What a criminally underrated game. Literally never heard of it before today and was intrigued enough to give it a go. It's been a fun few hours. I laughed at a silly moment within the first 30 seconds and got a really good feeling right away. The humor has continued to make me grin to myself throughout. I can see some people finding the writing style unappealing, but personally I find it quite charming. The combat is pretty simple; if you're familiar with the genre it's immediately self-explanatory and it doesn't hold your hand through it which is refreshing. The monster recruitment system is super fun. You have to negotiate with the monsters, each of which have their over-the-top character to make it a fun exchange. This, in combination with the monster fusion system, makes for a really engaging system. I find myself excited to find new areas and see what new monsters I can make with the ones I learn how to recruit. The art and soundtrack are good. There are some monster designs I really like and the soundtrack for each area fits well with the scenery. [strike]My only complaint is that I've experienced a few crashes, but the developer seems to really be on top of fixing things and between one crash and the next there even was a patch. The crashes are a minor annoyance at best. The game is generous with save points and if you use them every few minutes you are unlikely to loose much progress. I have faith that this will be addressed soon.[/strike] Edit: I have not experienced any crashes after verifying my game files! I didn't think to do this from a fresh install but now the game runs perfectly. No complaints :)
First things first - works great on deck. Zero complaints, runs like a charm and looks great. In fact - I'd say it's perfect for the deck screen, just "looks right", if that makes any sense. Anyway - the game is fantastic. Takes a bit of time to start the ball rolling, especially if you like to explore every corner of the map. There's a decent level of interactivity with the environment and you get an item for your troubles every now and then. Which is nice. Writing is good. A bit edgy, a bit too sarcastic, but not too over the top. It kinda clashed with the overall "bright" artstyle at first, but it's not a dealbreaker, I got used to it. Gameplay itself is "Earthbound meets SMT". That's it, take it or leave it. This combination is very enjoyable to me, so I'm definitely not complaining. The graphics work fine in keeping up with the throwback aesthetic of the game, though some animations stand out with how CLEAN they are (the entire menu is an animated briefcase with tape recorder for saving). There seems to be quite a lot of content, I have no idea how long it'll take me to actually beat the game. But for the price it's most definitely a steal.
I absolutely love this game, the mixture between earthbound and smt is genius. This game actually helped me out during a time where I wasn't doing to well, and gave me something to distract myself. I've actually made the wiki for this game, and while at the time of writing this it isn't fully complete, I'm getting very close.
A pretty fun short buddy cop game with monster taming. The designs are fun, the setting is really interesting, the puzzles are hard and the hand holding is slim to none. I really enjoyed the writing but I can see some people finding it a tad too raunchy at moments. I just really overall had a good time. For anyone who suffers from motion sickness this one didn't give me any issues. I would really suggest checking it out the demo. What you see is what you get outside of the puzzle difficulty continuing to get harder. The demo which is the first part of the game is a very good indicator of whether or not you'll like the rest. The puzzles are a very important thing to consider when buying the game. It has an older game design philosophy regarding the puzzles and they are pretty hard with very few hints on what to do. You get a bit and good luck. Some answers I felt were even a bit unfair or overly difficult when small hints could have been provided so the player isn't just spinning their wheels for too long. If you like that kind of thing you'll love this game, if you don't I would suggest staying clear. The monster taming and combat aspect has a decent amount of depth. You'll need to constantly fuse monsters and play with the system but being clever will get you the results you want consistently. Battles aren't too easy or too hard. You'll have to be a bit smart and design a strategy that works but its not so hard it takes a while.
Looks good, amusing writing, awesome monster designs, and a battle system that's simple with some little twists. Making a detective the main character was a very unusual but fun idea for this kind of game. I recommend giving it a try!
Its a less frustrating comedic smt, its a steal for the price
Hell it has a demo. Just download that, be charmed and invested in the game, and then buy it already. Creature collecting with a side of dry humor and sarcasm. You WILL be entertained.
Has really unique monsters. Mechanically similar to Dragon Quest Monsters, but more of a Shin Megami/LISA the Painful style and story.
Good Stuff play it if you like SMT. Gameplay is top notch worldbuilding is pretty cool monster designs are peak play this game
