Misery Mansion

[h1]ABSOLUTELY SH*T[/h1] At the beginning of the game everything seemed fine… interesting graphics and the right atmosphere. But the monster?? Ridiculous. It's just a pain in the a*s, clearly programmed with Artificial Dementia. The game bugged out many times, with the character getting stuck in corners and forcing me to restart every time it happened. Not to mention the lag during every single transition from one part of the house to another… clearly programmed and optimized with someone's buttocks. And let's not even talk about the price… the most absurd robbery I've ever experienced on Steam. [spoiler]Fun fact: if you complete the ritual and successfully burn the enemy, instead of escaping the mansion you can go back and check one of the five places where you searched for the ritual ingredients. Lots of lag and I have a high end PC. I tried lowering the graphics and it didn't make a difference. Patience is the key here. You should for sure try it once!

I got this game because I liked the developer's other horror games: Paranormal Cleanup and, the greatest $5 I've ever spent, LUNCH LADY. Unlike those two, this is a single player game designed to scare you more with atmosphere than jump scares. I just finished my first (and probably only) playthrough. I enjoyed it. It was very tense and creepy, and I had a great time with my three hours of playtime. The reason I probably won't play it again is that it's pretty short, and there doesn't seem to be anything different about subsequent playthroughs. I don't think I'd spend more than $5 on this because of the short playtime, but it's worth grabbing during a Steam sale. My one big complaint about Misery Mansion is that there is a lot of freezing and stuttering when new areas load. You basically have to resign yourself to not being able to see or control what's happening for a few seconds every single time you go through certain spots because the screen will simply freeze until everything loads.

Technically this game is nothing new. It feeds on old established things in the horror genre, and it doesn't invent something new. But what it does is to take these very things and pushed them. I came for the atmosphere, and the atmosphere was there. Had a great night. The devs certainly have potential.

It's not bad. One of the more fun little haunted house sims I've messed with recently. Just hold shift and go.
