curator Page Originally released during the summer of 2014, Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light was developed by Urchin Games, and released on Steam in late 2018 by HH-Games. It’s just been a difference of four years, and we can always appreciate new and exciting adventures! Valerie travels peacefully towards her home, Neverville, when her carriage suddenly crashes while avoiding a road obstacle. Her friend Roland quickly appears in the scene, warning her that the whole town is under a dreadful danger! Valerie is a brave guardian, an example of safety and a proud daughter of Cygnus Rastlin, the town’s powerful mage and guardian that everyone relies on, against all the evil that lies beyond the deep, dark forests. But not everyone is content with such order, particularly the necromancer Grimhall, who finally manages to steal the source that protected the city; a powerful light-magic runestone. As Valerie, players will take the matter into their hands to restore the stolen power, and deliver all evil from the cozy little town. As can be clearly seen, the whole storyline is somehow simple, without any major associated plot. It’s a fast paced adventure, generic, yet, it does a fantastic job at entertaining. Dialogues are good enough for this type of game, and we can’t shake off the feeling of actors reading the texts directly from paper, with not many emotions attached, but they still deliver a coherent narrative. Right from the start, players are set to navigate through the small city of Neverville, pursuing the evil necromancer, with three different difficulty settings, and no tutorial, which is a little disappointing. Next to the lack of features, follows the lack of a journal, and a map. A journal isn’t necessarily required, but a map would be nice. It’s understandable why it is not included, considering how small the town is. Each Hidden Object Scene have two waves in which players can find items in a traditional way, by collecting objects based on their names. There’s a handful scenes, and they all reset for the second turn. Meaning, objects gathered previously, will also display on the hidden object scene. It’s not a turn down, but it could have been interesting to have a change, considering how good looking the scenes are. Although puzzles and mini-games are present, there aren’t many, and the ones included follow the same mechanics seen previously in other titles by Urchin Games. Rotating objects and color-based puzzles! They are perfect for a casual experience, or newcomers to the genre, which may also apply, it’s very family friendly. Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light presents itself in a mix of fantasy with medieval settings. The town isn’t particularly distinct, but indoor locations are cozy and very welcoming. Characters use renders for cutscenes, where they are 2D voiced-over models. Some effects and particles give out an idea of 3D, which is convenient and very well conceived. Hidden Object Scenes are well designed, objects are well placed and entwined in a clever method. They are not extremely hard to find, and give out a very good challenge, without forcing one into looking at every single thing on the screen. The art direction follows the game, in a hand-drawn scenery, with very pleasant items to collect. The native resolution of the game is 720p, and upscales well for 1920x1080 resolutions, but might show some loss of quality for upper ones, such as 4K. The engine is the same used in other games by the developers, which means based PNG’s as game images. This makes it impossible for a proper upscale, but for 2014, it was a on-par quality. The Widescreen Mode extends the quality to support 16:9 screens, which is a useful extra. There is no soundtrack, but sound effects are present, and create the necessary atmosphere for the game, especially at every interaction. It’s a shame considering this is the perfect type of game to use a fantasy-based music, but since it’s a 2 hour adventure, it’s definitely not a deal breaker. Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light is perfect for the casual experience, and highly family-friendly. It’s not the most glamorous experience, but the straightforward narrative, simple puzzles and friendly story, make it a decent casual title from Urchin Games.
Gameplay:
Spiele Modus
In Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light gibt es drei verschiedene Spiel Modis.
Ihr wollt euch zuerst Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light ansehen?

I don't like to say mean things about independent games and Mysteries of Neverville wasn't actually painful to play, but it was clearly done on the cheap and doesn't offer much exciting in the way of gameplay, story, or craftsmanship to make it worth your time or money. At a time when Hidden Object games are starting to break out and do interesting things, it's hard to justify the cost of admission on such a quick-and-dirty job.
I cannot in good faith reccomend this, from typos to silly broken puzzles the story makes no sense and the solutions are so dumb... use acid on a scarecrows hand to grab a pickaxe to dig up shears that are barely in the dirt, i should add she is a scantily clad knight with just a helmet who is supposed to be a guardian.. if she is a guardian shouldnt she have the strength to pick up shears out of dirt or use her knight gloves to pick up a piece of puzzle out of a thorn bush hell ill even give a stupider one, a spider is on a lock on a super low gate, you would brush it off right ? nope gotta get some dried grass, put it in a pipe, light the pipe then use it to vaporise the spider... everything looks asset flipped, a cheap cash grab, avoid unless you like awful games
Cannot recommend. Pros .Straightforward, coherent story .Lightly eerie atmosphere ,Lovely, clean, clear artwork/graphics/scenes .Excellent music/sounds/voice acting .Three difficulty modes (no custom) ,Intricate adventure play .Great hint system (only fast travel available) Cons .No mini-map .Unlockable toolbar .No indication when object in place for possible use .Only fourteen adventure play scenes .Carnival scene did not fit thematically so broke immersion .Instances of logic issues in adventure play (ie can't cut rope with dagger but can with scissors) .Repeat hidden object scenes .Poor scale in hidden object scenes .Instances of object misnaming in hidden object scenes (ie eye patch for eye) .Easy mini-puzzles .No collectables .Ridiculously short Final verdict (3/10): Started off great. Really liked the protagonist, story and artwork. But then the cons noted above started piling up, the story became rushed and there was a lot of collect X number of items which stalled the adventure play constantly (
And I was really bummed that the graveyard was not a separate scene from the gateway.
. And then the end was cut off. As in, I had the final items (
the three parts of the runestone
) in my inventory but the screen went to 'The End' without letting me place them. I got the game on sale and still feel like I was cheated. So no, I don't recommend this game.
