A masterpiece no longer* covered in dust.
I was minutes away from giving it a negative review, and now I'll explain why. Morningtide Motel captivated me right away. It’s a Coffee Talk-style visual novel where you run a business, in this case, a motel. The story revolves around the customers who come looking for a room, offering at least three routes based on your relationships with certain regulars. These are crowned with a touch of horror and happens in a magical world that adds depth and intrigue. Now for the bad, and the reason I almost gave it a thumbs down. The bugs, my god. [strike] There are so many. Most can be solved by restarting the day, which isn’t terrible since they’re short and quick to replay. But in one case, I had to bypass a crash by editing my save. [/strike] Just received a patch that fixes most of the bugs. The fact I stuck with it despite the issues shows how much I enjoyed it. The price is ridiculously low, and it’s a shame it doesn’t have more recognition, so at least consider giving the demo a chance. this game is amazingly drawn and written. i love how different all the characters are, and the fact that some of them come back time and time again, letting you get to know them. there are a few bugs so far, some that impact the experience quite a bit, however considering the game officially released just a few days ago, this was expected to me. this game is more than worth it, especially given the price
Visual novel fans might want to check out Morningtide Motel. It's full of quirky characters with quirky stories through which an overarching mystery about a curse unfolds. The hotel management adds some interactivity, which is nice. Morningtide Hotel seems to be a visual novel masquerading as a hotel manager. The game mechanics are obscure or lacking but the characters are interesting and the story drawn out but engaging. it is really rare to have a game actually surprise me, and i can say with my full heart that Morningtide Motel did. i expected a cozy throwaway VN with some fun motel immersion. what i got was a moving heart shattering experience mixed with an existential dread that I have rarely ever experienced in other games. the worldbuilding and art are absolutely stellar. the characters are fun and plentiful. the endings are breathtaking. another unsung hero is the sound design, which is minimal, and thusly makes the "darker" moments really shine and throw you for a loop. however i cannot recommend the game without addressing the elephant in the room. the bugs. so. so. many. it's not entirely unplayable but i have to be honest and say that the save system is non existent and going back to menu and resuming "restarts" the day but it completely glitches things. at one point i had the same person in two seperate rooms, leading to me having to deny multiple characters their stay. it's an amazing game and please but it, it's a steal, but also report all bugs to the dev when you do, because this game deserves to be played in a way that is smooth.
This game is such an unexpected gem!
what a lobby
I absolutely loved this game!! The narrative in this game is PHENOMENAL - I was not expecting to find myself so connected to the characters in a relatively short amount of my time but I found myself caring deeply about a lot of the recurring ones! I also was not prepared to be in tears during any of the endings, so that was a pleasant surprise <3 While the game is a bit buggy, I think it's so worth playing for the narrative alone.
for something the cost of 2 and a half costco hotdogs i really cant complain, it punches above its weight. its short and sweet!
I honestly was not expecting the turn this story would take, but I loved it! Usually I don't try and get all of the achievements if it requires playing the same story more than once, but I might have to come back to this game to collect them all. I love all of the fantasy species and the variety of characters we get as customers. I don't have a whole lot else to say about this game, but I think it's a decent chilling story and it can be completed in a couple of hours or so. Pretty good.
