just finished it for the first time in like 15 years. i know some people have technical issues - for me it aged perfectly, first time launch it just opened at my monitor refresh rate in widescreen, no mouse issues, no stuttering, ran flawlessly. its so peak, THE war campaign. very unique gunplay with cool difficulty design, you can't just straight up rambo a level. you can't fully rely on your weapon shots to land with 100% accuracy, and if you stick ur butt out without thinkin it gon get smashed real fast by 10 horny vietnamese boys. BUT you still feel like a one man army. amazing level design with a lot of variety, you got all iconic vietnam war guns as well, all most important historic battles, great voice acting, some funny squad dialogue. there's a pretty cool personal story where you get to know a soldier, his family and squad through letters and conversations. the soundtrack is GOATED still (as it should be, it was a great era of music). it also doesn't demonize or glorify any of the sides of the conflict, just tells it how it was. americans burn down villages out of personal revenge masquerading it as a tactical decision while north vietnamese army gen*cide Catholics, pretty grueling stuff the only reason it didn't rival COD1 at the time is the fact that USA lost this war, so they don't like talking about it. cope.
Men of Valor si libuje v plýtvání hráčova času. Ale ještě předtím si užijete fade-in na posmrtnou obrazovku číslo 1, poté fade-out, fade-in na obrazovku číslo 2, fade-out, a až poté se můžete vrátit zpět do hry.
i remember playing this game when i was a little kid at my cousin house. Never beat it so i figured it would spin the block decades later. I can say that this game is fun at first but as you progress throughout you notice alot of jank and how unnecessarily hard the game is at certain point for no reason. i always knew it was a bootleg call of duty but it's kind of on par with the history channels battle for the pacific in quality.
very impressed by the voice acting existing but less impressed by it saying to throw a smoke grenade at a gun turret hill that is constantly shooting at you but there is no npc and it can always see you and damage you and theres no smoke grenades in your inventory and no smoke grenade button but it does play the song calafornia dreaming on the radio and say racial slurs so thank you vivendi for another classic refunded however
I am no stranger to Men of Valor, first playing a demo around 2010's off a CD that comes off a Game/Tech magazine, downloading it for small price of nothing from some offbrand site & completing it then & years later after finding out that there is a steam release decided to give it another shot and see if it is as good as I remember or if I have been wearing several rows of rose tinted glasses and as you can see by how I am not recommending the game you can tell it is in fact the latter. It has been a while since I have played Men of Valor as such there are things that I should disclose, such as whether I experienced the multiplayer & what not & no I did not get to play the multiplayer of this game, I used to play this game previously on normal years before buying it on steam & as such I have decided to cut myself some slack & play it on easy as I have already beaten it before & see no reason not to, but if YOU are reading this & still haven't played this game yet but are willing to put up with it & play it for whatever reason, please do yourself a favor & set the difficulty to easy as well from my own experience any enemy encounter that causes damage to you will be a coinflip on whether you between bullets that hit you being made of sawdust or anti-matter. However, if you're still ok with being killed off because realism or something the game still has an outdated checkpoint system from which you could clear one area, go to the next but because of taking damage you might die to a gust of wind in the next area because of a bad checkpoint. I might as well list off the good parts of the game and why you should consider playing: -Decent Vietnam war setting, the jungles that you get to explore aren't mind blowing but are pretty good for the time that the game was released at (2004) -The music is good...personal opinion, it's not groundbreaking or anything but could stick to you if you're fan of Vietnam war as it fits well & main menu definitely sets the tone of the game and what is it about, the rest of the soundtrack felt more as a filler to fight in select areas more than anything. -The game is challenging at times in a right way... sometimes, gonna get to the "other times" in a bit. -There is a story in a game which tackles racism & what was it like being a US soldier at that period. I haven't really kept the track of it as difficulty ramped up & I won't bother to explain it/say if it's good or not but it's there. -Personal letters-in between the missions that the player does, the game starts & ends with player's character Dean Shepherd sending a letter to someone (usually to his family/parents) or the fact that every time that player dies a letter to his parents are sent to let them know of his fate. -As the Vietnam war lasted around 20-ish years, technology changed and as such your previous rifles would be changed to M16's in later missions just like it was in reality which is a nice touch. -The Enemies don't actually speak Vietnamese ,I think...- Most of time you encounter enemies, they don't actually respond in the language of their region but rather in awfully spoken English with maybe probably somewhat Asian accent. Lines I managed to hear were "Die Amerikan Die!", "Leave my country!" or "F@-k you *???*". And I just found a post of someone saying that the game has enemies speaking Vietnamese very well to the point it is scary and I could have just misheard all of this. If I'm wrong then point to the game to actually putting in the effort of accurate enemy voice lines. -Sniper rifle is really good- You only get to use a sniper rifle for 2 times in the entire game & for those 2 times it was pretty good and satisfying to say NO to almost any enemy in your sight by sending them to god with one shot from a safe distance, game would have been much better if the player could have it for more than just those 2 times. Now about the bad parts of the game: -You are made of paper, no matter what- Men of Valor has one of if not the worst, one of the worst health systems across the games that I have ever played. On top of them rolling a dice on how much you're going to be ripped apart, when you take damage (from bullets/rocket/projectiles, you cannot heal from flame that either enemy tanks fire or from the fire from the obstacles),your health is lowered but you can bandage it up quickly by either standing still or not as quickly by moving around to restore some of it. Problem comes when you can't aim, & you really NEED to aim to kill most of the enemies as most rifles are inaccurate (unless you are wielding a sniper rifle) as such you can get in cycle of standing still trying to heal up while also being in a bad spot only because it has somewhat decent view of the enemy for you to shoot but you still can't aim well so you get shot again and cycle repeats until you die. Now before you say something along the lines of skill issue, keep in mind this is only considering if it's just one enemy in a game where you can come across around 270 or more across the whole campaign, that decided to lock onto you instead of on bot teammates and accuracy is crucial in this game. Speaking your teammates... -Bot teammates suck 90% of the time- The best use of your bot teammates is that they will serve as a distraction for the enemies as the only time I've seen them get kills is when they got 5 meters close to them. Other time, they will fire from afar and probably miss every shot,if they don't take too much damage at which when they do they will take their time patching themselves up and continue try and distract the enemy instead of doing something useful as giving you ammo (which they have infinite amount) or med kit/healing item of some kind which is something you REALLY need. They even do animation which would imply that you could help them as they call out for help but in reality you can't do anything other than shooting the enemies in your path. -Checkpoint system sucks- already explained it so I won't repeat myself, next point. -No skipping the death screen option- You can't skip death screen for every death,if there was an Iron mode with only one life this would have been a nice addition adding more weight for dying in that mode but in this game even on easy mode you die multiple times the death screen even though it changes with each mission it just sucks to wait around 10 seconds with each death. -You can't run!-No, literally you can't run in this game no matter what. You are always stuck at snail speed which it is tiring as nothing you do will make you go faster and most of the time the game will make you go slower in fact. -Puddle = always made of tar- Doesn't matter how deep the waters are that you come across, it will slow you all the same which while it may be a nit pick but it's really annoying with how slow you are already. -Indecisive existence of enemy weapons- While I don't want to spoil what happens in the last level, the worst part of it is after all of a sudden enemy weapons stop dropping at most crucial moment. This also goes for all the previous levels as some strong weapons such as RPG's stop existing after you kill certain enemies. That's all I can think of right now but I could probably remember other things that made this game suck for me. My best advice for playing this game would be to be super patient, to aim well & go for headshots. Best get this game at discount.
i like it
A punição desse jogo é excessiva e simplesmente me encheu o saco. To indo na timing errado?
I am still playing this game and IT IS ICREDIBLE!!! It can be frustrating because their is no quick saves but, the amount of strategy you develop will help you along the way. if they were to just improve just a few minor details...this would have been a classic like Far Cry 1 I am definately gonna play it a few more times
