Story
After an expedition group to locate the ruins of an ancient city disappeared, strange mushrooms began to grown in nearby villages. These nearby villagers who came into contact with the mushrooms began to lose their minds. In time, they became violent to other people. You lead a new team of individuals who are trying to find the source of this spreading infestation.
Gameplay
You start out on a map with 3 characters initially. You have a mage, a fighter, and a guard. You unlock more characters later on. Initially in each map, you deploy your troops, and you can choose up to 6 characters on each map. Because of the removal of grid-based movement, each character is given movement points, and your movement around the map is completely open for each character. This gets rid of the square/hex grid in most TBS games. Otherwise, you and your opponent takes turns moving, attacking, etc. as usual. Also unlike in most other games, there is no waiting. You either attack now or end your turn. The characters do not level up, and each new map you choose new team members. There is no loot to be found, and your characters also have no equipment to use. Similarly there is no option to use any items. This makes it tough because you can get poisoned, etc. There is no tutorial, it would be nice if the developer could add one. There is also only 1 difficulty level. The game features 25+ levels/maps, and you just jump from battle to battle.
Controls
The game is played with a mouse. You can use the keyboard to move and to rotate the camera.
Graphics and Music
Graphics for this game are nice and colourful. The music and sounds are fine too.
Pricing
The asking price is a bit high, because comparing with some other TBS games that are available, other games seem to have deeper stories and more extended gameplay. Yes, this game is different, because of the movement changes, but that really is not enough to completely justify the price.
Verdict
Mind Over Mushroom is quite a nice project that was developed by one person. You have freedom in your characters' movements, which is a different concept from usual. But there is little story and you just jump from one map/battle to another. For people who are fans of the TBS genre, this might get a little boring. It is also missing some elements found in other similar games, such as character leveling up, equipment, and loot. I would like to see it offer more story and gameplay. The price is perhaps a bit too steep, so I would wait for a sale. Overall, decent but with flaws. Wait for a sale due to steep price.
I received the product for free. EDIT: The developer has been very great at updating and tweaking some things that make the game feel a lot more fluid and engaging. It still needs some work, but for the price I think it is definitely a good purchase and I am hopeful that even more features will be added in the future. It is generally a good idea and pretty fun. But isn't a finished game. Camera needs work, turn system is incredibly slow and annoying, balance issues, targeting is fickle, etc. you can't tell how far enemies can move which sucks because placement is very important. So you want to be outside the enemies range but close enough for your attacks to hit, and you have no real way of confirming that.. Everything needs to be touched up a bit, but I think it's a good start. I give this a soft thumbs down, with a little work it could be a neat strategy game.
A fairly simple tactics game but still really fun. I am looking forward to unlocking more of the classes to diversify my party.
Mind Over Mushroom is an adventure in a strange world, that plays like customizable 3d chess. The game has a good AI and makes good use of the mechanics of the individual characters. The characters themselves have mechanics that can be abused in a way that might seem unbalanced, such as vampireing units that self destruct, but I see it as rewarding cleaver game play, and I'm looking forward to seeing how I can combine yet-to-unlock character's abilities to punish some more shrooms. Should be made into a multiplayer. The graphics are simple, but they mesh well with the music and it makes for a very ambient experience. I'v been looking for something like this for a while, there just needs to be more of what this is.
Liking it so far. Fun tactics game with a good amount of challenge. Graphics are simple but nice.
Mind Over Mushroom Review By, Z-Nation
Summary: Mind Over Mushroom is a 3D Top-Down Turn Based Strategy game, that sets you in the Medieval times with Swordsmen, Wizards and other random little creatures along your journey through the Mushroom world. Enjoy the easy to-move controls to move up and stand your ground against the enemy's that come before you. Make sure to guard your wizards will all you got before you come face to face with the other fighters. Pros:

Easy to learn fighting controls with smooth fighting attacks & defending animations.
Has a great selection of maps and different Strategies to come up with during each battle.
Great selection of characters to unlock during your journey to have a great or poor advantage during battle on the selection choices you make.
Cons:

The camera angling could use some work but, the dev has been doing great with putting up updates for this issue and others so, won't be something for much longer.
The beginning character selection can become unbalanced on the choices you make or what the enemy makes.
During your journey, the characters will become kind of "Bland" because you don't level them up nor can you find new things during battle to make them better then they are.
Final Words: At the end, Mind Over Mushroom is a great Strategy game for the price and with these new game devs coming to the market with the updates they're pushing out, just shows more potential for this game to come and get bigger and better. Listening the community is key for Indie games and these devs are doing the right steps! pretty graphics but the battles feel grindy and slow paced which I don't enjoy - maybe this changes late-game but I didn't make it.
This is a very fun turn-based strategy game. The battles have enough difficulty to be frustratingly fun, but not so difficult that I want to quit the game forever. There is a lot of strategy involved. The character variety adds to the mechanics, as a well as the terrain. The style of the game is also aesthetically pleasing. After having it on my wishlist for several months, I'm glad I actually bought it.
great game already, a whole lot of potential for more, a some what steep learning curve, a bit of balancing on certian characters is needed, but overall a good indy
When Mushrooms take over the world, what will you do? Play this turned based strategy game, the battles are just too long. It felt like forever! https://youtu.be/IharAPTvTis
