If only my art history classes were this adorable!
After playing Sudoku, Kakuro, Nurikabe, Rondoku and so many more, I was pleasantly surprised to still find something that feels fresh! This one uses a shikaku-style mechanic where you select rectangles and squares matching the number inside each tile. That's literally it! For those with good pattern recognition, this is a real piece of cake since the whole thing will complete by itself. The structure is simple, but addictive. Each completed grid slowly reveals a cat-themed reinterpretation of a famous artwork inside a fun museum surrounding. Finish the image and you even unlock short info about the original piece, which adds a light educational sparkle without interrupting the gameplay. It’s colorful, relaxed, and very easy to pick up whether you’re a puzzle veteran or just here for the cats. There’s also a solid set of options: Dark Mode, fullscreen, sound sliders, and comfortable controls like click-to-paint. Content-wise, it’s generous for the price, with around 11 hours to clear everything. The presentation makes things pleasant throughout, and watching the artwork fill itself piece by piece is particularly satisfying. Difficulty, however, barely shows up. Most mini-puzzles resolve in seconds once your pattern recognition kicks in, making this far more a cozy unwind session than anything else. The upside is that there are hundreds of grids, so the relaxing rhythm never runs out. If you enjoy simple logic puzzles and cat-filled aesthetics, it’s an easy recommendation. The timing is also perfect with Mewseum: Film Festival right around the corner, and part of the Steam Next Fest! super gra 1000 %% polecam
I absolutely loved this puzzle game and it introduced me to this new style of puzzle - Shikaku! I have yet to find more beyond this series of games on Steam, sadly. I enjoyed the cat versions of the art and it actually taught me about the art pieces. Looking forward to playing the next one now!
It's fine. There wasn't any real challenge, but it was enjoyable and the art is cute.
🐾 Purr-fect relaxation for art and cat lovers!
I highly recommend Mewseum: Masterpieces to anyone looking to unwind after a stressful day. The game combines logic puzzles with a charming homage to art history – featuring cats in the leading roles, of course! A must-have for Shikaku fans! Since the gameplay (also known as "Number Area" or "Divide by Box") is based on logically dividing the grid into rectangles and squares, this digital implementation hits the nail on the head. It is the perfect version of the Nikoli classic. Highlights of the game: The puzzles are easy to learn but remain motivating throughout. It’s incredibly satisfying to watch the masterpieces fill with color piece by piece. The atmosphere is wonderfully enhanced by the 20 classical music tracks, which were specially selected to fit the game, and the cutely reimagined artworks like the "Mona Lisa" or "The Scream." This creates a very calming mood. Performance & Features: Additionally, the game is very user-friendly thanks to features like a helpful hint function. You can really tell that the developer did a great job here: The game runs perfectly smooth without any bugs, and all Steam achievements pop up without any issues. Playtime & Replay Value: It took me about 10.4 hours to complete, though depending on your puzzle-solving speed or eye for detail, you might need a bit more or less time. It's also great that the game offers a certain replay value, as it's fun to tackle the tricky puzzles again after a while.
Verdict:
Overall, it’s an absolute feel-good title. If you like cats and puzzle games, you can't go wrong here! I give the game a solid 8 out of 10. A total recommendation for all puzzle fans!
P.S.: If anyone knows of other good Shikaku games, please let me know!
