Mercury Blue: Mini Episode came across the ethereal surface of my existential wooden desk not too long ago. Or at least, it caught my attention while sitting there. As a free title on Steam, there is already no reason not to try it out, but what is Mercury Blue: Mini Episode exactly?
Story
Mercury Blue: Mini Episode is the whimsical entry to what will eventually be an episodic series. As an intro, this was the perfect length at about a half hour for a full playthrough and did a great job of introducing us to our protagonists, Jake Hunter and his robotic sidekick, FU-2; while also effectively giving us a solid antagonist and a great reason to look forward to the episodic game. The story was mostly filled with simple humor, but in the brief time we have with the game, also sets the universe up quickly and and coherently. If you are familiar with the older point and click classics like the Monkey Island series, you'll have a good idea what you are getting into here. Everything was funny and made perfect sense contextually and actually. 8 out of 10
Gameplay
The gameplay in Mercury Blue: Mini Episode is pretty simplistic, point and click fare, albeit with the inclusion of some minor shooter sections, which did a great job of subtly breaking up the pace and keeping you involved the whole time. Beyond this and simple object interactions for the purpose of world building, there really isn't much to report. This game does what it intends to, and does it immaculately. 10 out of 10. I can find no flaws with the gameplay.
Audio
Mercury Blue: Mini Episode features appropriately whimsical voice acting done to perfection, and a nice sampling of music and sounds that fit perfectly within this comedic and yet Star Trekk/Firefly-ish motif. 8 out of 10
Graphics
Feel free to peruse the many screens I took while playing this game. Everything carries what is actually fairly surprising depth and detail with lush and campy art with an eye towards exaggeration in humorous ways at times, while also providing classic 50's era sci-fi minimalism. An odd but effective duality. 9 out of 10
Verdict
As mentioned in my intro, Mercury Blue: Mini Episode is free to play, so there is no reason not to try it out, but thankfully, it's also quite good. Just a fun, casual experience that you won't regret. 8.75 out of 10
If you found this review helpful and would be interested in supporting my Curator group, it would be appreciated. Short (took me 30 min's) & Easy Point & Click Game with a couple of Sniper-Rifle Shooting Areas. OK Story, kind of like a Prequel to a larger story which is hopefully being made. Achievements won't count towards your overall stats on your Profile though. Since it's FREE you might as well give it a try if you like Point & Click Games.
(a mini episode to showcase what will eventually be a five part episodic point and click) Pros: - Funny - Free - Good voice acting, and many things are actually voiced - Simple and enjoyable gameplay Neutral: - Short 40 minute game - Art is slightly pointy, as in not very polished - Decent references to popular gaming culture Cons: - Nothing really, didn't experience any bugs - Needs some fixes to grammar Personal Rating: 4/5

I had a blast with this short. Really fun, made me laugh what more do you want in a game? Really looking forward to more in the future.
This is a short game that is good for achievement hunters or for those peeps who want to kill time. I think this game is like a preview of a full version game that hasn't been released yet. (Hopefully they don't add more achievements to this current episode!) 100% achievement?: YES! Within 1 hour. If you are fast, i think 30 mins is enough. Content? Not really. If content is important for you, you can skip this game for now. (Until the full version is out, if there even is.) In game transaction / Microtransaction? Nope, it is 100% free. Music & Sound? Nothing really interests me. Children friendly? No reason to - not an educational game + why do kids need achievements? I suck in games. Can I play this and get 100% achievements? YES! This game is quite ♥♥♥♥♥♥-proof :D (AHEM! I am the president of "Suck-In-Games-But-Still-Wanna-Play Club") Playing Tip For Members Of My Club:
After you have killed the queen, please DO NOT put the loaded rifle with scope back to the tripod! Really retarded move - I stupidly did this and was stuck in the game (unable to exit hence had to restart from previous save point). SIGH
P/S: Recruiting members for my club! If you are bad in playing games but you still wanna play, add me as friend! :) *high five*
Will this game make you feel blue?
Mercury Blue: Mini Episode is a test product that sets up the premise for a larger project. You play from different perspectives of a human and a robot (with an engine head and a GLaDOS face, but with Wheatley mannerisms), which is a plus, but may be off-putting to some. Problems I had with this product? Animations were kinda' rough around the edges and often came off as unpolished....namely after an alien resembling the barnacles from Half Life tries to eat the robot. The models also felt like they were from the mid-90's and not in a good way. The models felt awkward as they were animated, though movement seems fine...talking or doing anything else however is another story. I thought the humor was okay, but some of it is kind of forced. The humor needs to feel natural rather than needing an excuse to bleep some curses. Other than that, the writing seems fine. Is Mercury Blue: Mini Episode for you? Well, it's a free point-and-click game that won't take you an hour to finish and you get some easy achievements. I'd say to go for it, but not to expect anything serious. It's almost as if the game knows it's not something serious, so it doesn't take itself seriously...though it does have some backstory that's supposed to feel deep, I can only find it comical in a bad way. It's a decent test project, but I expect the full product to be much higher quality than this. 5/10 A decent time waster if you're looking for an aspiring project.
[HEADS UP: This game has a (pretty bad) shooting sequence at one point, and for myself and others in the Discussion it failed to work correctly with a high hz monitor. I forced 30FPS and it worked just fine (didn't need to lower the hz on my monitor). (Second shooting sequence works even with 30FPS limitation removed.) YOU CAN'T SAVE DURING THE SHOOTING SEQUENCE, so if you haven't saved up until that point you're stuck restarting. Learned that the hard way.] Mercury Blue: Mini Episode... + it's free ~ while it has achievements and is an easy 100%, it won't count towards your Perfect Games so just fyi - buggy, as noted above - "stay tuned for episode 1 in 2019!" it proclaims once you finish it - two poor shooting sequences (adding these kinds of things to adventure games never works!) - it's not funny, except in a "how embarrassing" sort of way - what it attempts to set up is unmemorable Except as a curiosity, this is best avoided. (I'm a little blown away that it's currently Very Positive. I usually recommend freebies just for being free, but...)
