Since april no updates, not even a post, checked kickstarter and flatfish games seems to have a history of bad practices and misleading advertisement, i don't advice anyone to buy this game unless BIG improvements have happened. If you still want to buy it, consider yourself warned.
Game is unfinished, a lot of bugs. You cant even leave a match, they will need to work on this game a lot more before a full release.
Updated Review: 9/29/22
There has been no update for a very long time. They're mostly silent on the discord and the few interactions they've had they promised things were coming but honestly I don't know. I definitely can not recommend the game as it is. I HOPE they turn things around but as it is, I'd say stay away from the game.
Introduction
I'll preface this by saying that I was given a creator key by the developers via keymailer which I heavily appreciate. I've been a fan of the RTS vs FPS genre for a long time, ever since I played a mod that was based off a source game here on steam several years ago but the genre is very niche. If I had to give a comparison for this game to other types of games it'd be an arcade zombie shooter like L4D2, but with each character being a "hero" with their own set of weapons and abilities kind of like OW, Apex, etc but with the caveat being that the game director, the one that spawns all the zombies, specials, traps, etc is controlled by another player known as the Monster Master.
Gameplay Loop
The heroes' goal is to make their way across a map full of traps and enemies being spawned by the Monster Master to get to extraction. Along the way they can activate turrets, build walls to block off zombies temporarily, and find various types of gear like medkits, grenades, etc. The Monster Master on the other hand is trying to kill the heroes by summoning monsters like zombies, exploders, spitters, etc and by activating various traps across the map. If even one hero survives, the hero team wins. If the entire team dies, then the Monster Master wins.
Thoughts
Monster Master is a game with a very fun gameplay loop and concept but it is also a very early access game as well which means there are issues when it comes to bugs, accessibility, and various balancing issues. I haven't tried any matchmaking games yet. Instead I've played the game so far entirely in private lobbies with friends we had a lot of fun despite the bugs and glitches. The game ran mostly fine on my PC (Intel Core i5-4460, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER) and all my friends have PCs of varying quality but all of which are better than mine. However the game did have FPS drops at certain moments like exploders... exploding while mobs were being spawned in, etc etc. The game is far from polished or finished and currently there's only 1 game type with 3 maps to go through. One of the characters (Radcliffe) is pretty bugged when it comes to their abilities and another is pretty OP (Detective). Still though we kept playing and enjoyed the game a lot. My friends and I wrote up our thoughts and feedback and posted it in the Monster Master discord and they acknowledged it pretty quickly and so far it seems they're very willing to have community discourse which is a huge plus for me. While the game itself isn't polished and has its fair share of balancing issues and bugs, that's to be expected as an early access game. I have a lot of hope for the game. It has a lot of potential and devs who are showing so far that they do care and are willing to communicate.
Final Thoughts
Monster Master is a very fun game with friends. It's not very balanced or polished currently so buyer beware on that front. Overall I have high hopes for the game and the developers and would love to see this game flourish. Note: I plan on editing this review as time goes by to reflect my current thoughts, as I really love this type of game and want to give me honest thoughts on it.
Don't buy it first time I ever requested a refund, neat concept but way too many problems.
