The game has potential to be quite frightening, but with the constant stutters during a session, I'd be more afraid of that than the actual game itself...maybe after a few improvements I'll get back to finishing this!
I got this game because I liked the developer's other horror games: Paranormal Cleanup and, the greatest $5 I've ever spent, LUNCH LADY. Unlike those two, this is a single player game designed to scare you more with atmosphere than jump scares. I just finished my first (and probably only) playthrough. I enjoyed it. It was very tense and creepy, and I had a great time with my three hours of playtime. The reason I probably won't play it again is that it's pretty short, and there doesn't seem to be anything different about subsequent playthroughs. I don't think I'd spend more than $5 on this because of the short playtime, but it's worth grabbing during a Steam sale. My one big complaint about Misery Mansion is that there is a lot of freezing and stuttering when new areas load. You basically have to resign yourself to not being able to see or control what's happening for a few seconds every single time you go through certain spots because the screen will simply freeze until everything loads.
As a horror game, it gets some things right. The atmosphere, the sound design and most monster encounters are mostly alright. So here's what I didn't like: * When starting the game, SteamVR also boots up despite this not being a VR game. * When entering any new area, the game freezes for a couple seconds. Happens way too often. * In certain rooms it's obvious that there's going to be an encounter, removing tension. * The flashlight shouldn't beep. Kills the immersion. * One missable achievement. Not difficult to get on a second run, but it feels very unnecessary.
I really liked it, beautiful house, i love wood, and the type of fornitures, also the rain, lightnings. I'd add some kind of gun, faster speed of walking, running speed was fine. Also i'd add a map. But great game
Due to the constant lag (stuttering) on my $6,000 Custom built gaming PC i can not recommend this game. The walking speed is more like I'm a baby crawling and running is useless because it is too fast. this could of been a great game but seems like the Devs decided on profits over a decent game was the route to choose. Got it on sale and have 45 mins of play, Strongly debating refund
It's a short, interesting little indie game. My only complaint is that the game is pretty laggy but hopefully once that is refined the game will be a lot more enjoyable. Other than that, the game was pretty fun. I liked the suspense the enemy added to the game and I liked the story.
Good atmosphere and I liked the monster design.
Lots of lag and I have a high end PC. I tried lowering the graphics and it didn't make a difference. Patience is the key here. You should for sure try it once!
