Maze of the Lich is all about picking up different items and using those items to craft the tools you need to solve the puzzle. The challenge is looking ahead, seeing what you need to open, what order you'll be able to pick up the items, and what recipes you have available. It almost feels a bit like chess, with that "If I do this then X happens, then either A or B happens, but if I do Y..." feel. There's no real-time mechanical challenges and you can undo any action, so you can take the game at your own pace. This is great when you're first leaning the recipes and the mechanics, but when you pick up skill it's satisfying to blow through a complex puzzle in seconds.
I was fortunate enough to be an early tester of this game so I received a free copy, but I highly recommend giving it a try if you enjoy puzzle games. There are a lot of puzzles in this game that will make your head scratch and with the "endless mode" after you finish the campaign you have a lot of replayability. One of my favorite aspects of this game is that you can disassemble items into their base elements, and recraft them almost endlessly into other items in order to figure out the puzzles. Another thing is the fact you have an "undo" button that allows you to essentially ctrl+z any of your previous mistakes, which can make the late game a bit more forgiving.
This was a fun game, and I think folks who like puzzles would really enjoy Maze of the Lich. Some of the later levels were incredibly challenging. I got stuck a couple of times, but enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how to get through the higher levels. The lore is pretty cool too and keeps you engaged. Overall I'd recommend this game to the puzzle people out there. I might even consider playing the endless mode now that I've finished the game!
