YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Vol. 6 The Lost Gold

Lost Gold? More Like Lost Game if you use windows 10 this will not work for you (i found out the hard way) some people have said that it works on older versions of windows (probably on a virtual machine) and that sucks because this is the best looking jack game to me (from the classics) and i really wanted to play it. so unless your one of the like 1% that still uses windows xp or vista dont buy this.

This is the first YDKJ game that I regret playing. Not just buying, but playing. It didn't cost me much, since I got it on a sale, and it doesn't take up a whole lotta space on my hard drive (though I'll be uninstalling it shortly), but... wow. This would have been bad by 1995 standards. Every You Don't Know Jack Game is better than this, including the one they recently featured on Facebook. (That one might still be around, for all I know, in which case, I reecommend it over this.) I don't normally care to write negative reviews like this, but I really feel the need to warn people away from this title. Not one single aspect of it made me laugh, smile, or chuckle, and the Jack Attack question I tried was simply "what is the __th letter of the alphabet?" No joke. [That might make for a mildly amusing competition to see who among three people could name 'B' as the 2nd letter of the alphabet first, but in single-player mode it is adding insult to injury.) I *might* try it oncee more, to see if the first round was a fluke, but I doubt it. It really left a bad taste in my mouth, and no amount of cheesy pirate-themed bookending can change that. [Note: I suspect this was an early online version of YDKJ that has been repurposed as an offline game. It's the only possible explanation for the horrible sound quality and relatively non-existent production values.] TL;DR: Let this Lost Gold remain buried, otherwise, "Fairly warned, be ye, says I."

This is by far the weakest game in the series: weaker jokes, a limit of seven questions in a game, a weird pirate theme going on that doesn't really work, and an unskippable intro along with weaker voice work. That said, the questions are still clever and there is a certain amount of true entertainment always inherent in the series.

UNPLAYABLE COPY: Got this on a bundle with the other YDKJ classic game set, it played well enough, despite the tinny soundtrack, then somehow, when I tried to boot it up, it chocked immediately. Too much memory to play it or it got corrupted idk. did this happen to anyone else?

The game literally does not launch on Windows 10 anymore. There's no more game here.

Bought the bundle and I guess I'm not the only one who can't get this version to work.

Doesn't start on Windows 10

This is a good game, not the best of them, but it is what it is. People complaining about resolution and lack of online multiplayer obviously didn't grow up in the era of these games. Sadly, I cannot currently recommend this one since the latest version of Windows 10 has broken the game. I highly recommend buying the bundle of almost all the YDKJ games, however. Wish they'd port Offline, 5th Dementia, and Louder! Faster! Funnier!.

DOESN'T LAUNCH. All the other games in the YDKJ Classic Pack work fine but this one doesn't launch. From looking around it seems like this is a common issue. I tried to get it to run on a Windows 7 VM but no luck I'd still recommend the pack, some of the other games are great (The Ride is a particular favourite) but just be aware that this one probably won't work.

It's a whopping 21 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run on modern gaming PCs. The game does not work and cannot be played. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. It was an old party/quiz game, which is fine I suppose, but you can play those for free in a web browser. Why on earth would anyone pay money for one on Steam? Let alone a broken one that doesn't work! Unethically, the developers have left this on the Steam store in an unplayable and broken state. It's the responsibility of the developer to maintain their product, ensure it runs on all modern PCs, or if they determine there's defects and the game doesn't work, they should remove it from sale instead of misleadingly trying to scam gamers into buying knowingly defective products. This is harmful to Steam and to gamers, not just because it's a direct and intentional attempt to scam people, but because it takes a share of the marketing space and visibility away from other games. It's polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuine games and for genuine indie developers who put months or years into making proper games find an audience. So, should you buy this broken game that doesn't even work? The developer is deliberately and unethically trying to scam gamers into paying them the preposterous price of $2 USD for a game they know is broken. Don't give it to them.
