I wish I could love this app. It's so close to being what I need. As far as a sculpting app, it's good so I'm giving it the thumbs up. What it needs, though, is the ability to modify imported 3d models. A friend of mine saw me using it and asked, 'hey, can I edit an STL in there?'. I had to tell him 'No'. He said 'Oh.' and he never purchased it. I do a lot of 3d modelling for printing. The idea that I could take a model I've built in Fusion360 or even Tinkercad and get a real close look in VR and be able to fix gaps, cracks, surface imperfections, etc, would be a game changer. Seriously, I'd pay a yearly sub for that. The devs in the forums have implied that this is being considered as a feature but, even outside 3d printing, this feature would be fun for users who don't even print. They could pull in something from thingiverse like a batman statue , make it lifesized, and put a tutu on him. Please oh please consider implimenting imported 3d model modification.
quickly becoming one of my favorite things to do in VR. i'm an aspiring video game designer and have recently been making leaps and bounds progress with blender but using the sculpting tools in MasterpieceVR feels amazing and it's really fun to use for what should amount to work. I recently exported, as an .obj for blender, my first sculpted model that was an ugly goblin in battle armor and i was really happy with it. it popped right into blender on import and i could further edit the mesh and add materials. i'm curious to see how much i can actually get done with this app and am very excited to add it to my work flow in any capacity. between this for organic sculpting and blocks for hard surface modeling, making VR assets for use in VR games from within VR games is rapidly becoming my reality :D

Was good software until the Devs ditched it to go for the subscription route. They had the opportunity to build on something that was good in the first place but.. Nope just ditch it and start copying adobe and other art software that crush creativity and expect you to be rich just to regularly use the program, For this reason only I can't recommend buying. At the very least you CAN use it for free, but have to be a payed user to export, Like how you can learn Maya as a student and then get cold booted into the real world and are expected pay every nickle to your name. :/ I get the thought process, "You'll make so much money off of our tools that we need a cut" but we all know plenty of smart talented people that will never be paid a cent for the art they make. Ultimately the idea to monetize like this only benefits those who get lucky and end up paid for their work and the studio who make bank off artists hoping to hit it big. ---- A slight bright side is the Monthly payment version lets you use it for non-commercial use for free. Not exactly as good a a One time payment and let you use the software you Purchase. Unfortunately that is the way this industry works, Teach people how to use your software for free the ring every dime they can out of you when you need it. I had hoped this software was different.
I purchased this as an attempt to not have to fully learn modeling in blender, and im convinced it could become a very powerful program for modeling and sculpting in VR currently it is still lacking a few features for precision modeling, but its amazing how quickly you can create something that doesnt look half bad. Pros: -Super Intuitive controls and menu system -great mirror function for symetrical sculpting -Nice set of sculpting tools -Runs very smoothly -ability to paint directly on models for reference -can import reference images directly into VR sculpting space and resize as necessary -Can export models as OBJ or FBX Cons: -needs an XYZ movement gizmo -no ability to view wireframe within the program -Cannot snap reference images to my knowledge -the "Resolution" for scaling the model is a little confusing (where viewing the wireframe would be helpful) -no layer system (would be fantastic to be able to model a character then switch to a separate layer to sculpt clothing or accessories) -overall just needs more tools for viewing info about the sculpt like poly count and file size within the program despite the cons this is still a very impressive program for sculpting in VR and a blast to just sit in and sculpt away for hours
This is abandonware at this point. They've created a studio version which combines this program and a rigging programs. The studio version requires a monthly fee to be able to export models.
I would be hesitant to recommend this program if it was five dollars. For a software that's being marketed and presented as a legitimate tool for professionals (competing with the Occulus Medium price tag of 29.99), the amount of basic, expected features that are missing is absolutely inexcusable. Fun features that are completely missing include: - The ability to scale your brush on a single axis - The ability to scale ANYTHING on a single axis - Layers - The ability to sculpt anything more detailed than an in game model from the Wii U The marketing is misleading. Over half the models shown are composed exclusively of premade objects being stuck together like LEGOs. If you're an artist who wants to get any presentable work done, steer clear. If it was 10 bucks and you just wanted to use it as a toy to mess around and make quick sloppy models for fun, I suppose it works, but because of the hefty price tag, there's absolutely ZERO reason to not purchase a much more capable program instead.
Importing meshes... can't edit them... resolution sculpting... NOPE... scaling... NOPE... I would like my money back please.
DO NOT BUY! The developer have NOT made this compatible with Valve Index Controllers or SteamVR in general. There is one setting called "Steam". If you enable it the whole Menu isn't viewable in VR anymore, it is getting rendered but incorrectly so it's not only visible in one eye only and most of the interface is out of the view anyway. The smaller you go with the "clay sculp thingy" the less quality/resolution you get. It looked HORRIBLE. This app is worth maybe 5 € but definitely not 26,50 €.
Was passable, but they removed many of the tools that where useful. No layers, RGB scale on the colors (thanks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I'm color blind).
sadly, VR sculpting isn't really there yet. So right now I have to give MasterpieceVR a thumbs down, but this might change depending on what the devs add. here's some issues I have with the software: - Masterpiece VR doesn't have layers or multiple object support - saving sometimes freezes MasterpieceVR for a minute or so - sculpting can be pretty laggy sometimes (on great hardware), most often happns when you start sculpting - pasting your selection somewhere else is really laggy, and the mesh is offset from the controllers, so you have to fix that before pasting (trying to kitbash means MasterpieceVR freezes up each time you paste something) - you also can't keep the "load" window open, for, say kitbashing your previous sculpts into the scene also, zBrush like brushes would be nice, different brushes that build up on top of an existing mesh/sculpt, there's some already, like the bulge brush, but they are pretty basic, and quite different to essential zBrush brushes like "claytubes", "clay" and so on things I do like is the Beta tools, like guides and transformable brush! super useful! I'll keep using Masterpiece VR and update this review as time goes on. edit: someday I'll update this..
