My review is based on the fact that I got it cheap in a bundle. Game is very short and has teleporting with a fading out effect - don't like this actually. At least the teleporting coudl have been better. You visit around 4 to 5 mars locations where you steer a remote mars mobile, repair some mars technics and look into the horizon to enjoy a mars sunbreak. Since Mars is red, there are not a lot of different designs. I liked the educational part of the game, where you see the scale of Mars in comparison to the Earth. I did not like that I had a helmet on with an even smaller FOV than my already small FOV of the Vive... why??? I would not recommend the game to buy for the price tag, but if you get it in a cheap bundle, it is definitely worth the 15 minutes of your VR playtime. Therefore recommended when on sale for 2-3 EUR. Great VR experience for space and science geeks. Seeing the Mars probes and rovers standing right in front of you gives you a whole new perspective on these great human accomplishments, something no photograph or documentary could ever convey. It's not for everyone, there is no real gameplay and the few tasks are quite mundane.
This has the potential of being a good educational interactive experience for 6-14 year olds but not much more. It has a lot of bugs and is boring in its current state. The textures are very low-res compared to all of the imagery that is available from NASA. The rocks look like they are made from styrofoam. The teleporting is slow and not always accurate. The landers and hologram of mount olympus were decent. Driving the rover with the dust storm was the best part of the experience, until the dust storm dissapeared.
It might not be much in 2023, but I admit I learned something. Seeing the historical Mars probes "in person" puts things into perspective, like how adorably small Opportunity really is. I want to pet it now, or at least restore it to working order, like in the game. If you're into the history of Mars exploration, this is a fun little distraction - but not much more. The interactivity is minimal and the voice acting feels robotic, even if it's supposed to be a robot talking to you. The value here is taking a closer look at Mars rovers. If that's your thing, then you'll like this. If not, then there's absolutely nothing here for you.
I bought this game because of my intrests in astronomy. It met some of my expectations but there are few things that could be improved. I like the game mechanics but it feels like a game made for children. There is no proper excitment. The most fun part about it was (spoilers) driving the tiny rover. It ended too quickly for me but I like the fact that you can travel to previous visited places. I don't think it's fully ready yet so I will not recommend this. I'm sorry to say this, but it does have some potential. I'm gonna keep it for the time being and let's see where this goes.
