Minskies

"Minskies: The Abduction" is a competitive puzzle game originally released on the Amiga line of computers, this however is the DOS version that was completed but never released. So from what I can tell, this essentially "Puyo Puyo". By which I'm referring to the "rules" present in the first game in the series from the Arcade, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, SNES/SFC, etc. Meaning that you can't counter the garbage blocks that your opponent sends to your play field. I'd imagine that could be a deal breaker for some people who prefer having that mechanic, and might find this game a little lacking. I'll be honest in saying I feel a little bit like this, but on the other hand I can't say that I don't at least have fun with the game. I'm still a beginner when it comes to playing “Puyo Puyo” competitively, but I eventually want to beat this game on “Easy” and “Normal” modes. And if you grew up with “Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine” and/or “Kirby's Avalanche”, you might be more inclined to play this game. But for everyone else who might want something more, there's always “Puyo Puyo Tetris”. Overall, I do like this game. I'm glad it's finally been released, and it's very affordable. *One thing that I'd like to note that I did change the “ALT” and “CTRL” buttons to “Z” and “X”. As I find that's more comfortable for me to control the game.

At this point, I cannot recommend Minskies. It has the foundation for being a good clone of Puyo Puyo; however, there are technical issues with it getting to work on gamepads (at least on my logitech F310 and Rumblepad 2). I tried using Joy2Key, which normally works great on games that lack gamepad support, but even that didn't help. Playing on the keyboard seems to be the only workable option; however, I have found the default arrow buttons to be far too sensitive; perhaps an issue with it being an older dos game originally. This is the first game I've played from Piko and I hope the rest of their games don't run like this. For a good cheap clone of classic puyo puyo I would go with Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, or if you're willing to spend more, Puyo Puyo Champions or Puyo Puyo Tetris.

I don't know much about puyo puyo but my wife and I had fun playing this game, which is apparently very similar to it. Originally played it on Antstream but then wanted a local version so I could play local multiplayer on it (Antstream doesn't support local multiplayer for it yet).

basic tetris of the 'match 4 or more in any configuration and screw your opponent' variety. it's from 1997, originally released on amiga, with much better level backgrounds somehow. would be decent but can't save story progress or even pause, pressing esc goes straight back to the main menu and square one. it runs through dosbox, so taking a snapshot or something might be possible but since it's not a coin-op arcade game, it should simply work properly on its own.

Isso dá uma estética bem feia pro jogo, mas totalmente característico dessa geração. As animações são mínimas e bem simples. As músicas são bem características desse época também, pra quem jogou PlayStation e/ou Sega Saturn, vai conseguir sentir esse pingo de nostalgia. Alguns inimigos fazem sons bem bizarros, enfatizando bem a veia cômica do jogo. O jogo nada mais é do que uma cópia do primeiro Puyo Puyo, mas sem os diálogos que antecedem cada partida e sem os continues infinitos. Jogabilidade está ok, mas infelizmente o jogo não dá suporte a joystick. Sendo fã da franquia Puyo Puyo, não acho que esse jogo seja uma cópia legal. Mas por outro lado, eu gosto desses jogos retrô esquisitos, de alguma forma eles me trazem lembranças da minha infância. Honestamente, só vale a pena se você for rato de jogo retrô, pois esse jogo não envelheceu bem e para quem não está acostumado com essa vibe tosca dos anos 90, vai achar péssimo.

This genre of games is actually pretty fun. It's kinda like Tetris, but you can play either against an AI (practice or story mode) or another player! I have to point out that this game runs on DOSBox, and the controls are tricky at first (but once you figure them out, it's easy). [b][PT][/b] [h2]Um Bom Clone de Puyo Puyo[/h2] Conheci este tipo de jogos de puzzles (como Puyo Puyo) quando joguei Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo na Sega Saturn pela primeira vez. Este género de jogos é na verdade bastante divertido. É um pouco parecido com o Tetris, mas podem jogar contra a IA (no modo treino ou história) ou contra outro jogador! Tenho de referir que o jogo corre em DOSBox e os controlos são um pouco complicados à primeira (mas assim que se apanha o jeito, torna-se fácil).

Un juego al estilo de Puyo Puyo, pero con varias mejoras. Increible musica, adictivo gameplay, y simples pero lindos graficos hace este juego uno de los más memorables de su era. Cosas no mencionadas: Esto es solo el emulador DOSBox empaquetado con el juego. Pueden modificar el programa a su gusto y hacer más cosas que jugar Minskies. Controles Los controles son... ... las flechitas y Alt izquierdo para player 1 en los modos solitarios y player 2 en el versus ... SZAX y la tecla | para el player 1 en el versus (al menos en teclado chileno) No viene con soporte Gamepad habilitado por default. Tienen que activarlo manualmente por el archivo de configuracion. Entren a los archivos locales y ahi esta. Aprovechen de quitar la linea "exit" en la zona de AUTOEXEC.BAT en el archivo para poder remapear comodamente en DOSBox sin estar dentro del juego. PS: Esta es la version de MS-DOS del juego, que aunque igual de divertido que la de Amiga, podria molestar algunas personas. Las que quieren la version de Amiga tienen que descargar un emulador, comprar Amiga Forever para obtener el Kickstart y descargar los 4 archivos disquettes del juego.
