Cute with nice music, but that's about it. Very floaty movement, lazy level design, uninspired collectibles, generally pretty bad all around.
Before we begin, let me clarify that I'm one of the weirdos that did not like Celeste. At all. I have played that game and actually I hate it. The game simply did not click for me and I stopped playing after a while. That's why I was hesitant to get this game after reading the reviews and finding out that it took inspirations from Celeste. Still, I bought the game and in a nice twist, I'm really enjoying it. The thing is, the reviewers are not wrong. The game has similarities to Celeste, yet it does a bunch of different things compared to that game that will probably make people like me enjoy it. The most obvious difference is, this game does not bother with the story. You just want to find a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cat and that's all. There are no thought provoking moments, no character development, no implications, no twists... just pure gameplay. Second, the levels consist of one screen rooms. Everything you see in a level is the entire thing. There are no extra areas to go to and the camera won't move around unless you use the second camera mode which zooms-in (why would you do that?). This gives you a clear view of all of the hazards, and let's you plan your path ahead of time instead of learning it on the go. Third, I believe the vanilla experience is much more forgiving than Celeste, which is a result of one screen rooms and what I'm about to talk about. While the main character can only dash once in the air like the aforementioned game, she won't get tired by constant wall jumping (Celeste has it as an assist option). I personally feel the game is less chaotic than Celeste. Like, you don't have to do tons of complicated things to finish a level and when you fail, you don't lose tons of progress and feel vast amounts of pain in return. I really enjoyed playing this game. The graphical style does its job well, the music tracks are pleasant to listen to, the levels are very short which is both a good and bad thing (good: retries are not painful - bad: game can be pretty short) and the gameplay was entertaining. But the gameplay changes from entertaining to infuriating the moment you go for the paintings... This game also has some collectibles that you can get in the levels. These collectibles include cherries and paintings. Cherries are mostly placed in fair locations, while painting are always in places that are difficult to reach and get out of. Unfortunately, a control issue shows itself the moment you go after these paintings or when you start going through tight/cramped areas. In many precision platformer games, you have complete control over the player's movement: You press and hold a button, the character moves, you release the button, the character stops. That's not the case here. In this game, the character retains momentum. If you release the movement buttons, it will take a while for the character to stop moving. Now As I said, this is usually not an issue when you're playing the game normally. But it can create tons of frustration if you go for the extra collectible paintings, as they sometimes require perfect navigation to get to and get out of. Overall, I think this is a nice game. Considering its price, I'd say what you're getting is worth it as the game is very well made for this price point.
It's a pretty straightforward choice: do you like platformers? If yes, then you will enjoy the challenge. If you answer in any other way, this game is not for you. If you want to try platformers, try Dadish 1 and 2, Duck souls, Kaze and the Wild Masks, The Messenger, or Rayman Origins and Legends. Don't start with this game. That being said, it is not a punishing game. Every level fills the one screen, and there is a handy-dandy option to zoom in to make some segments simpler. It is difficult, but not in the same way Celeste's C sides or last Chapter were. And Celeste is by far the better game. Nonetheless, I felt a sense of pride finishing it.
A little game that doesn't stand out among the sea of precision platformers on Steam, but a fun enough way to waste a few hours.
A fun challenging little platformer. The controls are a bit floaty but the level design is solid, even tho it has quite a lot of difficulty spikes (you can get a really hard level between 2 relatively easy one) Still really fun overall, I had a good time playing it!
celeste if the movement was clunky and the level design was crap how did they make the switches function this badly
If you like a short, but very challenging platformer game like Super Meat boy, this game is right up your alley. Around 100 levels, each level is on single screen and you go from point A to point B without dying to rescue your cat. Starts out simple but ramps up fairly decently. There are some collectables in most of the levels for replayability. Overall, it scratched my Super Meat boy itch!
