It's Festival Time! :D

Introduction
Marron's Day is a cozy, cute adventure and exploration game developed by npckc and published by RAWRLAB Games and npckc. You're Marron, a sweet, cute young bunny living in a small town and excited for the upcoming town festival. However, Marron learns that Donut, the mayor, is going to cancel the festival because not enough people signed up to run stalls. Thus, after going to Donut, Marron takes it upon themselves to make the festival a reality by getting enough people in town and nearby to sign up. Can Marron complete her quest? With the gameplay, the controls are fairly simple. You can use either the keyboard or controller to move Marron around. (Although it is recommended to use the controller, I used the keyboard for review purposes.) Arrow keys are used to move Marron around, the S key is to confirm an action, and the D key is to cancel it. There is a manual to explain the gameplay functions as well. The objective is to have Marron talk to the many animal townsfolk and convince them to run a stall. The townsfolk will usually have a task that Marron must complete before they'll agree to run a stall. These tasks can include mini-games that range from catching fish to defeating others in battle eraser (a more complicated form of rock-paper-scissors). There's a varied soundtrack in which tracks are unlocked as Marron gets access to other areas in the game or by playing mini-games. CGs and Steam achievements are unlocked as well although the latter won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited".
Review
Ever since I played the developer's first game, A Year of Springs, I've been a fan, so when I learned about Marron's Day, I knew that I wanted to play it. Thankfully, the developer was very kind to send a review copy. ^^ The story was very cute and sweet. I like Marron as the main character. Marron is mischievous, as is evidenced when one of the neighbors accuses Marron of stealing his carrots, but you know that they're a good, kind bunny. This is obvious when Marron happily agrees to help Donut get enough stalls to make the festival a reality. Marron just loves festivals and wants everyone to be happy and to have fun. Also, I enjoyed seeing how Marron interacts with the other animal townsfolk. They do their best to help others with their tasks, and I like how the story touches upon a few relationships, pointing out that it's ok not to have romantic feelings and whatnot. Of course, I love how the story wraps up, with the festival becoming a reality, and there's even a sweet prologue that you can play after you complete the main story. With the gameplay, I found it pretty easy to understand. Moving Marron around and clicking on action keys was doable. The only difficulty I found at times was with a couple of mini-games. There's one in which you have to move boxes in an upstairs room to get access to a certain item, and other items are in fixed positions. (However, you can always look up playthroughs to get past this.) Also, I found battle eraser to be a bit challenging. Even though I understood the basic mechanics, it is partially RNG-based, so if you get extremely unlucky, it can take a while to defeat opponents. However, I was able to obtain all of the achievements without too much difficulty. A couple may simply take time, such as the one for finding 64 dandelions. Even after you complete the main story, though, you can continue your file, so if you miss out on any achievements during the main story, you can obtain them in post-game. As for the art, it has this retro, pixel graphics style that I absolutely adore. It reminds me of games from a certain era when 2-D graphics and challenging gameplay (at times) were more of the norm. Even the colors have that retro feel, having that neon-colored vibe. Also, the character sprites are very adorable. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3425250778 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3425250998 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3425251362 Regarding the music, the tracks, like the art, have that retro feel to them. They're quite fun and whimsical to listen to, and there's a good variety of them. In addition, they feel very light-hearted and happy. If there's one issue I have, it has more to do with the inability to adjust the music volume from within the game itself. I tend to keep my computer volume pretty low, but the game's music still felt a bit loud to me.
Conclusion
Would I recommend Marron's Day? If you're a fan of cozy, cute games, you enjoy games from back when they were pixelated, and/or you want to get those Steam achievements, this is definitely worth checking out. Marron's Day brought a smile to my face, especially seeing those cute animal townsfolk, the theme of helping others out of genuine kindness, and the idea of accepting others as they are without any bias or prejudice. For the asking price, it might be a bit on the pricey side, as it took me a little over 5.5 hours to complete the game and obtain all of the achievements. However, you can wait for a sale, and it's in a Steam bundle, so you should totally get it when you can. Finally, I want to give a major thank you for npckc and RAWRLAB Games for the review copy. I had so much fun playing this game, and I hope that others will have a chance to try it out. ^^
For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^
I spent hours with the demo version of this game on Itch, and I am thrilled to see the full version release here. Marron's Day is an adventure game in the style of 1980s or 1990s RPGs, but without the combat. It's about a cute bunny who is disappointed that their town's festival is cancelled because no one signed up for stalls, so you run around town convincing everynyan to sign up to save the festival. The game plays sort of like a 1990s JRPG, but without combat, and everything takes place in one town. There's a lot of story and puzzle-solving. The game has a lot of incidental queerness. Many (all?) of the creatures in town are queer, but their queerness is never the focus of the story: it's just noted without anyone making a big deal about it. My favorite are a pair of AroAce best friends who live together. After completing the main story, you unlock the "prologue," another story called Marron Helps a Friend, which was originyally released as a separate game. The prologue deals more explicitly with themes of queerness. The whole game took me about four hours to complete, including all achievements and the prologue. It was well worth the time.
A cute and simple game where you help out your fellow villagers. It's a warm blanket with a cup of tea type of game. Don't get this for gameplay, get this for a comfy feeling.
ゲームボーイ時代を彷彿とさせる、ほのぼのアドベンチャーゲーム。 ドット絵だけでなくサウンドの再現度もとても高く、ノスタルジックな気分に浸りたいゲーマーにお勧めです。
A very cute and very charming little game that made me feel joyous. It does, however, have a really boring/slightly bad fishing minigame that I tolerated but did not enjoy too much. Most of the other side objectives were enjoyable or could be cheesed (pro tip: enter/exit/re-enter the train station area repeatedly if you want to grind for dandelions). There are many small quirks that somewhat weakened the experience but overall I was really engrossed during my whole playthrough and felt engaged with the world and its characters. :) My play time as I post this review is time spent for 100% completion. I played the game on Steam Deck and it mostly ran without issues. Some minor audio glitches which may be the game's fault or faulty hardware, I'd have to test. The game did also make scary loud noises at me when attempting to load the prologue (no soft-lock though, it corrected itself), and I suspect that's an issue with the ROM, but who knows.
Marron's Day is a delightful little GameBoy game that has the good taste of running on PC as well. You get the GameBoy version with your Steam purchase as well, I think. At the time of this review, I'm not done with my playthrough because I lost patience with one of the main quests. I'm hoping to get back to the game and finish it later, as I really liked the writing, the colour palette, and overall vibes of the game. I recommend it if you're looking for a fun little way to spend your afternoon, especially if you enjoy GameBoy games. The characters are all kind to each other, even when they're angry, which I appreciate.
A sweet and cozy GameBoy adventure about a bunny helping their friends run the town's festival again!
Marron's Day is an adorable, GameBoy styled title, that follows Marron's quest to restore the town's festival. Throughout the day, they'll have to convince and help their friends in order to get the event running! It's nice, short, sweet, fun... has it all really!! The game wasn't just made to ressemble GBC graphics however: This game RUNS on a GameBoy! Isn't that awesome? Throughout the day you will have to fulfill the townsfolks requests so they can run their stands at the festival: find interesting rocks, collect strange fish, help a friend overcome their social anxiety, or try out some new seeds for a friend; amongst many other activities. It has a wonderful cozy vibe, just talk with your neighbours, help them out, do some fun side activities... gave me Animal Crossing vibes* (haven't played much Animal Crossing so I may be completely wrong there). The GB aesthetics and music also gave it a Pokémon hint to it all (despite there being no monster catching mechanics). It's just a nice, relaxing, and kind of nostalgic adventure... The ending is really sweet too! Well, it's a shame you need to replay the festival 4 times to check all the stands, but it's super cute, and really worth it, since they all add little details and side activities to the town! In my headcannon, Marron was invited to try all the stands out, even after they ran out of coins. And speaking of the festival, let's just say there are some amazing easter eggs there and I absolutely loved all the ones I got: very rewarding for npckc fans! Further more, there is also a really well hidden area in the game that is super rewarding to find (and hides some extra content if you go after 100% completion). It made me feel like a child again for a second, finding such well hidden area that is only hinted at you by one character. Finally, we have the prologue: A small story set on the day before the main game's events. Your friend Mugi lost his bouquet, which means he can't go to the dance festival! Now it's up to Marron to save the day once more and find the missing flowers. It's basically, a byte sized version of this byte sized game (so much so, that you can't even save). It's very fun and the ending is super super sweet! Not much else to say other than that: It's just a little bit more of the cutessy world of Marron. No npckc could be without any sort of LGBTQ+ represantation... okay not all their games have it, but it's almost a staple really. In Marron's Day's case, it's quite subtle: Some neighbour may be arromantic, asexual, (or both), others may prefer they/them pronouns, and well... you know, one of the easter eggs in the festival. I'm not completely sure if there are openly gay relationships since usually the gender of the neighbours is not specified, but either way, what I mean is: npckc fans, you will feel at home here too~ I think it's fair to say, that I quite recommend this game. It's great! Nice, cute, relaxing... very very sweet. At first I thought the price was a little high, and I still think it is a bit, but despite that, I highly recommend it! And thanks a lot V3LTA for the gift! ❤️
