About
You are the sovereign of a town called Mistwinter Bay. The sovereign you create decides the fate of the town and everyone in it. Decide which buildings to build and who gets to live in town. Interact with your townsfolk by sending them on missions or hang out one-on-one. Each character is unique, with their own profession, personal history and strengths and weaknesses. Deal with international politics by befriending or becoming enemies with powerful foreign leaders. Watch the seasons pass as you are faced with a unique, random event every month. The way you decide to handle an event not only affects the ending of the event itself, but the entire town. Will you become a sovereign loved by all or will you adapt your choices to please someone in town – or perhaps someone across the sea?

Create the sovereign you want to be with the powerful character creator. Choose between a variety of body types, faces, hairstyles, outfits and accessories, with the ability to color most aspects freely. All options are available for all types of sovereigns.

The town of Mistwinter Bay is home to all sorts of people. There are three townsfolk at your service from the start, ready to be sent to handle tasks in events if you ask them to, but more can move in by expanding the town with additional buildings. You can hang out with the locals one-on-one, if your reputation is good enough. Eventually, this may even lead to marriage. Keep in mind, however, that they are their own individuals, with their own opinions, and they may like or dislike you based on your actions. If you are unlucky – or cruel – your actions may even spell their death.

At your assistance are your two advisers – Jacques and Sophia – who keep you updated on any and all things going on in Mistwinter Bay and beyond. Trust your advisers or go against them during random, unique events that occur every month. The choices you make in these events may affect individual townsfolk, the entire town, and maybe even places beyond it.

Mistwinter Bay can be expanded at your leisure – if you have the resources required. You decide which buildings to build and ultimately who lives in the town. Most buildings are associated with a character, so when a new building is built, you can expect a new face in town. If you are ever curious about who can move in to town, make sure to check out the local inn every season to see who has journeyed to Mistwinter Bay.

Mistwinter Bay is but a small town on a great continent full of colorful cultures and people. As a new player on the continental arena, you get the chance to meet and interact with some of the most powerful people on the continent of Hruminus. If you play your cards right, you may gain powerful allies – maybe even more than that.

If you have found your true love, you may start a family together by adopting one of four children. Every child has their own personality and your interactions with them will shape their future – and by extension, the future of Mistwinter Bay.

The price point may seem like a bit much at first glance, but I have gotten a huge portion of the game under my belt and there is still so much to go, on top of the fact that the game is highly replayable, so I could likely get through 2 or 3 playthroughs before I feel like I might need to put the game down. Your decisions in this game matter significantly, and you can have completely horrible relations or very positive ones with many people, based on how you act and what you do. Characters you invite into your town can interact with eachother, and clash or meld really well together. Your resources have to be managed appropriately alongside your town, but for anyone who cares more about the story, there is an easy mode, and its not too hard to manage them.
I really love this game. I like the story, the characters, the fact the Bay really feels lived in depending on who you invite to live there. I enjoy it a lot. My only problem playing the game. Is it is hard to tell who to send to events. (maybe a learning curve for me). But I struggle figure this out. Some make sense. Sent the magic user to help with the magical stuff. But....I mean more like. I had a character at full hearts, been helpful with their side quests. Only for that character to kind of be 'pull a sucks to suck' kind of moment when I need them most. Is there a cue I'm maybe messing. Or is it more of a luck of the draw thing. Again this part is a purely me thing. And more play through's will help me out. Again overall aside from the above. From what I have played. 10/10
An Impressively fleshed out text based RPG
Despite looking like a high school students first project
Adventure Quest
this game delivers where it counts the most. It would benefit more from a lower price so waiting for a sale is advised. + Well written characters and there's alot of them + In depth lore for each country and race + Original fantasy world with some (new to me) elements + Realistic and fun political system - City management is great in the early game, but too easy to hit post scarcity mid/late game - UI is dull - Music is great but not enough variety so it's repetitive Really comes down to the fantastic writing and large cast of characters. I would highly recommend it if you enjoy text adventure games or political sims and want something to burn less than 20 hours.
It has its moments. The best part is there's a lot of choices with consequences, and I'm sure I missed a lot. The music is not great. There are definitely some bugs. The loading times are pretty slow for a visual novel. The writing is pretty good. Some of the characters are bland - most of them appear bland at first, but get more interesting when you hang out with them. There are some characters whose ideals may not match yours (such as woke) but its good you get to do whatever you want with whatever town character. There are some things I wanted to do, like more evil related choices or tyrannical rule, but was hard to find the opportunity to get those. Would also like to have gotten more magic oriented, or somehow make the player character stronger. I would recommend only choosing a few characters and exploring their hangouts as opposed to dipping into everyones storyline, since theres too many and it's easy to get overwhelmed. The main events is where the most interesting story is.
It is ok, but DEI and check box written. The writing is overly verbose and incessant imo. The adopting instead of having a proper kid also super weird, and comes off lazy.
not recommended for people who can't handle the three different types of relationships at the same time. i'm talking about the game by the way.
I had a great time with this game for my first playthrough, and I can see myself coming back to it again sometime in the future. My first run came in at around 13 hours, for whatever value math you want to do for yourself. A visual novel-esque game lives and dies by its writing, and Mistwinter Bay definitely lives. The basic premise of the story is easy to understand, but there's a surprising amount of nuance. You are asked philosophical and/or moral questions about yourself for most of the game, and the answers to those questions directly impact the story. The choices you are given are always framed against the backdrop of the game's lore, and I can't recall a single one that I felt pierced my suspension of disbelief. The strategy/sim part of the game is fairly basic, and you have pretty clear goals for the first half of the game. Towards the latter 20-30% I found myself having done basically everything, but I think that extra time is there to allow people to experience the game at their own pace and that's fine. If you're into visual-novel style games I definitely recommend checking this out.
Exellent fantasy-political rpg simulation. You have to rule a town and prepare it over the course of five years for independence. The main focus of the game is a combination of resource-managment and personal relaitonship between characters with you having to choose how to use both to solve problems. The game is fantasy, wihle some parts are realistic, others are much more high than low fantasy, but overall its a great story. (with some clichés her and their, but never to much) Extremly well done, even more impressiv is that it was made by just two people. Has a great replay value, as there are a lot of events that are randomised at the start of the turn, so even reloading will not give you the same event as before. Around 15-50 Hours per playthrough, depending on how well you do. Price is absolutly justified.
Loved all the void stuff. need another game just about traveling the void.
Game had bay and winter but found it lacking in mist. Despite the minor misguidance, I had a blast playing and would recommend.
