Still only light skin tones!
I do in fact recommend the game as it has a good gameplay loop and progress, and let's be honest: we need more dress up games! But I write this thumb down review as a PSA more than anything, hoping this will have more visibility and that the devs will take that in consideration in the future.
It's a carbon-copy port of the Nintendo Switch version, so still no medium/dark skin tones options!
OK it's a Japanese game, OK it's a niche game, but it's 2025 and not having inclusive skin tones in these types of game is just not acceptable anymore. Having the game localised for the West, in French even, is already good and highly appreciated since majority of Japanese dress-up games are exclusive to Japan, only in Japanese, but making it more inclusive by adding more than 9 light skin tones would have been the bare minimum to be recognized by a boarder audience, an audience feeling more accepted and represented as well… Especially in a game all about customising your character. Come on, there's like 40 eyes styles options but only white skins… It has been a major complain ever since the initial launch last year, but they've never updated the game. I naively expected they would at least add that in the PC launch, but nope. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3565155991 If you already got the game on Nintendo Switch and still play that console, again, it's a straight up port. No additional content, no QoL, no graphic settings options at all, etc. If you wish for inclusive body types as well, note that there's only one based on Japanese standards (so very skinny). I'll still play the game since I've already played it and enjoyed it (but not finished it) despite what I've said above, and my Switch is gathering dust. I doubt the game will ever get any updates to address this, as I said, it's a port with no difference, and they haven't marketed the Steam launch much, but let's hope future games like this will have the bare minimum of inclusivity.

As for the game itself
The gameplay loop is: doing one modelling job, having a day off, doing one modelling job, having a day off, and so on. You're not actually moving around a map in third-person view like in the Savvy series; you select buildings on a map, a bit of point-and-clicky but 100% controller supported. The goal is to be the best Nicola model by reaching the S rank of followers within 3 in-game years (a month is 8 days, so 4 working days, 4 days off). You gain money and followers each time you do modelling jobs. During days off, you can either socialise with NPCs (there'll be a short dialogue) or improve your skills (it's just going into a building then you gain one point in charm, social, etc.; those points help to get better jobs depending of the skill, so better money, better followers gain). The content is quite rich, but it's more on the kawaii side of things, so keep that in mind. I've been able to make rock/grunge looks, still the majority of the clothing pieces and accessories are still quite girly. I personally don't mind. You either use the studio clothing selection or yours during modelling jobs; it depends on the jobs, so it's crucial to keep money in case a job requires certain types of clothing and tags/keywords (feminine, elegant, girly…). The keyword system is great. The whole interface is overly pinky kawaii and everything is adorable à la Japanese, but it might be too much for some people. NPCs conversations are pretty basic and only upbeat. There's no bullying or stuff like that if I remember correctly, it's quite "wholesome", everyone is nice and friendly. Except for the core game goal, there's no pressure, you can take all the time you need to dress up and all.
✅ Pros

Nice and easy gameplay loop.
Everything is cute and adorable.
Very large selection of clothing and accessories (especially cute and girly ones).
Lots of creative freedom to layout the styles you just created (like a magazine cover), nothing is locked.
Unexpected but highly appreciated French localization (a good one in addition to that).
Runs perfectly on Steam Deck, but not 16:10 resolution possible at all.

❌ Cons

Only 9 light skin tones.
No body types.
Everything is unnecessarily overly explained (it really took ONE hour to be able to finally manually save and quit the game).
No graphics options at all. Stuck with black bars on Steam Deck, can't imagine on gamer PCs.
More of a neutral opinion since I don't care about relationships in video games: superficial dialogues.

Conclusion
Model Debut Nicola #3 is a nice introduction to dress up games with more than just dressing up in loop with no goal. The goal isn't deep of course, but the gameplay is engaging enough to not get bored as fast as in Fashion Dreamer for example. It's a shame that the company behind the game didn't improve anything since the initial 2024 launch, but I hope more games like this, with more inclusivity options, will come to PC/Steam/MacOS as there's really, really not much of them in the West unfortunately. 🎮 Steam Deck performance: 9/10. Working great so far but no graphic options at all, so impossible to get the game to fill the screen. 🎨 Art style: 8/10. Aside from the skin tones issue, if you like overly cute Japanese stuff, you're in for a treat. 🎵 Sound design: 6/10. The music is OK, but the sound design of the UI can be quite irritating, fortunately you can turn that down. 👾 Gameplay: 7/10. It’s what you'd expect. Repetitive game loop of course. Bland NPCs. 🏷️ Worth full price? 4/10 – It's way too expensive for what it is, even at 20% off, especially when it's just a copy/paste of the Switch version.
I've put quite a bit of hours on the Switch release, but I'm happy it finally got a Steam release! The port itself is pretty basic. Using a mouse is pretty much all you need other than some text input at the beginning. There's still controller icons everywhere so using a controller is much better. There's also 0 graphics options lol. The game itself is really fun! The primary gameplay loop is picking clothing options for a specific theme (with a Tag system similar to the Style Savvy games), then editing the picture with different poses, backgrounds, stickers, and some other options. You can slowly unlock many more hair styles, clothing options, and materials for your photoshoot as you progress the story. There's also other "jobs" later on in the game like TV appearances and live streaming, but they're more like short skits with some dialogue options than anything substantial. It's still a really fun and cute game that satisfies the fashion gameplay with some decent plot to keep things going (unlike Fashion Dreamer!!). Praying that 4 gets an english release this year!!
I've bought this game on the nintendo switch [when it was only in Japanese] then I bought it again when it got translated to English- and now I've bought it again because fashion games neeeed a bigger market. This game is so good too- I really really hope the 4th one gets translated and added on steam because I'll buy it straight away :>
very cute game and i really find it relaxing to play . it kinda has a similar gameplay loop to the style savvy games but instead of running a boutique ur just doing modeling and other type of jobs! u have to get a certain amount of followers to do more specific jobs and theres the end all goal of becoming a high ranked model within 3 in-game years ^_^ the game has such a cute artstyle and the music is aight…! my major gripe is the character customizer having no darker skin tones! it maxes out at a tan and it’s sooooo dissapointing ! i’m a black girl so i was hoping to make my character look like me ;;; maybe they’ll fix that in the 4th game coming out next year but that’s kinda my big irk with the game . everything else is pretty fine tbh, and for $40 it’s not too bad :0 if u like fashion and cute games i think you’ll have a good time <3
pretty cute dress up game with lots of nice clothes. but the story and overall presentation is lacking. it feels pretty shallow for what's (at full price) a 30£ game. i'd recommend it if you're more into the actual dress up than the story. but be sure to get the game on a big sale, it's definitely not worth the full price
I'm a bit torn on this game to be honest. If you've never played Style Savvy, then I don't think you're gonna get much out of this game unless you have a serious hankering for a fashion game (if that's the case, get a DS emulator and download Style Savvy). However, if you have played Style Savvy and you're looking to fill that Style Savvy shaped hole in your heart, this does the job decently well. I've especially played Girls Fashion Shoot on the 3ds, which is the previous entry in the series if my memory serves me right, and this game is like it on steroids. Now for the negatives. If you're here for a compelling story a la Styling Star, you will not get that. The dialogue is bland, but that can be chocked up to the localization being lackluster. There is enough substance to get attached to some of the characters though. As for the gameplay, you run out of options for clothing in magazine jobs pretty quick (at least as far as I've gotten). Once you've done a couple different themes, you've seen all the clothes the game has to offer. The magazine editing options are a bit lackluster as well, being very obviously stock images and stick out like a sore thumb. Some of the frames have lorem ipsum/placeholder text, but again I can forgive it as the devs are Japanese. It's not a perfect game, but it is fun. I just wish it would go on sale more often and for a bigger sale. As fun as it is, it is NOT worth $40, $30 on sale, and that's honestly enough for me to say that unless you are seriously in need of a fashion game and you've finished Styling Star, you can pass on the game.
So glad to see a good fashion game!
played it on switch before, it's a servicable port. no graphics options and no keyboard icons which should be bare minimum. expensive for what it is imo, but not as egregious as fashion dreamer. it's a cute game, the gameplay loop is quite simple. plenty of backgrounds and stickers and such for decorating magazines. the tag search for clothing is really good. there's a story, work weeks are alternated with a stat raising social sim week. i personally don't care too much but it does switch up the gameplay. lack of skin tone variety would be the most standout 'flaw' for a lot of people, i think. also mostly includes currently popular jp styles, definitely doesn't offer the same range as girls mode/style savvy (or FD for that matter honestly?? 💀) all in all, this game doesn't achieve the same level of quality as the aforementioned series, but i found it fun enough to buy again. a translated, non-gacha fashion game is a rarity i'm willing to support.
I've only played a little over an hour, but I already love this game. It's fantastic if you're really into fashion themed games, like Style Savvy. I'm mainly posting this review to let other steam deck owners know that this runs wonderfully on the steam deck. If you were a little apprehensive about purchasing this like I was, give it a shot, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised just how great it runs.
This game is seriously lacking. If you want to play someone with darker skin and with curly hair textures this game is not for you. You can not change the body shape either. Just stuck with a basic underweight short character. Even with the options it does give it isn't worth the sale price. There are other games with better options and cheaper.
