Mudborne is being created by ellraiser, one half of the indie-dev studio, TNgineers. A spiritual successor of sorts to APICO, Mudborne instead focuses on genetic manipulation and generational puzzles to create and discover all sorts of frog species, with experimentation being encouraged.
It originally started as a gamejam entry for FletchFest 2023, with the theme of ‘pond’. Ell had always joked about ‘what if APICO but frog?’ before, and this seemed a perfect opportunity to play with the concept and how to take things in a new direction.

A portion of the money made will be donated towards national and international amphibian, wetlands, and environmental charities to help keep our little green friends and their homes happy and healthy <3

Frogtastic!
This game has awoken a love of frogs I never knew I had. The variety in the Frog design and purpose are honestly amazing. Mushroom gathering can feel like a slog, but for the frog opportunities it’s worth it. Currently finishing finding all the variants and I am both so exited to finish the game and sad it will be over. 9.5/10
Epic. I love the genetics system, thats what got me into this silly lil game!!
Loved this game, 100%-ed it in 38-ish hours. You can definitely play it at a slower pace, I'm just insane and wanted to see the end quickly LOL. I enjoyed it more than Apico (I touched that game for an hour and haven't come back since, but this game is making me want to pick Apico up again LOL), this felt less overwhelming and the quests give you a general idea of what to tackle next, one at a time. Definitely need a guide/wiki if you want to 100% it (I feel like it's possible to do it without looking up hints, but personally I'm not that patient, LOL. I love puzzles when it doesn't frustrate me, and I know when to look for a hint so I won't hate the game), but otherwise you can definitely finish most of it yourself. Ambience sound is so nice! Really loved the frog sounds and the crickets and just all the swamp sounds. Art is also really cute! One gripe I have is
I wish the fast travel wasn't so hard to find. Like I wish that the game tells you that there is a fast travel mechanic you can unlock. By the time I found out there was fast travel I was maybe 3-4 achievements away from 100%-ing it... And I only found out there's a fast travel mechanic because I was doing the achievement for it, so I feel like it's very easy to miss (esp if you're not 100%-ing). Running around the ancient gateways was the grindiest part of the game so I was bummed I found fast travel so late. I feel like I needed fast travel during mid-game more than late game, bcs by the time I had fast travel I basically only needed to run around to catch frogs to breed all variants.
Otherwise it's a nice puzzle game with frogs!!! Really recommend it if you love both puzzles and frogs!
Very well thought out game, from the in-depth in-game "wiki" to the UI, to the nearly cryptic way to progress (at least IMO). Absolutely scintillating and cute. Also I love the cute froggies May the frog guide my ribbit.

Really good game! I found it a little confusing at first (it's not the games fault, it's mine haha) but the little journal really helps with that, it keeps you on track and points you exactly where you need to go. Once I got past the first couple hours and got the hang of the map and all that I fell in love! I haven't played it very much yet and I usually don't leave reviews until I'm at least halfway through a game, but this one's really left an impression. I'm playing on a steam deck and it works super well on it!
It is a cool game. Interesting premise, many different things to do. Fun to explore, very vibey. But the beginning was very confusing. I spent some 10+ hours trying to understand what's going on. Another part is always, always missing some mushroom or critter because I've no idea what time/place/weather they spawn in. Would've probably lost my mind without wiki, ngl. Otherwise, loved it!
Loved this game so much!! Very interesting and engaging storyline, and I REALLY loved some of the quality of life features that are ALWAYS lacking in other games of the same genre (backpacks and quantum dye saved my life and rescued my grandma from a burning building and gave me a million dollars i love you backpacks and quantum dye) and you don't need to worry about running out of energy or needing to get things done in a certain time frame (no seasons, passing out, etc in this game :D).
