Mini Hockey Champ!, developed and published by 26k, is an unapologetically arcade-style sports game that delivers an adrenaline-packed, over-the-top version of ice hockey. Rather than striving for realism or simulation accuracy, the game leans fully into the chaos, charm, and raw fun of fast-paced, one-on-one hockey action. It’s a game that clearly knows what it wants to be and delivers that experience with a bold sense of identity. With its 2023 “Re-Master” update, Mini Hockey Champ! has evolved into a much more polished and accessible title while still preserving the ridiculous spirit that defined the original release. The gameplay is built around quick matches where players control a single skater in 1v1 duels. Every match is a flurry of body checks, taunts, aggressive slapshots, and surprise counters. You’re not just trying to outscore your opponent—you’re also trying to outfight and outwit them in a game that embraces chaos. The action is fast and occasionally brutal, with players able to perform devastating hits, initiate fights, or bait opponents with cheeky taunts. While these mechanics may not appeal to fans of ultra-precise, simulation-heavy sports games, they’re perfectly suited for the pick-up-and-play nature of Mini Hockey Champ!, especially in local multiplayer settings. What’s impressive is how the developers have layered genuine mechanical depth beneath the arcade madness. With the Re-Master update, new gameplay systems such as one-timers, context-sensitive dekes, poke checks, and improved goalie behavior add a more strategic element to matches. Loose puck mechanics and better passing controls offer more control for players who want to dig deeper into the timing and technique of playmaking. Despite being deliberately exaggerated, the gameplay rewards skill, quick reflexes, and smart positioning, especially at higher difficulty levels or in competitive local matches. There’s also a stamina system that penalizes overuse of certain actions, which subtly encourages more thoughtful play. Visually, Mini Hockey Champ! embraces a stylized, exaggerated cartoon aesthetic that fits the tone of the game perfectly. Players sport colorful uniforms, oversized heads, and exaggerated animations that amplify every hit, goal, or taunt. The reworked lighting, improved arena visuals, and better character details introduced in the 2023 update give the game a more modern feel, while still retaining its playful personality. The interface has been retooled for higher resolutions, and everything from the menus to the score overlays is clean and easy to navigate. Sound design also supports the game’s tone with crunchy body checks, booming crowd reactions, and appropriately exaggerated effects that give each moment a punchy, dynamic feel. Modes and features add a decent layer of variety to keep things interesting. The Championship mode gives players a short tournament structure where difficulty increases with each round. Arcade exhibition matches allow for customization with wild modifiers such as flaming pucks, neon lighting, or speed boosts, all of which add to the party-game appeal. A progression system using “PUX”—a kind of in-game reward currency—is tied to performance and difficulty, allowing players to unlock various content and track their stats over time. Local multiplayer remains the game’s crown jewel, offering chaotic couch-competitive matches that are just as much about taunting your friend as they are about scoring goals. However, despite its many strengths, Mini Hockey Champ! has limitations that come with its arcade focus. Those looking for deeper franchise modes, online multiplayer, or more traditional team-based gameplay may find the experience a bit too limited in scope. AI behavior, while improved, can still feel inconsistent, especially at the highest levels of difficulty. Some matches can grow repetitive over time, particularly when playing solo, and the novelty of the arcade mechanics may wear off without someone to share the experience with. Nevertheless, these drawbacks are largely dependent on expectations; Mini Hockey Champ! doesn’t try to be a sim or a full-scale hockey league experience, and it thrives when judged on its own terms. In the end, Mini Hockey Champ! is a refreshingly fun, fast, and accessible hockey game that nails its niche. It’s an ideal choice for players who enjoy quick matches, exaggerated sports antics, and the joy of couch competition. The Re-Master update has made the gameplay smoother, the mechanics deeper, and the visuals sharper—making it a stronger offering overall. While it’s not a full-featured sports title meant to rival the likes of EA’s NHL franchise, it’s a clear labor of love that captures the scrappy, wild energy of old-school sports games. Whether you're looking for a quick solo match or some chaotic local multiplayer with friends, Mini Hockey Champ! brings just the right mix of skill, silliness, and slapshots. Rating: 8/10
Very good!
IT THE BEST HOCKEY GAME
Very good game but the fighting is very inconsistent and it's annoying how many fights there are in some matches and i wish that you didn't have to use arcade mode to turn it off because the fighting takes away the fun in champions mode =/
this is so fun the selys are insanely cool and the sla[p shots are sick would recomed if you like hockey and the neon puck is sick
