About

Mondrian - Plastic Reality takes you on a journey through the Canvas, a mind-bending, blockbreaking dimension where your creativity controls everything. When Piet Mondrian awakens in a run-down art museum, he finds he's able to use an artwork smuggled out of the Canvas to travel back through time and find his other lost works. Join him and his friends on their journey through art history, as you spin your paddle around dynamically painted fields of blocks in a unique twist on classic arcade gameplay. Build your Museum, compete for global leaderboard glory, and create your own levels using the Mondrian Maker level editor. The Canvas is waiting.

Mondrian features orbital block-breaking gameplay combined with dynamically generated elements to create a wholly unique, modern arcade experience. Bounce your ball into the field to pop all the blocks and collect the gems that come flying out. Grow the Stretch Paddle, heal the Breakerball, or slow the Speed Ball by grabbing gems. Grab three gems in a row to earn bonuses, trigger powerups that randomly spawn in the field, avoid obstacles, play as five different artists in seven game modes, and keep the ball from escaping or it's game over.
While all levels are hand-crafted, you'll never play the exact same version of them twice. Every level has up to four variations where block obstacles and modifiers change depending on your chosen difficulty. Backgrounds and music randomize, powerups randomize and move around, and blocks get painted with dynamic color harmonies that get reflect across Razer Chroma™ RGB devices.
Two included editors, Mondrian Maker and Mondrian Studio, let you bring out your creative side. Build new levels quickly in Mondrian Maker by click-and-dropping blocks in seven different shapes onto the field. Open your level in Mondrian Studio to create thumbnail images or other graphics for print and web. Share your levels to Steam Workshop or mod.io in just a couple clicks. Open the included PDF manual to learn both editors in-depth.
Award-winning accessibility options make Mondrian a game for everyone. Control game speed, controller UI, night mode, difficulty, and more to play the game the way you want to play it. Manage your level library in Mondrian Maker to only play the creations you want to. Every little detail of Mondrian - Plastic Reality is yours to control.
Enjoy multiple game modes to cater to every kind of play, from Endless with no punishment for losing, Gem Hunt to risk your score, Arcade and Time Attack with high score placement, and Sudden Death to see how long you can survive with no safety net. Dive into Adventure Mode to learn the game and build an Art Museum with your collected gems. The game includes one hundred levels and there's more to discover on Steam Workshop and mod.io.
Experience Mondrian - Plastic Reality in all its glory with Razer™ Chroma RGB technology! When a scene dynamically generates a color harmony, those colors are reflected onto your keyboard, mouse, headphones, or any first and third-party device in the Chroma RGB ecosystem. This includes all color harmonies that come with the game, and a dedicated "Neoplastic" harmony for menus and Mondrian Maker.
Requires the Chroma app to be installed. The Chroma integration can be turned off at any time from the Main Menu.

This “Lifetime Pass” version of Mondrian - Plastic Reality features 5 playable characters, an Adventure tutorial mode, 5 Quick Play modes, 100 levels, and fully featured versions of Mondrian Maker (the level editor) and Mondrian Studio (the thumbnail design suite). I've known the creator of this game for well over 15 years. His number one focus making great games while remaining independent to create and express Free Artistic Integrity as a Designer.. After recently playing a few hours of Mondrian meow, and I've found it to be quite an enjoyable experience so far. Admittedly, I'm still playing it on lower difficulties while i get more of a feel for the nuance and control of the mechanics. However, I can feel that I'm improving as I go and becoming more adapt with my timing and spacial awareness.. The game play is similar to Breakout and Peggle in some ways, however is ultimately it's own unique experience. It plays well with a controller on PC or via the native controls of the Steam Deck as well. I'll certainly be spending a good amount of time playing this next week, while I'm travelling via train cross country.. One of the best aspects of the game is the amazing amount of customization it allows and encourages to spark player creativity for further replayability. Nearly every aspect of the game is open to customization and sharing with other players.. TBH, one of things I actually enjoy most about the game is that it is just a straight forward experience that isn't merely a platform for more Narrative Based Agenda Messaging that plagues so many other games these daze. It's just a game focused on Player Experiences and nothing more. Everyone should support games that are actually independent & aren't beholden to the insane woke ideologies that have corrupted so many other games recently!!
It's a very nice take on breakout with a relaxing soundtrack, I like it.
Mondrian – Plastic Reality is an indie arcade puzzle game developed and published by Lantana Games that reimagines the classic brick-breaker genre through the lens of modern art. Drawing direct inspiration from the abstract geometric works of the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, the game blends artistic design with fast-paced arcade mechanics to create a unique interactive experience. Rather than simply breaking rows of blocks, players navigate vibrant compositions of shapes and colors that resemble living paintings, transforming a familiar arcade concept into something that feels both visually striking and creatively playful. The game’s narrative framework is whimsical and intentionally imaginative. Players follow a version of Piet Mondrian who awakens inside a neglected museum and discovers that a mysterious painting acts as a portal to another dimension known as the Canvas. This dimension contains countless abstract worlds made from shifting shapes, colors, and patterns. Throughout the journey, Mondrian encounters other historical artists and explores various artistic realities while searching for lost works scattered across this strange multiverse. Although the story is not deeply complex, it adds personality and thematic cohesion to the overall experience by tying gameplay directly to the world of art and creativity. At the heart of Mondrian – Plastic Reality lies a reinterpretation of the traditional brick-breaker formula. Instead of controlling a paddle that moves left and right along the bottom of the screen, players rotate their paddle around the entire perimeter of the playfield. This circular movement system dramatically changes how the game is played, as players must constantly reposition themselves to intercept the ball from any direction. The mechanic introduces a sense of spatial awareness and fluid motion that makes the gameplay feel more dynamic than many traditional arcade titles. The goal of each level remains familiar: players must keep a ball in motion while striking clusters of blocks until they are completely destroyed. However, the blocks themselves are arranged in geometric formations inspired by Mondrian’s signature style of rectangular compositions and bold primary colors. As the ball ricochets through these structures, pieces of the abstract artwork gradually break apart, creating a visual spectacle that blends gameplay and artistic expression. This interaction between player and environment gives the sensation of actively reshaping a painting as the level progresses. Power-ups and special effects play an important role in maintaining variety throughout the game. Certain blocks release gems, energy boosts, or abilities that change the behavior of the ball or the paddle. Some upgrades allow players to extend their paddle’s size, slow the speed of the ball, or trigger healing effects that protect the player from losing a life. Collecting these bonuses requires careful positioning and sometimes strategic planning, as reaching them may involve directing the ball toward specific areas of the level. The level design emphasizes both visual beauty and mechanical complexity. Each stage feels like a carefully arranged work of abstract art where every shape influences how the ball will bounce across the screen. While the developers handcrafted the core level layouts, the game introduces dynamic variations that alter elements such as color schemes, obstacles, and modifiers during each playthrough. This system helps prevent repetition and ensures that returning to the same level can still feel fresh. The main campaign is presented through an adventure mode containing around one hundred stages. As players progress through these levels, they collect gems that contribute to the restoration and expansion of an in-game museum. This museum serves as a central hub where the player’s achievements are displayed in the form of recovered artworks. Over time, the gallery grows into a vibrant collection that reflects the player’s journey through the abstract worlds of the Canvas. Beyond the main adventure mode, the game offers several additional gameplay variations that cater to different play styles. Endless mode removes the risk of losing the ball, allowing players to experiment with the mechanics in a relaxed environment. Time Attack mode challenges players to complete levels as quickly as possible, emphasizing speed and efficiency. Other modes focus on collecting specific items or surviving under strict conditions, adding further challenges for players who want to test their skills. One of the most innovative aspects of the game is its emphasis on player creativity. The developers included a powerful level editor known as Mondrian Maker that allows players to design their own block arrangements using a variety of shapes and patterns. These custom levels can then be shared with other players through online platforms, creating a constantly growing library of user-generated challenges. This system encourages players to experiment with design and express their creativity through the same abstract visual language that defines the game itself. Complementing the level editor is a feature called Mondrian Studio, which functions almost like a digital art tool. Players can transform their custom levels into visual compositions and experiment with different layouts and colors to produce unique artworks. This feature blurs the boundary between game and creative software, allowing players to treat the game not only as entertainment but also as a tool for artistic exploration. Visually, Mondrian – Plastic Reality stands out due to its bold and recognizable aesthetic. The environments are built around the principles of neoplasticism, an artistic movement that emphasizes simple geometric forms and primary colors. The result is a visually clean and vibrant style where red, blue, yellow, black, and white dominate the screen. These colors shift and animate dynamically as the ball breaks through the structures, creating an experience that feels both artistic and energetic. Lighting and visual effects further enhance the presentation. Some visual elements respond dynamically to gameplay events, and the game even includes features that allow compatible RGB lighting systems to synchronize with the colors appearing on screen. This creates an immersive atmosphere where the game’s visual palette extends beyond the monitor and into the player’s physical environment. The audio design complements the visual style with an energetic soundtrack that mixes electronic rhythms with orchestral tones. The music keeps the pace lively without overwhelming the gameplay, helping players maintain focus during intense sequences. Sound effects are crisp and satisfying, especially when blocks shatter or power-ups are activated, reinforcing the sense of rhythm that develops as players keep the ball in play. Accessibility is also a notable part of the design. The game includes multiple customization options that allow players to adjust difficulty, game speed, and visual settings. A night mode reduces visual strain, while adjustable modifiers allow players to tailor the experience to their preferred level of challenge. These features help make the game approachable for both casual players and those seeking a more demanding arcade experience. Overall, Mondrian – Plastic Reality offers a refreshing reinterpretation of a classic arcade formula. By merging the principles of modern art with engaging gameplay mechanics, Lantana Games created an experience that celebrates both creativity and skill. While it may not reinvent the arcade genre entirely, it succeeds in presenting a visually striking and imaginative game where players can break blocks, experiment with artistic design, and explore a colorful world inspired by one of the most influential artistic movements of the twentieth century. is good
I had a lot of fun playing this game. It has a very relaxed vibe, helped a lot by the soundtrack. It’s a unique take on the old Arkanoid genre, with slightly different rules that make it feel like its own thing. In between levels you can even decorate the museum, which was a really surprising touch. Also, the art style alone makes it worth checking out. I love the unique style, and especially Piet’s sunglasses! I would recommend this game to anyone that needs a relaxing escape from daily live.
What a beautiful game and a unique take on the Brick Breaker genre!
