Micro Mystery Investigator: Noir Edition

It's a nice little game, simple and effective. But... there isn't much of a challenge. I've done 21 games (won 20 and lost 1 (only cos I pressed Enter accidentally)) it basically gives you the answer in every game. But, for what it is, it's a fun little game.

I really like the idea behind this game. Infinite detective cases, text‑based, simple and clean. It’s exactly the kind of concept I enjoy, and the developer is active and reads the discussions, which is always nice to see. But after spending time with it, I ran into several technical issues that make it hard to recommend right now. The whole game runs inside a Windows terminal window, and that choice creates limitations that can’t really be worked around. On Windows 10, the screen flickers constantly. The developer updated the requirements to Windows 11, which is fair, but still surprising for a text‑only game. Even on Windows 11, long cases don’t fit on the screen. There’s no scrolling, and the terminal doesn’t offer any reliable way to view the full text. Large cases (7–10 suspects) simply get cut off, and there’s no way to read the whole page. There’s also no way to save a case and come back later, which makes the longer ones difficult to play in one sitting. No accessibility options either, no anti‑blur, and no comfortable way to read long evidence lists. I reported all of this in detail. I would have been completely fine with a simple acknowledgement like “these are terminal limitations and won’t change”, but the only answers I received were workarounds (zooming out, lowering the number of suspects), which don’t solve the core issue. And after that, the developer asked for a review. So here it is. The idea is great, and the developer clearly cares, but the terminal structure holds the whole game back. At the moment, it’s only comfortable to play if you’re on Windows 11 and you avoid the larger cases. In its current state, I can’t recommend it and I finally asked for a refund.

As a fan of "Clue"/"Cluedo", I found this game to be extremely entertaining, because it reminded me of forensic video games, such as "Criminal Case" and Disney's "Guilty Party". I also was involved with some suggestions in my own that the creator agreed with, which made me feel even more special to be a part of the creative process of this game. Despite the normal cases being easy with only one clue that singles out the culprit from the innocent suspects, I would still definitely recommend this game to anyone who loves following clues, search for alibis, comparing the evidence to suspects' profiles, and the rush of finding the culprit.
