My first hour with Murderous Muses was horrible. I didnt know where to go, I tried all the wrong things in order to do something in this game. And after running around in its art gallery for a while I felt like the developers arent that skilled in 3D environments. The fact that it took me an hour to finally reach the start of the actual gameplay loop also feels rough in hindsight, but it might take you this long as well. As soon as I understood what Murderous Muses allows you to do, I was absolutely hooked though. It's basically like Sam Barlows game Her Story. There is a convoluted plot told through interviews which are cut into little pieces and served to you in a random order. Finding out the backgrounds of all its protagonists is really engaging, because this game doesnt hold back and gives you layers over layers of secrets. Any time you think you're done it raises a new question grabing your attention for another multiple hours. Its plot is very well crafted to the same degree as it's purposefully campy. Whereas basically everyone can play Her Story though, Murderious Muses is built more like a video game. There are a lot of buttons, puzzles and 3D environments. So even though it's basically a movie, you cant play it with a group of filmloving friends over the course of an evening.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I bought this in the triple pack, and out of the 3 this had the poorest review so I decided to play it first. I was rather enjoying the game at first, despite there not really being any "puzzles". Like...one of the puzzles is literally just the game of connection, or memory, or whatever you call it where you have to match up cards. Anyways.... I was rather enjoying it still. But the lack of direction makes it a little confusing near the end, I ended up using some of my interview activations on available areas, and then an entirely new area opens up and I'm all out...so basically wasted my entire 2.5 hours of playing since there's no way I'd be able to guess the killer now. ALSO....there is a game breaking bug that is incredibly annoying in which some of your MUCH NEEDED artwork will dissapear. I had 6, then suddenly 5, then 4. They stay in your inventory unless you put them on a wall. I made sure i took them off the walls and even checked 10 times. There's not many spots they could be. So two of the suspects I got ♥♥♥♥ all from. So....the negative reviews for this. VERY justified. Unfortunately. I really hope their following games learned from this to improve them at least to the point where I could actually play them. I'd love to refund JUST this game, but I bought it in a 3-pack and still want to try the other two. This is making me realized I played the best rated one first, because if that sucked, I wouldn't worry about returning the other two.
A whodunnit mystery where the biggest challenge is not the mystery itself but the tedious core gameplay loop around it. The FMV actors are great, each with unique personalities, but they're not the aspect you'll be engaging with most of the time. Much of your time is spent wandering around a gallery, doing tedious minigames. They're fun... for a first playthrough at least, but start to feel like a pointless commute that adds nothing to additional runs. Unlocking clips involves placing paintings above placards with key words, and spending points to see scenes to unlock police interviews. They tell an engaging secondary story of six muses of a famous painter each driven to murder and the mysterious island of Mirlhaven and its history, but they're not important to the quest you have been given and can intentionally misdirect. They confused me at first, because I assumed the scenes of a character incriminating themselves would've been my murderer, but they turned out to be innocent. What you actually focus on is the police interviews, which give you a simple yes or no answer, three strikes and they're your killer. Into the second night onwards, you have to give up a painting, so you can't investigate that suspect for another night or until your next run, depending on whether you can extrapolate their innocence, which added further tedium to additional runs. It didn't help that I also got unlucky and had the same two killers for all six of my runs. Getting all the scenes and 100% completion seems impossible to me as I can't get the right words to appear, I don't feel I've gotten a completed mystery because of it, but I've lost the will to care anymore. Ultimately, I had fun, but this was simply a risk that didn't pay off. 6/10
As a lover of FMV games, this really delivered. Thoroughly enjoyed Murderous Muses and can't recommend it enough
Murderous Muses

Spoiler Free review I'll edit this review once I've played more of the game, this is written after 1 play-through at 3.5 hours playtime. The game runs fine, doesn't crash or have any issues. I'm not enjoying it as much as I have the other D'avekki Studios games, it's hard to point out why but Murderous Muses to me, isn't as engaging as the other games. I guessed the killer on my first play through but I felt that even making a lot of progress and watching 115 videos, multiple police interviews, I was still guessing between 3 of the suspects, I can see how some players would say it is a bit of a stab in the dark. I'm not a fan of the painting system used to view the videos in the game, it feels clunky and the only way to make it less tedious is to write down each of the 6 subjects names on a sheet of paper, then list the 3 keywords you need from them underneath, this saves the time you'd spend going back and forth between the 6 portraits and the gallery, which on Night 3 becomes necessary with the room being so big. The game is intended to be played multiple times in order to undercover each of the 6 characters historys and the greater mysteries of the island but I'm not sure most people would be engaged enough to do that. I'm still going to click recommend, and I'll update this review if I complete multiple play-throughs and unlock some more content.
Not for everyone but I love it!
I love this studio and this is their most ambitious title to date. The X Files parody really hits well, and I've done 3 playthroughs so far. Looking forward to whatever comes next from D'Avekki
