Minotaur Arcade brings you arcade-style games with a modern twist, playable in 2D or in VR for that 80s Tron "inside an arcade game" feeling. Vol. 1 consists of two Llamasoft classics - "Gridrunner" as the arcade game that might have been, and "GoatUp" as a light-hearted platformer that will have you baaing...

Dear LlordLlama & friends, Pretty pretty please release your update for "looking glass" display hardware. I know you got it, you youtube teaser you. And I see that htc vive wand next to the looking glass -- vive support sure would be swell too. Pretty pretty please, been a fan since the 8o s, bring on the holograms REVIEW: Originally developed for iphone, apple deprecated functionality to break these games. Note that these work on vive tho I feel depth is lacking. gridrunner : 8o s wave shooter with contemporary visual splatter. Centipede meets asteroids meets tempest meets vanguard sound samples from time pilot, phoenix, galaxian, space invaders, defender, ... goatup -- platformer with contemporary visual splatter. vertical platformer with major eye candy the goat ascends higher and higher I recommend using a gamepad, these are twitch games. And wow won't it be even cooler when llordllama releases support for "looking glass" ! X0x0, a_usermame
Has what is arguably the best version of Gridrunner on it next to GR++. Absolutely worth picking up for that alone imo, but Goat Up is a nice little addition/distraction as well.
Bought it for Gridrunner , But Goatup is nice to.
Two top quality games for £10 has to be great value in anyone's books. The standout title (for me) is the latest version of Jeff Minter's classic Gridrunner. Whilst it remains true to its Centipede-inspired origins and the original 8 bit game, it introduces enough new modern gameplay elements to make it feel fresh and new - including geographical landscapes that affect the some of the game mechanics. At heart, it's a superb shoot-em-up that's fast, challenging and a real joy to play. The apparently simplistic gameplay has hidden depths that you'll really need to master if you want to get those high scores. A simply brilliant game. Goat Up is also fun (although I've played it less than Gridrunner) and challenging. In terms of gameplay, think 8 bit classic Nebulous, but with goats! Get to the top of a tower, eat all the grass and kiss all the sheepies. Combining great gameplay wtih Minter's off-beat humour, it's a strong addition to the package.
It's been a while since I've played a Llamasoft game and this two for one deal is a nice surprise. It's a little hard to get your head around at first but after an hour it started to really fall into place. The graphics can look a little primitive at first with crude borrowed sprites but when things get a little more busy in the later levels it starts to look pretty glorious with all the particles and colours flying everywhere. At times I was feeling like I couldn't see what's going on but when you get familiar with the sound cues it starts to make sense. If you like arcade games with plenty of replay value then this will be right up your street.
Many Jeff Minter fans still mourn the loss of the Minotaur Project games on iOS, myself among them. Most of the games were quite good, making perfect mobile games with touchscreen controls that actually worked well. Thankfully, Mr. Minter is in the process of bringing these games to Steam as the Minotaur Arcade series. Here we have Vol. 1, consisting two of the best games from the Minotaur Project: Gridrunner and GoatUp. You'll probably find a zillion different reviews all saying how great Gridrunner is, so there's little that I can add to them other than to say that it's one of the best Llamasoft games ever. As for GoatUp, this one seems to be left by the wayside in some of the reviews I've seen, which is a shame. This is one of my favorite Llamasoft games, providing a nice vertical scrolling platformer that is just as addictive as any of the other MP games. The price being charged is more than fair for just one of these games, but for both of them bundled together, Vol. 1 is an absolute steal.
I was over the moon to hear that Goat Up was arriving on Steam - I spent many hours playing this on my iPad and iCade. This version is slightly different but just as awesome and intense, I can see me racking up many more hours. And it also comes bundled with Grid Runner, which looks the bees knees when things start blowing up and flying around... Wow. I am not very good at Grid Runner but enjoy it all the same just for the trippy visuals and ox-tastic sound effects. Highly recommended.
Amazing! LOVE Grid Runner in VR, it's beautiful and a nice trip. GoatUp is absolutely bonkers. I LOVE IT!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yes and an even bigger ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yes if you have vr
Gridrunner is a beautiful, old-school, sensory overload of colours, bullets and sound. This is the first time I've played any of the versions of this game and I'm loving it. It's a total cliche, but it's got that "one more go" thing nailed.
