Mibibli deez nuts gottem
i wouldn't recommend it to most people, because most people won't be able to actually finish this game, at least not on the "regular" difficulty. if you really want to see everything and aren't willing to spend time repeating levels constantly due to the sparse checkpoints and low amount of health, you're gonna need to play on the easier difficulties. being the stubborn ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I am, i plan on not taking my own advice. but to everyone else, this has a lot of stuff that point to signs of greatness. really unique gimmicks and ideas that I haven't seen any other platformer do. some tracks for this game are REALLY good, but a lot of it is just ok. it has a sense of humor i vibe with, and overall has a real personality that I really enjoy getting to see. that is, when the level design isn't almost rage game territory. it's not quite "I Wanna Be The Guy" level, but it can come pretty close at times. I find that once I play a level enough, I can clear a lot of it without getting hit once. That should tell you that the game isn't necessarily difficult because of the design being genuinely challenging, which it can be at times, but because you need to know what the trick is to actually get through it. It's like a puzzle game at times. A lot of the game isn't really that bad once you know the trick, but it might take you a second to find what the best way to progress is, and a lot of the game has instant death as punishment. bosses are mostly just patterns, some of them are fairly tough, and I don't really have an issue with any of the ones that I've come across so far. bosses overall feel more fair than some of the levels that precede them.
One of the best action platformers, with heavy influence from Mega Man and Space Funeral. It hits all the rights spots in terms of music, gameplay and difficulty.
A very unique and abrasive platformer that while quite difficult on it's normal mode, rarely feels unfair. It kicks your butt and doesn't really relent, but having choices like giving you a full life count refill at the middle of the stage is really neat design to offset only having 4 lives per continue. It's also such a unique game. One stage could be on back and forth crystal cars with wind mechanics in the 2nd half, another has you go through the stage only to play it again with changed up enemies and reversed controls. It's not a game that gets stale, but doesn't ever get so wild that it loses it's sense of identity. I beat the game on Mibibli mode, and while there's a little bit of extra content for playing that mode it's not wholly needed imo, just a nice bonus for those seeking a challenge. Goes pretty cheap on sale so definitely pick it up if it sounds neat!
👍
I had a great time with the difficulty, creativity, and style of this game. Felt like a lot more than just Megaman with a quirky coat of paint; every level introduces a new gameplay gimmick that demands mastery by the end of it, and there's a lot of secrets and surrealist moments. Neither of the two endings I found were super satisfying but it was still a really unique/challenging experience.
Dette er et så sjarmerende og interessant 2D platform spill jeg oppdaget for flere år siden, det har holdt seg fast i hodet mitt og er et spill jeg liker ganske godt, mario kan bare gå og legge seg, Mibibli er her.
WHAT EVEN IS A MIBIBLI? After finishing the game getting the normal ending (1 + 2) and getting the Fabulous ending I think the game is fair for what I've had to go through. Though I do have experience on I Wanna Be The Guy likes so maybe that's probably why. I loved the soundtrack as always with this developer~!
nmiaslkm!
I found Mibibli's Quest after about half an hour of scrolling through steam's on sale $7 CDN and under listings in search of hidden gems. Stumbling on this game was a blessing and a curse because on one hand I feel vindicated, but on the other hand I'm gonna be chasing the high of finding this game forever. Retro NES style platformers are pretty well worn territory at this point, but Mibibli stands out for its mechanical inventiveness and bizarre tone. Like any good platformer there's a lot of really strong level gimmicks that range from high concept stuff like DDR arrow projectiles you need to dance along with to evade, to simple things like a unique enemy or hazard. What really sells the game though is its structure. I don't want to give away the specifics, but it kind of keeps upping the ante. It's the kind of game where by the time you reach the actual ending it feels like it could've ended 3 times already, and with each time it could've ended it adds a new dimension to the game. All this to say it's just a really solid platformer. It's very challenging, but also very learnable, and knows how to throw you a bone here and there. But I think the aesthetics of the game are what make it really truly memorable. The most succinct way I can put it is this game looks like a copy of Action 52 attained sentience and desperately wanted to tell the world a fundamental truth of existence, but it can only communicate through the assets it was given. And I think the Action 52 comparison is apt, a lot of the sprites in this game are stylistically dissonant and bizarre in the same way. It's so unique and memorable the whole way through. The one caveat I'll give is that in the late game the controls gets a little iffy. It commits itself a little too much to a NES-esque control scheme, and as it introduces new mechanics they require some odd and unintuitive inputs. I'd recommend making use of Steam's input binding. If you want to play with a controller you'll have to do that anyways, there's no native controller support. But in summation this is a wonderful, bizarre, deeply enjoyable game, and especially for how dirt cheap it is I'd highly recommend picking it up. But for the record, if you want to find hidden gems on steam it's easier to use Steamdb to search by review count.
