Reviews
A really challenging but fun arcade shooter. A lot of replayability for a very low price.
Missiles Away is a compact but fiercely energetic indie action shooter developed by Kızılejderha and published by Next in Game that focuses on delivering relentless, skill-driven combat within a tightly controlled scope. Rather than attempting to build a sprawling narrative or complex world, the game zeroes in on one core fantasy: surviving overwhelming alien assaults through speed, precision, and intelligent use of mobility and firepower. From the very beginning, it establishes a sense of urgency, throwing players into chaotic engagements that demand constant awareness and quick decision-making. The premise is straightforward and functional, serving primarily as a backdrop for the action. Humanity is under siege by an alien force, and you are deployed as a last line of defense, piloting a heavily armed combat craft through hostile arenas. Storytelling takes a back seat to gameplay, conveyed only through atmosphere and context rather than dialogue or cutscenes. This minimalist approach works in the game’s favor, keeping players focused on moment-to-moment survival rather than narrative exposition. Gameplay blends elements of first-person shooting, arena combat, and roguelike progression into a fast-moving loop built around repeated runs. Each session drops you into increasingly intense waves of enemies, with little downtime between encounters. Movement is critical, as standing still is rarely an option when threats can come from multiple angles at once. The controls feel responsive, encouraging aggressive playstyles while still allowing room for tactical repositioning when situations become overwhelming. One of the game’s defining strengths is its integration of roguelike mechanics. Each run offers randomized upgrades, weapons, and modifiers that meaningfully alter how combat unfolds. These systems introduce variety without overcomplicating the experience, making every attempt feel slightly different even when facing familiar enemy types. Progression is driven by unlocking new tools and improving survivability over time, creating a steady sense of growth that encourages repeated play without relying on long-term grind. Combat is where Missiles Away truly shines. The arsenal includes a range of firearms and explosive weaponry that feel punchy and effective, rewarding accurate aim and smart timing. Missiles, rapid-fire weapons, and experimental gear all have distinct roles, allowing players to adapt their approach depending on available upgrades. A grapple-based movement tool adds an extra layer of depth, letting players escape danger, reposition quickly, or maintain momentum during high-pressure encounters. Mastery comes from learning when to engage aggressively and when to disengage before being overwhelmed. Enemy design reinforces the game’s emphasis on mobility and situational awareness. Aliens are aggressive and persistent, often forcing players to manage space rather than simply eliminate threats one by one. Faster enemies punish tunnel vision, while heavier units demand focused fire and careful positioning. Boss-like encounters punctuate runs with spikes in difficulty, testing how well players understand the game’s systems and how effectively they can combine movement with firepower. Visually, Missiles Away adopts a clean sci-fi aesthetic that prioritizes clarity over spectacle. Environments are functional and readable, ensuring that enemies, projectiles, and hazards remain visible even during the most chaotic moments. While the graphics do not aim for realism or cinematic flair, they support the fast-paced gameplay well, maintaining performance and readability at all times. Effects such as explosions and weapon fire are impactful without cluttering the screen. Sound design complements the action-focused presentation. Weapon effects are sharp and satisfying, reinforcing the impact of each shot, while enemy sounds provide useful audio cues during hectic fights. Music and ambient audio are used sparingly, enhancing tension without distracting from gameplay. The overall audio experience reinforces the game’s arcade-like sensibility, emphasizing feedback and rhythm rather than atmosphere alone. The game’s structure makes it especially well-suited for short, intense play sessions. Runs are compact and focused, allowing players to jump in, experience a full arc of escalating challenge, and step away without feeling obligated to commit long hours. This design choice enhances replayability but also defines the game’s limitations. Players looking for expansive content, deep narrative layers, or long-term progression systems may find the experience narrow once the core loop is fully understood. Despite its modest scope, Missiles Away succeeds by committing fully to its strengths. It does not attempt to dilute its identity with unnecessary systems or padding, instead delivering a concentrated dose of high-speed action that rewards practice and mastery. The challenge curve encourages improvement, and the roguelike elements ensure that no two runs play out exactly the same. Ultimately, Missiles Away stands as a confident indie shooter that understands its audience and delivers exactly what it promises. It is a game built for players who enjoy reflex-driven combat, constant pressure, and the satisfaction of surviving against overwhelming odds. While it may not redefine the genre or appeal to those seeking narrative depth, it offers a tight, addictive experience that shines through its focus, intensity, and mechanical clarity. Rating: 7/10

"Missiles Away makes you really feel like a badass helicopter." -IGN 10/10
very cool, fast paced, high action, and robots and helicopters. what more do you need?
Nice shooter, I've almost completed it, but I've died in fight with replica. Upd: I've won replica. These homing missiles are so cool
Has a very devil daggers vibe but with grappling hooks & rougelike upgrades. Many of the same design ques as DD with how each enemy makes it's own constant sound and instadeath with 0 meta progression instead a focus on mastering the games system. It's a sweet and simple game, the kind that I very much so enjoy dropping a couple minutes in every there and now.
