There’s a lot to like here, but I can’t fully recommend it just yet—it still feels like it needs a bit more time in the oven. The art style is great, environments that blend organic cave elements and man(?)-made structures are cool to look at. There's a clear influence from Creatures and Deep Rock Galactic, maybe even some Little Big Planet—all favorites of mine. The playable gremlins have a lot of character, complete with weird little noises, as any proper creature should. Gameplay has some interesting elements—throwable and edible items with various effects, lots of interactive elements in the environment, and probably more I haven’t found yet. But despite that, movement and combat feel both clunky and floaty. After ~4 hours of playtime, expedition types seem to similar, and collectible variety is minimal (mostly just crystals and radberries so far). Unlocking new mutations feels more like a grind than a satisfying reward. Performance-wise, it's a bit disappointing. I’ve had frequent frame drops on a solid upper mid-tier PC, and online play has been shaky too—things I’d expect from an Early Access title, not a full release. Then there’s the DLC—it's priced at nearly 2/3 of the base game, and it only adds one new biome, a few mutations, and a couple new mobs/hazards. It was free for the first week, which makes the €10 price tag now feel extra strange. Still, I’m cautiously optimistic. There’s a solid core here and a lot of potential—if the devs stick with it and iron things out, I feel like this could be something special. 6.5/10 EDIT: Since the devs clearly care more about releasing overpriced DLC than fixing the base game, I'm changing my review to negative. This just isn't the way to go about things.
Prawie każdy, kto wychował się w latach 90-tych, kojarzy małe stworki nazywane Gremlinami. Filmy o nich miały posmak komediowy z dużą dozą gore i horroru w jednym.
Gremliny w kosmicznych podziemiach
Mother Machine to najnowsza produkcja studia Maschinen-Mensch, znanego z serii The Curious Expedition.
Dzięki temu uniknięto monotonii w wyglądzie gremlinów, a różnorodność i inkluzywność zadowoli nawet najsłodsze dziecko :).
OCENA: 6/10

Zapraszam do obserwacji naszego kuratora: ŚWIAT RECENZJI

"Mother Machine is a game that did show me a good time, but falls just shy of being one I can recommend. I enjoyed a lot of its platforming mechanisms, particularly its “climb anywhere provided you have stamina” approach to level traversal, and interacting with its alien ecosystems was often just as exciting as it was fraught with peril. However, a whole host of technical issues, procedural level generation that feels tepid at best and broken at worst, and a character upgrade system that comes across largely as tacked on make it one that needs a lot of work to make it into something that’s more broadly enjoyable. It’s got some good ideas, but it might be better to let this one mutate a bit more before picking it up." Full review here
An absolute banger. Very smooth gameplay with great traversal, lovely graphics and delightful character customisation. I became immediately addicted to this game and found it very hard to put down. A very easy recommend, this is a lot of fun.
The game is fun and is a good couch co-op game but its not finished. Very poorly optimized with stutters and low frames overall. The controls feels sluggish and not like a smooth experience at all. 5/10
Von mir her klarer Daumen hoch.
Wirklich schade.
In this game you explore various cave systems to carry out the will of your robotic benefactor “Mother”. Each player controls an adorable gremlin who lives to jump, climb, roll, smash and eat their way through the environment to reach the end. There are some predetermined runs that are used to carry out the story narrative but essentially you just choose the difficulty level of the cave and each run is a procedurally generated self-enclosed “expedition”. Cosmetic unlocks are the only thing that the “energy” points are used for other than paying for re-spawns during a run. Oh yeah, did I mention that the Gremlins get squished and printed out of a printer again each time they die? Don’t worry about it, get spelunking! Some things that could have made it better: There really needed to be much more levels with a scripted story as without them there isn’t that much to do, eventually it’s the same thing over and over. Once you play the game for a bit you will notice the patterns in the layouts and obstacles being reused. Having only a single slot for a power-up means that you basically choose a health one and it becomes impossible to die unless you fall into an acid pit. Also, dying isn't that much of an issue anyway if you have the energy points to be printed again. If you manage to hit an upgrade station early in your run and get the double points buff then you will vastly collect more gems while exploring the rest of the caves. The other buffs outside of the extra climb distance are nice but aren’t really a lot of use. Ended up always getting the buffs in the same order and just completely ignoring others. Would have liked a system to continuously upgrade and improve the gremlins skills and abilities on a permanent basis, but the game would need to have more difficulty and maybe some puzzle elements to make it more challenging. It would be nice to have a co-operative objective in some caves. The boss fights are all essentially just the “Sister” boss with the same battle mechanic. It would be much better if there was a pool of different bosses to randomise between, each with a different combat style. Could also do with additional general critter types that live in the caves as well. The base game price is very fair but two-thirds of the price again for a dlc with a single biome feels a bit on the high side, especially since some of the cosmetics are pay-walled also. Knew this would be good from the Playtest phase. Was really fun to play in split screen with two players but unless it scales for more players, then it’s just going to be way too easy. Really enjoyed this and it is well made overall but in the end, wish that the scope of the game was greater. The Gremlin Tour demo is essentially Slay the Spire mode, and I’m not sure it could be its own stand alone release, more of an end mode to give a reason to keep playing after finishing the game. Danke Maschinen-Mensch! x o x o
ive been trying to get my friends to play with me but they're addicted to other stuff already and theyre being mean to me and stuff. i'm the.keg on Discord, i'll play with you except on tue wed thu, those are my workdays. 🐄 i wanna unlock all the cosmetics in this really bad, it's a really cute game. oh can i also say, that playing without a controller is fine to me. i don't think the keyboard and mouse controls are bad at all.
